One moisin shot to body kill?

Recommended Posts

Assuming max health, prisitine camo clothes, assault vest and helmet is it possible to one shot kill someone in the body area with a moisin? Not whining or anything but I was killed in Cherno the other night with such a character and I heard the shot and immediately died. I've been headshotted before and you dont hear the shot that got you. I'm just curious because I was a bit surprised at the instant death after hearing one moisin shot.

I can't complain 'cause I was looking for trouble; fully camo'd, gorka helmet w/visor and openly carrying an AK-101 with a gigaton of 5.56 that I found at a choppa. I just got careless and attributed a suspect zombie aggro to myself and paid the price. Hope my killer got some use of the grenade I had. I was looking forward to lobbing that bad boy.

Yes it's entirely possible to kill someone with one shot. There are many factors that could be involved in the death and here is one of them just in case you didn't already know.

How long had your character survived before being one shot killed?

A week or so, with 'healthy' status and completely pristine clothing.

Had you at any point taken any damage from a zombie or another player?

Yes to both. I emerged victorious in some earlier PvP but not unscathed, as well as the odd zombie punch but as I said I had fully healed between then and the Cherno incident and had the green 'healthy' status. So are you saying there is undocumented bone damage that is responsible?

I am willing to bet that your bone health stat had been weakened enough that one shot from a mosin finished you off. Being healthy or the condition of your clothing/gear have no effect on the bone stat. Watch the video I linked in my first reply if you are un-aware of what I am talking about.

It happens. Win some, lose some.

Good info, thanks. On the work computer atm, so I'll watch that vid later.

'win some, lose some'

indeed, I'm not bitter. Was just curious on the possible explanation

That's my best guess.

I have finished players with one Mosin shot before. Others took a few to drop. I am speculating that bone health plays a big factor, especially on characters that have survived for a while and seen some action.

Check the vid out when you can. It's definitely good info from a trusted source.

Cheers

Was your helmet pristine, it could have been a headshot, some times you do hear them depending how far the guy was etc.

Just watched that video and seems more likely the cause.

I heard a confirmed headshot one once when i didn't communicate properly and a buddy killed me.

A single shot to the chest can certainly drop you to unconsciousness. Though Prostine vests seem to be able to prevent it.

Im not sure but I think a heart shot is a one shot kill to players. Or a head shot is for sure.

Why are you so sure he didnt hit you in the head? The audio in this game is anything but consistent.

I had a pristine Gorka helmet with visor, though i suppose a 7.62 would drive a hole right thru any helmet. I had assumed body shot as I clearly heard it, I wasn't aware that you could hear the shot if headshotted. Isn't that physically impossible unless you are using subsonic ammo? Does sound propagate realistically in DayZ? Sound travels 343 m/s and a Mosin round travels at around 800 m/s so if I was headshotted it would seem not.

This happens, and to be honest; I've seen lesser ammunition bring down moose. The 7.62x54mmR (51mm in the game for some reason) is typically known as the chiropractors dream for a reason

This is bollocks, as is the 54 hits to die from a zombie. The point of the game is to survive, this mechanic is not a good thing.

I think that the high cap vest and the gurka helmet WITH visor are the best in protection. They can take atleast one shot. I know for a fact the gorka helmet with a visor can take a direct shot, same with the high cap vest. The assualt vest....mehh.....maaaaybe....your gambling on that one lol

My advice is if your sniping with the mosin and the player your trying to shot is well geared with helmet and say a high cap vest. Go for the legs. Then finish them off with a few more shots. Unless there out in the open and have no where to hide. The reason because it sometimes take a few shots to kill a geared player. By hitting there legs it slows them down a great deal, at least long enough for you to finish them. Its hard for them to move. Even if they have a morphine, they will have to go through an animation to use it. All this gives you time to preform the finishing shot or shots.

Now if a player is not well geared, say he running around with a down jacket and civ back pack. No real head protection. You can down them with one shot, if it is placed right.

But using the mosin has become harder in recent patches. Sway and breathing play a huge role. Longer range shots are harder now. So its not always easy to get these well placed shots. I'll be the 1st one to confess that. After about 500 or 600 meters, you really have to be on it with timing. Your avatar must be healthy. You got to have your range set, and breath. Sometimes my mosin becomes more of a supressive fire type weapon at really long ranges. Its like rolling the dice if I get a hit or not. If I don't, it will cause the player I'm shooting at to seek cover and rethink what he or she is doing. Which is not a bad thing. They almost never come looking for me, I think it makes them panic lol Back a few patches ago the mosin was just deadly, it was easy to shot people at really long ranges with it, up to 800 meteres. Now its much harder, it is possible though.

Now don't forget DayZ is not 100% realistic, not even close. So maybe a 7.62 would go through these items in RL, but in game it takes a few shots. I try not to hold DayZ SA to, too much of a realism standard due to this. Instead I study the mechanics of the game it self. I use real world tactics when they apply.

Hi, I am Paxom, and I am sick of it for the last week, very weak, high temp fever, sore sand throat, heavy coughing, itchy eyes tears, poor vision and thinking, red huge irritated nose, nonstop snot and sweat, heavy headache, all shit.

I am not bleeding yet. I think I didn't drink any blood recently, may be bitten by some mosquito, but dunno.

On OP: 0.50 stable didn't happened today, so 0.49 stable still actual.

For the sound of it, jukaga was killed one shot due down of his Hit Points, not any spinal fracture or anything.

There are no any spinal bone fracture variables in 0.49 stable DayZ game code.

And Hit Points variables are everywhere in .49st, where any type of physical damage present, in every event, handler, modifier, etc., in persistent block, its very pervasive.

Hit Points main thread with great deal of details on messages and correspondent Hit Points values

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/213065-sudden-instant-death-and-player-hit-points/

2Jexter: its not a qq its good or bad mechanic, and what devs should or not, do about it. Its here.

All players, like jukaga and re-patch, must be aware about Hit Points, so they may make informed decisions how to stay alive for some time.

PM me if you have any further detailed questions on whats what.

Most weapons in Dayz one shot to the chest regardless of health, bear in mind the assault vest isn't ballistic its just webbing for carrying ammo etc.

If bone health is an actual factor  in survival there needs to be some sort of measuremnt on screen in game.  If not this hidden stat should be removed.  Heck all it really needs to say is my back is sore or something along those lines. Also should have a way to heal this too. Maybe that is something they are working on in the future.
