The First Dayz DLC....

Recommended Posts

IMO it should be a new map, with new challenges. But which map, theres so many good community ones it would be hard to choose.

Taviana?

Namalask?

Celle?

I say no to all of the above. We need somewhere no one has ever set foot before. Somewhere that can recapture that sense of exploration and discovery for new players and vets alike.

With that said I present you with this....

Already a stunning map even though it has no towns or cities. Whats evenbetter is that is was made by the R man himself, so would be something they could use without any permission problems. Being an alpine map the cold would play a huge role in survival. Animals could be rare, wood always damp and hard to make fires with. The only thing that could be easier would be hydration, melting snow to drink could be the main source of water. To gain access to water from a lake you could need a tool to break through the surface ice.

Im sure theres 101 other ideas people could add for a terrain like this. When you think ahead to post release devs, please, think about this map :)

If we ever do get a second map, my vote goes to Namalsk.

That map was brilliant! The scenery, the cold, the snow covered mountains, the sound of wind around your ears.. It was perfect

Did ya check out the link, this one is very similar to Namalsk. I loved Namalsk for the new challenges, but for exploration it was too small. This one is a lot bigger I think, Maybe not in border size but with just one coastline (space for 2 Cherno sized Cities) there is a lot more landmass to explore :)

I don't like the idea of reusing any old maps from Arma 2, including "Alpine", which is far too barren to be good for DayZ.

If they're going to do a second map, I'd say add something we've never seen before, or at least a new area that isn't some former map re-designed. I could accept Takistan, but I'd really prefer they show off a new region instead of re-using the old map. They're most definitely not going to do maps like Namalsk, Celle, & Taviana, as they were all community made and done quite some time ago, unofficially. Maps like those will be ported through the inevitable plethora of mods that come once it's supported.

The idea of it being a DLC doesn't sound too appealing, either, and this has been explained by the devs as "dividing the community." I would not want to pay for a re-design of a map, and would be on the border for a brand new one.

I'd like to not think about DLC when it comes to DayZ, thank you.

Then don't, and leave others to discuss the possibility of new maps

None of this small map, can go anywhere in less than one hour bullshit. We need Altis. Its big enough that it would take an entire day to reach all the points of interests on foot and ground vehicles can't cover everywhere important without running out of gas at least once. You have more than three clumps of undeveloped land not used as a path to loot points to create player stashes and hide your vehicles. Trying to go to one big city or area on the other side of the map means bringing several supplies or risk dying of dehydration/starvation. Add some suspension bridges to the small island chains, bring in more buildings, remove or modify the future tech bullshit military buildings and you have a suitable dayz experience.

Yeah, but what about other people? Im all for large maps if there are 100+ player servers.

Even Chernarus is very large in relation to the ammount of players

As if it's confirmed that if there would be any DLC, it would be a new map.

I never said anything was confirmed, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it

I would love altis support.

Altis is imo the best map in any arma game to date. It has beautiful scenery and a pretty diverse set of biomes but most importantly it has a landscape that is very very friendly towards taking and holding territory something I see as a big thing in the dayz end game.

I agree, but only if they implement much higher player numbers per server.

The only downside with Altis is that its so big that you could run around for hours without finding anyone.

Expanding Chernarus plus to cover ALL of Chernarus would be nice, and provide a map in which vehicles are essential not just a luxury. Of course you'd need at least 80 player servers for it to be good.

I think they should have dlc pack for like a south american style with jungle/rain forest and cities, villages, shanty towns,tribes-mans huts etc....It would give another whole another style of play in the aspect of survival conditions and environment hazards(different animals, reptiles, hazardous plants, Bugs/Insects,maybe flooding in lowland areas and/or mudslides?, etc...). Not to mention a diverse item system opportunity it would provide. It would completely change the game play and the way players would think and approach it. Due to be completely adverse to the environment(s) their accustomed to.

Yes, it would take awhile to program and make,But it would be worth it think of the possibilities and the whole new atmosphere.

You could incorporate a Yeti into that map or wait what about an undead yeti? That would be essentially stronger then a regular zed. It would fit the Landscape...Animals like Mt. goats..etc...

both are good things imo.

The other bonus is that Atlis is an island so coastal spawns all around would ensure random encounters and far more randomized gameplay

If they do official DLCs, I doubt they would add a map from ArmA2. We can be SURE that when we get mods, all those sweet ArmA2 maps (Namalsk, Taviana, Pantera, etc.) will make their way into the Stand Alone.

Personally I'd love a map for DayZ set in Japan. The only zombie apocalypse game I played that was in Japan was Ryu ga no Gotoku : Of the end, and it was fun, but was more action oriented and not "survival" at all. Not mentioning not being an open-world either. But that's just my personal taste.

As for any official DLC, I wonder if we'll really get any and what would they be.

Thanks for the replies, this map is defo unfinished, it seems it may have been abandoned for Rocket to work on dayz, if so im glad he did. I just hope it gets revived and finished as a Dayz DLC. The towns, the layout all of it would be new to us, not even seen in A2. Some of the images on armaholic make me think of a climbing system to get to some of those snowy ledges :)

I'd prefer them to expand into Western Chernarus. LEave the community maps for mods. All the suggested DLC maps are generally very poor ideas.

Its Rockets map though....does that count as "community", meh *shrugs* :)

I wouldn't push for a solely community made map like the 3 I mentioned in the OP. I thought with this being a blank canvass so to speak they could create something of studio quality with it and give us a brilliant map. It could also come with a host of new mechanics, weapons, vehicles designed just for that landscape. It would be a sizable DLC not just a brushed up community map :)

New maps through DLC????

Cmon, this isnt EA Karma....

Release the game, give the community modding tools and you will see new maps popping up soon enough.
