in game sound

Recommended Posts

cant take it anymore.

this sound is so un-reliable. its grinding my gears.

i just spend 2 days murdering people to get the best everything i can find.

only to be taken out by a guy with an axe. trouble is. he made no sound. just ran right up behind me and axed me.

GG

so much for guns keeping people at a distance.

you would at least think you could hear running or foot steps.

no instead i just hear random zombie sounds. random reload sounds. random drinking sounds. random reloading sounds. random tape sounds.

but when u need it most.

STEALTH TO UNGEARED PLAYERS WITH AN AXE who can take on a fully geared player because i relied on SOUND.

wasn't thinking oh, thats right. there is a chance he is silent.

makes me want to just storm around everywhere. stuff the sound.

sound is 80% of my game.

and im sure its alot for most players 2.

PLEASE FOCUS MORE ON FIXING THE SOUND.

so over it.

If 80% of your game is sound then you might want to rethink the way you play games... :S

The in-game sounds will be fixed at some point but with regards to when your guess is as good as mine.

i take it you have never played competative fps.

Did you really just compare a survival game to a competitive fps?

Sounds will be fixed when they get fixed.  Stomping your feet isn't going to make the developers work any faster.

Actually, up until recently I played CB/ESL/CG in CoD4. Played in a number of teams... Lots of CS and Quake too but not at as high a skill level.

what. where did i compare this game to a competative fps? sit down.

i simply pointed out how CRUCIAL sound is in a game.

sound is everything. you probably oblivious and dont understand.

in this game. your running in the wild. u hear a gun. what do u do. oh doesnt mean anything until i can see him? sounds not important.

no.

its the same in any game. SOUND>SIGHT

so you understand my point when i say how crucial sound is. especially in this game OVER fps games. because the round isnt over in 2mins. you will sit and listen to wilderness for hours on end waiting for that shot/footstep/voices

How many times during your 2 days of banditing to loot up do you think you benefited from the no sound? I got killed last night by an AK in Elektro to the West of the church, I didn't hear a single bullet fired and my mate heard them all from the sniper hill. I got killed by a Makarov at Veresnik military base because I didn't know where the guy was as the only sound I heard was the impact of the bullets hitting me (could see the guy in slow mo on my recording of the game).

The sound is really annoying but it is the same for them as it is for you. You will be getting kills where the other player doesn't even know what has hit them until it's too late. I guess what I'm saying is, make your point about the sound but don't make it out like you are the unlucky one as it no doubt will have benefited you a few times and you don't even know.

Rage on.  I'm sure the devs are working on the sound as we speak because of your very well written and thought out post.

anyway. rant over.

just let it be known, dont expect to be immune from players not being subject to "server sounds"

running @ you and killing you silently. you'd think you would at least hear a weapon sound.

Not in DayZ IMO. The lines of sight that are common in DayZ simply don't exist in competitive FPS games, you won't hear that bush-wookie in a tree 500m away until you're dead. ;)

Eyes > ears in Arma and DayZ.

While I do agree that sound is key in all games, and does need to be fixed in DayZ, I think either your 80% is a gross exaggeration or you are in fact "doing it wrong".

Also, this is not acceptable...

no you make a good point and i fully agree, however. my point is.

some players seem to be aware of the fact you can just run right up to people not making a sound. i dont need guns cause i got an axe. choppy choppy. haha. u didnt even hear it coming!

thats how it felt. i mean. if i was standing in the open and seen the guy there is no way in hell he would run up to me. let alone pull out an axe and try run at me. i would just cut him down in seconds.

I always hear the sound of people walking and running, zombies walking and running but not always gun shots.  Hell, playing with a buddy a couple of nights ago and I didn't have time to grab my axe before an infected was on so I shot my sks, he didn't even hear the shot and I was about 5 feet away.  This would also explain a lot of the "ZOMG HACKERZ KILLED ME!!!!" because they actually didn't hear the gun shot.

Mate i get your point about sounds, but no matter how butt hurt anyone might get when killed by glitchy mechanics, remeber it's Alpha, and also, Sound is generally one of the last things that gets finished off in alot of games, So you might need to take a break and wait a while or manage with the current mechanics, on a flip side i cant count the times ive lost my character to a glitch (fully gears, M4, mp5, protector cases etc) those chars never even got a chance to die just got 'reset' alot. So shit happens it stinks but bear with it

The difference is that it isn't directed at anyone in particular in his signature.

This. I think the problem has to be from your side if you can't hear footsteps because that's one of the only things I have never had a problem with.

Me too, but given the large number of audio issues that the game does suffer from I wouldn't be surprised if it happens on occasion.

This is DayZ. Don't trust anything or anyone, especially ladders, stairs and steep inclines. ;)
