brazorf 46 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Do different clothes affect body temperature in different ways? I mean a coat will be warmer then a shirt or they're all the same as of now?Do we have some reference on this? Edited October 14, 2014 by brazorf
yeinzy 5 Posted October 14, 2014 yes if you have a jacket you be warmer and if you run around in lighter clothes you will be colder depends on the weather

OrganGrinder 89 Posted October 14, 2014 it's kind of random and nonsensical right now. and depends what server you're on. I don't believe the warmth factor of clothes is random, rather the servers seem to offer a variable to the calculation. I am curious if anyone knows how servers have this variability? I didn't think admins had the ability to configure a setting at this level... if not then where does the variability in ambient temperature come from? If you get wet, you die.I'm guessing this is sarcasm, but even still, no, just no. I've gotten warm without a down jacket, I've survived getting soaked, you just need to put forth a tiny bit of effort into survival.
ebrim 998 Posted October 14, 2014 Server configuration recognizes time of year (you can either set it or use real time). And it simulates weather conditions (wind, temperature) according cut of the map from the world. This information here. So, various servers will have different base ambient temperatures based upon what time of year the server thinks or is told it is. This base temperature is then modified by things like elevation, wind and presence of rain. Just it being rainy makes it colder, whether you're wet or not, however if you are wet the degree of warmth your clothing gives you is drastically reduced (if not eliminated entirely). Each piece of clothing has a "warmth" value associated with it, wool coats are warmer than t-shirts, down jackets seem warmer than basically anything (as they should be). Some servers in stable seem to be set to much colder parts of the year than others. In experimental right now all servers are set to "September", so staying warm isn't very difficult though a couple weeks ago it was set to December which lead to mass death and pitiful screams of unplayability. :D
Paxom (DayZ) 30 Posted October 14, 2014 Do different clothes affect body temperature in different ways?Yes.I can not give you exact numbers, but in short: Running, sprinting, all clothes you currently wear, wetness, body temperature, air temperature, wind speed, map elevation - all seems have noticeable effect for warming/cooling/hypothermia and body temperature.Rain however does not, it affects your wetness, and not affect you directly. OrganGrinder 89 Posted October 15, 2014 Ebrim - thanks. That explains a lot (assuming it is accurate). prolly explains why I died the only time from cold the first day after 0.49 came out... someone had it cranked to Christmas time of year.
gianni001 37 Posted October 15, 2014 I wish this game would do away with the silly no UI shit and just give us a temperature icon, food , water, energy icons. Clean, small and effective. nope, we have.."I feel this" "I feel that" The mod had indicators, noone complained, they were good.
R0B3RTF1SH3R 66 Posted October 15, 2014 it's kind of random and nonsensical right now. and depends what server you're on.exactly.usually keep all my gear "gorka or waterproofs" in a worn state wth sewing kits.constantly getting cold on one server. have to drop fireplace every 5 mins cause im freezing.join another server and your "i am slowly cooling off" "i am slowly warming up" all day. server temperature? time of day? seasons? Paxom (DayZ) 30 Posted October 15, 2014 Find a jacket and an axe for firewood and you're all set...However, some servers are warmer than others and you won't need the fire and such.Axe degrades very fast when you chop wood.So I ended up with 2 axes, stone, matches, and a book. brazorf 46 Posted October 15, 2014 If your jacket is ruined than you will start to cool off. This, and other info above, are what i'm searching for. There should be something that make clothes comparable in terms of warmth. Do we have access to any comparison table or should we infer data from our experience? Ramblin Hans 118 Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) I'm guessing this is sarcasm, but even still, no, just no. I've gotten warm without a down jacket, I've survived getting soaked, you just need to put forth a tiny bit of effort into survival. But yet sadly it is mostly the truth. I've put a decent amount of hours in on this patch, and can honestly say the only thing that warms me up is a down jacket in at least worn condition. Even pristine wool coats = cooling off, though the pristine gorka I have now seems to keep me above freezing but in the "cold" zone and constantly "cooling off". Now, I don't bounce around a lot of servers, and tend to play on only three or four - so it is possible that this isn't the case on all servers given some of the responses here. Yea, the sarcasm was mostly in the wet=die part. If you can get a fire started outside, you can get warmed up. But I have frozen twice because no fire could be started outside (literally impossible in the rain), doesn't work inside, and under rain shelters like outdoor overhead garages apparently counts as "indoors". Super frustrating to be wearing warm clothes, sitting mainly inside a building wringing out clothes and/or switching to dry ones, and slowly dying for a half hour plus scrambling around trying to make a fire. I think the new system is awesome and love it, it just needs some tweaks. For starters, you should be able to get a fire started in the rain (maybe need a wind shield, more wood, under an overhang, 10x the amount of matches, or whatever). I also wish personally they'd rework the clothes system a bit so you can layer - treat jackets like they do vests now. You can wear a shirt (tac, long sleeve, checked, tshirt, etc) and then a jacket layer (rider jacket, down jacket, military, vest, etc). This would allow for more layering options if you want to go for survival vs. the straight forward "most pockets" / "military > all" method. A nice flannel shirt + rain jacket SHOULD be a decently warm, good rain protection option! Edited October 15, 2014 by Ramblin Hans

Finchtastic 50 Posted October 15, 2014 I've never had a problem with clothing being ruined...If it keeps you warm and gets ruined, you'll still be fine until you find a new one....Or at least that's MY experience.
hombrecz 832 Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) Axe degrades very fast when you chop wood.So I ended up with 2 axes, stone, matches, and a book. Eats lotsa space, or I am dead in 15 min. Splitting axe does not degrate that fast. Fireman axe is another story though. Also it should be possible (exp server) to split (pickaxe?) stone into small stone, which takes only 1 invetory space.I hope you can sharpen the axe with the small one as well. Anyway looking for incoming exp patch. Maybe we get lockpicks now and can lock/unlock the doors.I hope that doors can be destroyed with melee weapons as well. Imagine get trapped inside a building on private shard server.Your character would be doomed to starvation.... Edited October 15, 2014 by Hombre

I am on stable, and did try split big stone, didn't work out.So it was either big stone, or death in 10-15 min. My choice was pretty obvious. Off: Also I am currently mostly involved in Hit Points research, regarding sudden instant death. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/213065-sudden-instant-death-and-player-hit-points/

OrganGrinder 89 Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) I couldn't decide how to use the thermometer, I was also concerned where it had been used last. I didn't have any alcohol to cleans it with so I left it alone. Ewww... Ha! You mean like an anal thermometer used on a pre-zed who was just presenting symptoms before things went to hell? What could go wrong? I've felt the same, technically speaking, about using damaged rags for binding wounds (though I use them because the game has no penalties for it). You know what could be worse then finding yourself in the midst of a zombie apocalypse alone? Why, having sepsis of course! As a side note, I'm guessing/hoping the devs will someday introduce a chance of getting ill (like sepsis) from using dirty (non-pristine) rags on wounds. Then maybe we won't throw away the antibiotics so readily when found. However, splints should be fine for dirty rag use thus making them still useful as is.
