Ya.... backpack full of ammo rattling around, gun clanking, another in your hand and wanting to be a ninja...

You should avoid the reflex to just say things..

of course a soldier in full gear can walk quietly, or he can just walk, or he can jog.

Of course he can ghost walk, he will not be as quiet as if he did the same thing with out a full pack and gear, but more quiet then if he normal walked in the same equipment.

And walking slowly is way different then crouching and walking.

Or jump down 5 feet with the pack on. Or whirl around to shoulder a rifle (balancing is a bitch). Hell, I want them to walk carrying such a load. While hiking, I stop every 20 minutes for a 5 minute, pack-on break. Every hour, I stop for at least 20 minutes, take off my pack and boots, and usually change my socks.

Why haven't socks made their way into this game yet? I could only imagine what the footwear we're using is doing to our feet. Hell, I used to even pass up on many of the options because I knew the hell they were going to bring down on my feet.

All in all, socks should be in this game.

Well considering we all know how to hunt, clean and prepare wild game.  We can not only operate but maintain every weapon in the world, have great first add skills (how many of you can stitch up a knife wound, let alone remove a bullet or set a broken leg).  So yeah, a few years into a zombie apocalypse I would imagine those still around are there because they aren't ordinary citizens.

These noisy things can be packed in such a way that they don't rattle. I am not trained in anything and even i can imagine how to start doing this. Packed tight, and using internal/external pouches, elastic bands(Easily scavenged), careful arrangement. I'm sure someone in the special forces could explain it better then I.

All I'm saying is that our packs shouldn't effect or sound level unless there's a way around it other then running light weight.

As for stamina and running i completely agree. Weight should impact our travel times. I expect it will, someday.

LOL special forces.....

I can tell you first hand that backpacks do not rattle around even when you're wearing webbing with ammo and all other kinds of crap in your bergen/whatever. For a start, most of your shit is so tightly packed - you're squeezing as much as you can into these things because you have limited space and too much gear you want to take. You have to understand that when you're going out in the field, you pack in there as much shit as possible because once you're gone, you can't go back and fetch it.

The other thing is we're not running around at a full sprint with backpacks. DayZ is ridiculous in this regards. I've worn all the shit you get in days, the fatigues, webbing, backpacks, ammo, rifle, respirator, canteen, etc and it's a big "fuck you" to anyone that asks you to sprint wearing all that shit.

Speed is a factor as well. The faster you move, the more sound you make and the more people you have with you, the more sound you make. Think of one person walking along the sidewalk and then a platoon marching down it - you can hear them coming from miles away.

DayZ should employ Splinter Cell movement. They really executed that well and they should limit movement speed with heavy loads. You don't see hikers or military running everywhere for a reason. Number one being you don't want to break an ankle.
