How do you interact with others in this game?

DayZ, how do you interact with others? How do they interact with you?

  1. 1. How do YOU interact with OTHERS?

    • I am a survivor, and do what I need to do to survive. If I need food, I'll rob someone, and if I have too much, I'll help others.
    • I am a bandit, I kill fresh spawns, and rob people.
    • I am a hero, I kill bandits, and give food, clothes, and weapons to those in need.
  2. 2. How do others interact with YOU?

    • I am told to put my hands up, or just killed on sight, most of the time.
    • I am asked if friendly, most of the time.
    • People tell me to "back off", most of the time.
  3. 3. How do you WISH people would interact with you?

    • I want it to be random every time.
    • I want to run into JUST bandits.
    • I want to run into JUST heroes
    • I don't want to run into anyone.

I'm beginning to notice that most of the people I run into aren't as aggressive if I spot them first, but if they see me I usually end up being shot at or dead if they have weapons. If they don't they, try and open up conversation. I've met maybe 3 or 4 genuinely friendly people, hung out with them for a few minutes, and parted ways. But most of the time, I'm preparing myself to spawn back on the coast because chances are pretty high that I will.

For me most of the time I have had random interactions with other random players is when me and the people I was talking to were not armed. They were norm just quick conversations. Only once did I ever make freinds with random armed players. They asked me to come out with my hands up, I refused. Then they told me they were freindly and ment no harm and put away there guns. I ended playing with them for about an hour lol loged into to there TS. But these are expections, I would say about 80% of the time its hostile. Its to the point that I am surprised that when players are freindly. There for I have a vary short fuze when it comes to dealing with random players....vary. Keep the gun put away! To me thats body language that says more then any voice prox. It tells me your looking to shoot someone. Normally I won't say a word, I just start shooting or fleeing. Or if your wearing a one of those dumb ass payday masks....your telling me your out to rob....I will shot on the spot, gun out or no gun out. Call me what you want, I call it playing safe LOL I'm like one of those crazy paraniod guys that lives in the woods when I play dayz....Im vary nice in real life though :D

The thing is if you have your gun put away...and I see you and you don't see me...I'll let you be. So that should be a lesson for people on here. When you got your gun out your sending a signal...your looking looking too shoot. If your clearly dressed like a "Bandit" thats sending players a signal too.

your poll is flawed as there is no option for "I avoid everyone as if they were the plague" and "people tend to not see me as I make a point to avoid them" or "if people see me its usually my backside while I'm making for the north woods". some of us don't require any interaction to enjoy the game. I live by the notion that I don't need your stuff, I don't need your help, and I prefer to not have your company. I have been known to shoot the occasional passerby at range to keep my skills up however.

Me neither. Its because we both know we prob will not live through it, even if we do we know we be allot worse off then before the robery. Its not like real life. Your better off putting up a fight or trying to flee.

There's also weird sadistic players who capture poeple and force feed them, caddle prod them ect ect. Fuck all that shit LOL Weirdo players LOL

I rather just get a dam respawn!

Regardless though I have the mind set that I am a wolf anyways. No one has tried any of that crap for some time now.

Just sayin' Bandit /= KoS (killing fresh spawns). KoS is a separate thing of its own most the time, as you're not usually looted. Bandits have gear in mind. However, I respect both playstyles. (but one is just better than the other. :P)

Usually people who act friendly are unarmed. Most of the time if someone has a gun and I don't, or a better melee weapon than me, I end up shot or with an axe to the head. Either that or I find a group of armed players who handcuff me and derp around for a few minutes, and then I end up shot. I have a tendency to be friendly, and that usually ends up with me being shot. I prefer not to KOS though, cause the best encounters with people that I've had are when they're friendly. Those people make the game better, although I don't mind bandits because the game wouldn't be as fun without them. But I still kill them lol.

I am a ruthless survivor with few moral lines left to cross. If need something I will use any means I deem necessary to get it, be it crossing the whole map, or putting a bullet in someone's head because they have it. If I find you a danger to myself, because you are armed or get to close I will kill you. If I ran into a fresh spawn I will not kill him unprovoked, I might even help him on a good day.

Mainly my interactions are: shotgun to the face. Not-so-metaphorically speaking, of course.
I feel bad any time I do it but, seriously, the amount of stupidly aggressive behaviour on the servers is staggering, even on the (marginally) more friendly experimental ones. Either half of the people are playing with sound muted, don’t understand universal English words or are not aware that their actions can easily be classified as aggressive even if they mean no harm. Some examples of “interactions” happened to me in the past days:

“Stay back, keep your distance”
“Hey hello!” *runs closer”
“Back off” *keep distance*
“Man hey listen” *runs closer*
BLAM

Or

“Don’t pick up your weapon, and stay still” *pointing gun at suspicious sneaky player*
“Hey listen I want to trade” *unshoulder weapon*
BLAM

Or

“Stay back, keep your distance”
“I’m unarmed, I just spawned” *runs closer*
“Back off” *keep distance*
“I’m friendly wait!” *runs closer*
BLAM

WTF, if I’m pointing a gun at you and I’m saying don’t come any closer…don’t come closer. It’s simple. I don’t care if you want to play DayZ: Hugs of The Carebears, don’t act suspiciously or people will kill you. Nonverbal communication, general behaviour and many other things are “communication/interactions” too, you know. Even on DayZ.

Example? Assault rifles. If you take time and resources to pick up an assault rifle it means you're going to proactively seek confrontation. That means you're communicating you're a threat. That means other players will communicate with bullets and/or melee weapons with you.

THIS !!

Something we see in all those be friendly say no to KoS videos. People run up to you, too close and expect you to take all the risk that comes with that. Than they go on about how is this unrealistic. If you did that shit in real life when society collapses best case scenario you get stock to the face and wake up robbed. Worst case scenario "Yeah, spider just caught a couple of flies."

Well i usually try not to KOS.

But this is risky play style especially if you walk into someone who also has his gun drawn.

(maybe he did it for the same reasons like me "just a warning to not come too close" but you never know....

Waiting too long can get you killed real fast.

No need to be in a post-apocalyptic scenario. Try running, all of a sudden, very close to a stranger and see what happens: if he's polite you'll be shooed off very angrily. If he's not...hope you have a strong jaw, because probably something will connect with your face.

People in real life react to a various amount of stimuli: yelling "hey I'm friendly" to someone while you run into their personal space is perceived as an aggressive behaviour - regardless of what you're verbally saying. Going around dressed in full camo with your face covered is perceived as a suspect behaviour: certain clothes are associated to certain (unpleasant) things and if, on top of that, you cover your face too you’re just screaming for a defensive reaction – even if you’re not acting suspiciously or aggressively. Displaying certain items also tell something, even if you don’t intend to convey that message: I’ve been in certain countries where showing recognizably American or British clothes were “highly discouraged” regardless of the wearer’s true nationality.

I admire all the people who want a decrease in violence in DayZ, and I respect the efforts of many community members…but seriously, first learn how to behave properly in a dangerous environment (real life experiences in this field helps in DayZ too). Then, when you’re not unknowingly acting aggressively or suspiciously, feel free to moan about being killed for “no reason” and demand “more cooperation and less violence”.

Just my two cents

I believe its more interesting for people with native English as its easier to communicate. Theres this barrier for people whos english is not their first language, they're mostly shy speaking english or barely know it. I think this type of people might shoot on sight more often. Thats why I mostly avoid people to lower the risk of loosing my character.

One of the reason for that is english speakers, especially brits are often pricks about it. Making fun of people saying things wrong.
