hzd 0 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) Well, i finally got around to trying this game out for the mere £20 it cost me.First up its clearly a great idea, but after trying for a few hours of play i see the biggest flaw from the off that totally kills the game for anyone whos been on the server from the start or joins afew hours after a restart.1. If you join in and the servers been running a while spawn areas just have no useful items left2. If you die a few hours in and have all your stuff again, you now have no good items to get going on.3. you can spawn next to a zombie, regardless of killing it your likley die anyway from loss of blood because you've spawned into any of the situations noted above.4. You can spawn in the middle of nowhere run for ages to get to a village town just to be shot at or killed by a zombie before you can get to any useful items. These 4 things alone kill the game dead for me, its frustrating to the point where you go fuck it alt-f4 and the funny old middle finger happens ( yes very witty ), but its not funny it just makes you more likley to task manager out and do something else or ask for a refund because even the basic principle of the game in its current state is flawed from the get go.now past this i also find some pretty bad things that should be sorted out long before messing about with weapons and early access stuff ( including the issues stated above )1. Zombies can pass through doors and floors.2. You can't smoothly navigate anywhere because you collide with overly large collision boxes everywhere and including buildings internals.I know it says alpha but there is a massive case of sloppy design structure here. . . . . I build software myself all be it not games but you build the basic mechanic first and you make it modular so you can apply it to any instance if needs be.This is currently a collection of ideas rushed out to get £20 and arranged in some sloppy order to make it feel like you've purchased something worth trying.Add things like :IF the player is to spawn ensure there are no zombies within LOS of the zombie AI code.IF the player is spawning ensure they are in a decent area that is in the middle ground of useful but also potentially dangerous.IF a new player Spawns scatter a few useful items in that area, like some water or a form of clothing to use as rags e.c.t don't make it easy but don't drop someone in an absurdly odds stacked against them situation. It really is not even at an Alpha stage its in a dream stage and needs some planning of stages getting basic functionality sorted.Worth the £20 because of what it will become but for many it will feel like they just got drunk dug a hole in their back yard and burried £20, woke up knowing they somehow lost £20. Also the lack of zombies ?! I mean I can count on my two hands how many zombies i found on my first 2 trys, zombie apocolypse more like slight sprinkling of zombie Edited November 10, 2014 by hzd
sachad 1016 Posted November 10, 2014 A lot of the issues you mentioned aren't really issues to me, but challenges. Spawning next to a zombie sucks, but it's not a guaranteed death sentence. Neither is not finding loot or food within 100 yards of spawning. Chernarus is not a fun place to be. Sometimes, you're gonna die and there's nothing you can do about it. As for lack of zombies, I think that's a good thing right now. If you take into account the amount of bitching going on about zombies already, imagine the shitstorm if they multiplied their numbers. And lastly, I'd advise against saying things like "they should fix zombies before adding new stuff", because that's exactly the kind of argument that needs to be disproven over and over ad nauseam because people don't realize that that is not how game development works.

The thing about survival is, it isn't easy. You have to know how to provide food and water for yourself. You can't just cling to the remnants of civilization and expect canned goods to spawn and last forever. You will need to forage. You will need to gather and hunt. You will need to farm. Kirby12352 67 Posted November 10, 2014 Finding military gear is already extremely easy. Same with food and other supplies. I doubt in a real life zombie apocalypse I'd start with next to nothing and then suddenly be completely decked out on military gear with enough food and water to last me weeks without even going into a town for more supplies. I don't think loot being "too hard" to get is really an issue. The zombies running through floors will be fixed with time. Spawning next to zombies just makes the game a bit more challenging IMO. And in a real life situation, you wouldn't normally be able to get from town to town on foot so quickly. And that will become even easier when they add the first vehicle in the near future. wooly-back-jack 294 Posted November 10, 2014 1. If you join in and the servers been running a while spawn areas just have no useful items left my best advice for this,( if you don't want to take a risk and run to a city to gear up and risk being killed) is to simply run inland with the ocean behind you, keep running and look for secluded huts (you see some in the woods, like raised chicken houses with a plank leading upto them) or look for just a couple of houses on their own with a couple of sheds, these places are often overlooked the further inland you get and are quite good for getting the basics and maybe a nice surprise loot. s1rGr1nG0 81 Posted November 10, 2014 It's alpha, bro. Run inland. We've all heard these some complaints countless times before.

You spawn and get killed by a zombie, well shucks, just respawns and keep playing. Did you think it was supposed to be easy?
