The chainsaw is popping up though its just a matter of when i guess. I see no reason why they couldn't add something additionally humorous like that. We are playing a mature video game after all.

Chainsaws take some maintenance including oiling and link repair.  It would be highly impractical in this game, provided the setting.  They are also extremely loud which is a major negative.  They also weigh too much.  Very impractical for this game...

It is starting to seem more and more like the Dev's want to make an "arcadey" game rather than a realistic one. For one, a chainsaw is a HORRIBLE weapon. They are heavy, loud, and require fuel and other maintenance. Also, have fun having the thing jam up after gutting somebody with it. The blood and chunks WILL foul up the works very very quickly, so have fun carrying around 20+ of USELESS.

 

Plus,  I can go to the shitty "totally not a money-laundering front" home and garden store at the end of my street and buy a small chainsaw for about $30." High tier piece of civilian loot"? What can a chainsaw do that an axe, a maul, or a saw do equally good, if not better considering logistical demands?

Dont get mad at me man. This was already shown in the initial trailer at launch time of alpha. I had no say in the development of the chainsaw. And if they do what they are planning on with cars i imagine for the chainsaw to be functional will probably take a shit tone of work and parts just to be able to use. So yes in the end it may be more trouble than what its worth. Especially when they decide to add in a weight system. Arcady or not i expect it to be coming eventually.

Loot tiers whether it is Civilian, police and military would be categorization of the most commonly found tools and items to the rarest. It has nothing to do with one item being better than the other in terms of power.
