Sword in the Castle.

Recommended Posts

i found a castle on my travels and thought it would be really cool if a long sword or some kind of short swords were found within the ruins. Maybe be able to sharpen it use rags around the handle piece or even leather straps. Just a thought.

You'd be better off using a stick.  Now if it was in a museum or a replica that'd be one thing.  You really think an iron or even steel sword is going to last long in Chenarus just sitting out in the rain?  If it wasn't looted long ago it'd be in shit condition

.

This would be more likely to find, an officer's dress Saber or another ceremonial sword.

What he says.

You're talking of weapons that will be aged about the same as the castles, which will be made of iron, and will through oxidation and general wear & tear be about as effective as slapping them with a wet sock.

Not really, It would still do some damage and make them bleed out with a hard enough hit. Even get infection from it or blood poisoning from the rust. But sharpening the sword yeah that was a mistake. Maybe do that if you could actually craft one from metals you find around the map.

Crafting from metals, aka smelting and so on? Hmm... would be difficult

But an easy solution would be to take something like the blade from a lawnmower and grind away a part so that you can make a handle out of it.

Wouldn't 'need' to do that to make a simple machete/short sword from a lawnmower blade (what you said would be best though) you could carve a handle from wood or use sticks, and wrap ducktape or cloth around it to secure the handle.  Wouldn't be the best solution but it'd do.  I'm no blacksmithing expert (or even a novice) but I do know that you need a pretty high heat source to smelt most metals or even to get them white hot.  You might be able to smelt aluminum using a wood fire but I've been told that you can't get the temp high enough with wood or even charcoal for iron.  We would also pretty much be limited to melting down or reforging scrap metal (I've got a railroad spike tomahawk proudly sitting on my weapons wall) since I doubt there'd be any iron deposits on the surface that haven't been exploited and (at least currently) there aren't any mines either.

Maybe they had re-enactments? I would like to see an armoured up zombie random spawn chance, hope you brought a firearm bud :) heheheh.

They could base armour of the mason order armour in chivalry medieval warfare it has a supposedly eastern Europe vibe.

I think the idea about ancient weapons isn't that bad and anything old and rusted (possibly a more sturdy remaining from past times like a mace) is much better than bare fists in melee with a zombie and would give the castle ruins some more atmosphere and one more reason to visit one.

There could also be the place for searching for arrowheads as soon as there is a way for crafting improvised arrows from ancient arrowheads, wood sticks and bird feathers. :)

I'm still waiting for a sock with a roll of quarters in it, so please get in line.

IMO, ancient swords don't seem to fit the flavor of the game.
