Rocket said shortly after release that hoods wouldn't happen due to problems with players heads/hats/etc clipping through the hood, unfortunately.

That's exactly why they don't cause clipping issues, they fit tightly to the head so it doesn't cause problems.

Apparently the head would clip through the hood as you turn your head and also the section where the hood joins the torso would cause problems.

As a 3D modeler/figure creator i always run into clipping when things push limits on proximity

Things such as hood and or loose fitting stuff usualy can avoid clipping easily due to the distance between the outside mesh and the figure in general and items like the balaclava which go down to shoulders yet tight on the neck and head

Are the items usualy would have clipping issues

And a hood should work much in the same way that a sleeve does, it uses bones and bends with the figure

Also in alot of games Clothing/Hairstyles even customizable ones can be made without clipping even if goes past shoulders :/ for instance hoods in games like APB or Fable dont clip and move with head and both support customized features and Hairstyles still without clipping issues

Unless you try to do it to lazily like not rig the head on the hood or vise versa and don't rig the hood as part of the torso

But realy i guess its up to the team making the game

But honestly i feel that it is do-able

And has been done before in titles ^_^

I Dont KoS and dont like assasins creed

And that isnt even same Genre xD

Dont see this as making sense at all in regards to rain protection and just generally that irl people hav option of wear hoodies with hoods up

I just like hoods and in survival scenario they have benifits help keep you warm and protect you from the elements

not wanting to play as an Assasins creed character at all

in dayZ or any other game

Hahaa but DayZ is so much fun and Less eagle vision to cheapSpot players xD

Just wanted to suggest a clothing item was all :3

Overall i love DayZ even with the past/current glitches still probably my favorite title

Only want more custom clothing pieces for various looking survivors After alpha and Beta

Whenever that may be

i hope it just keeps gets more Items ^_^

has been discarded by devs some time ago, as posted by Mos1ey.

has nothing to do with the engine though, character models/skeletons/rigging and cloth simulation doesnt need to use the legacy Arma system (which is horrible anyway). We have the Bullet physics engine in DayZ SA, which can be used to create robust cloth simulation. and to be honest, citing possible clipping as reason is an excuse in my eyes, because clipping is ubiquitous in this game anyway. no one would care much if a hood would clip slightly with a collar or glasses. i'd rather think it is beyond the capabilities of the current art team.

cloth simulation with collision is nothing new

I believe a recent dev stream said something like: They have talked about it and settled on very low priority.

Its not like clipping of character model and clothing is a non-issue. It has to be resolved anyways and the solution may or may not allow for hoods.

Hello there

Im sure it is doable, but to get it working correctly may not justify the cost or cycle overheads and pure pain in the assness that would ensue from doing it vs the reward of hoodies.

They could do it with "Parka's" as any 70s child will tell you those hoods didnt move much with the head especially with the cheap versions me and my mates mums and dads could afford. Literally tunnel vision.

Agreed

Although to be Honest Dynamic Cloth isnt Needed For Hoods Like Games Such as APB or Fable or Even the Big One Assasins Creed

Hoods Are Just as Static as Sleeves or other Gear

While Cloth Simulation Would Look Fantastic for all Clothing isnt Needed To Simulate a Hood

Did you play Arma2 with the character models that had hoods? The stretching wasn't that bad. As long as there's no decal on the hood there won't be any real nasty stretching look since it'd be a solid colour.

The model won't change when you turn your head ingame, but turn your head with a hood on right now and you'll notice there isn't much of a difference between in and out of game because the hood moves with your head anyway.

Agreed Thank you For that Notice in Arma2 I Have only Played StandAlone   :beans:

Also thought Dont Most Ghillie Suits Feature a Hood? Sure Many Players Will Want those :o

Im confused, we had a hood on the A2 ghillie....so why cant they texture a hood up hoodie, swap it on context selection to the hooded model, and remove any other headgear to backpack (or floor if pack full). I know it would be complicated and there is a reason they haven't done it yet. But there must be a workaround if they achieved it in A2 :)

AC doesn't have the ability for the player to try on a vast array of hats that needs to fit under that hood though.

Why can't hats just not be rendered while the hood is up? Or more simple, just don't allow the hood to be put up when a hat is on.

I don't know much about the Arma 2 engine, but the notion that hoods are impossible to implement due to engine limitations seems incredibly unlikely. No doubt it'd take a fair bit of work (in which case fair enough, it's not like hoods are a deal breaker - especially in alpha) but I find it unlikely that it's impossible.

Agreed I think To Many Games Have Found a Way to Deal With Not allowing Hats While Hood is on To Have that be a Very Valid Excuse

It Can Just Use up Same Slot as a Hat Surely Just Like When i Put on a Boonie Hat While Wearing a Baseball Cap My Character Doesn't Wear Both

But throws Hat in a Free Slot or Ground

(though that Would Be Hilarious to Wear a Stack of Hats)
