How are we supposed to play the game right now?

Recommended Posts

Thing is, it's not affecting all players. I'm no longer having to light fires/cooling down constantly. I kind of miss it. Different game completely.

The way I think of it is the op (and me previously) are playing as infected so have to eat way more/drink loads/light fires constantly or else they'll be zeds.

Nah. it just settles down once you have warm clothing.. you temperature becomes more "manageable", and you stop losing health so rapidly.. you just have to get through that barrier at the start as a newspawn... it makes dying a pain in the ass, because you know what is coming as a newspawn.... genius if you ask me....they just added more "value" to staying alive.

Actually, he's right. I had a character that was apparently invincible somehow to cold. His body temperature was 35 which seems to be low bound and a point at which he should have been hypothermic, he was not. After warming myself by a fire back to 36.6 to do some testing, he's constantly losing temperature and now it actually matters. Currently playing with the same guy sitting in a house with a green down jacket, cargo pants, hiking boots, ushanka, balaclava, gloves and watching his temperature slowly drop. Down to 36 now in 5 or 10 minutes he'll be cold and I'll have to start another fire. If cold doesn't seem to be affecting you much, I'd recommend trying to find a thermometer and measuring yourself, you may surprised to find it at 35 like I was. Before I could run around in a tracksuit no problem. Something somewhere is bugged. The game definitely isn't "unplayable" but this mechanic isn't WAD at the moment. For a number of people the bug is making you immune to cold and for others they are stuck in a cold cycle.

EDIT: When I had finished this post I alt-tabbed and was at 35.8, time for that fire. ;)

I cannot understand that someone have problems with zombies as they are so easy to evade and kill. I think they should be even harder and in greater numbers.

Tho they should fix some minor issues like hitting "behind wall"/"below floor" and clipping...

Haha.. yeah...but you temperature is more manageable with warm clothing, even if it drops to 35 you still will be fine for a while before you need to start a fire again... without warm clothing is hell... which is what people is noticing. I tested this in Experimental..once most of you body is cover with pristine warm clothing is very easy to manage you temperature.

I haven't had any issues with finding anything in the current build. I'm just as geared out as I was a month ago before the wipes minus a couple stripper clips. Besides being cold 24/7 I enjoy that zeds don't destroy all of my clothing in two hits now.

They definitely need to do some tweaking. I'm in a radar cap, hoodie, jeans, gloves and hiking boots and freezing my ass off. At most it's November in game so I shouldn't be cold while running in a field at midday.

Actually you should already have the cold status at around 35.8, if you're down to 35 you're freezing and actively losing health. What I'm now wondering is if there is a difference here between persistence-enabled servers and not. What was bizarre is that before using a fire my guy could be at 35 without freezing or cold status, after resetting his temp with a fire is when it started to be that even with very warm clothing I was constantly losing temperature.

Is OP seriously dying to zombies?

And starvation? In the current build? As a survivor of the hunger games that was exp 0.47 (apples anyone?), the current 0.49 stable is an orgy of foot and all kinds of supplies compared to that.

The "condition" of you clothing will also affect how fast you cooling down...which is a bit annoying because is no way to patch the normal Jackets ( the one you have in you pic ).

Are you saying it's not almost unplayable right now? The devs keep changing things that just make it harder and harder to test the game at all can they not tell what's too much and what's not?

Is it really that hard to quickly tone down how much health zombies have or how far away they can see you from? These things should have been adjusted before the navmesh updates, at least when they were glitching in to floors they couldn't relentlessly attack you or chase you for over 20 minutes.

These are things that do not need to be tested, they're so obviously broken and need adjusted so we can check out other things the devs do with the game.

All the devs are worried about at this point is adding content, which they are at a pretty good pace. The true "testing" comes after in the Beta.

Patience is a virtue.

Maybe go play the Mod until then?

Certainly it does, this is a pristine jacket and the most roughed up thing I'm wearing in the screenshot is "worn". As I said, prior to using a fire to reset my temperature I had had no issues with getting cold except for a few "I'm slightly cooling down" messages that never led to anything and I was wearing much less warm gear than I am in the screenshot. I think the messages were accurate, that is to say I was only slightly getting colder (though 35 seems to be the basement) because I wasn't naked or wet, problem was 35 wasn't killing me like it should have been.

The post I made regarding exactly what led to me experiencing the ugly side of this mechanic.

As for the state of the game itself even if you're suffering from the cold bug I'm talking about above (or benefiting form it), saying the game is unplayable is very hyperbolic. Freezing to death still takes quite a while, it's not unreasonable that you'd be able to mitigate this factor as I plan to try when this current guy dies from hypothermia.

So after dying of starvation like 3 times in a row, dying from losing a bathtub full of blood after a player and like 10 zombies attacked me while I defended myself with a pitchfork that didn't hit anything, I then spawn here.

CHlisqN.jpg

Where once again INSTANTLY a zombie sees me, from that shore over there(and promptly runs in the water to do lord knows what)

Then I see a player who leads a zombie away, which means FINALLY I get peace from zombies for 5 seconds to search for food! Of which there was none, naturally.

Found a pickaxe though.

Then I had to join another server, instantly a zombie attacks again while I'm checking an apple tree.

Swung the pickaxe at it like 10 times, 2 hits...

Then some douchebag with a shotgun comes out of nowhere and kills me from like 30m away.

The game seems so much more of a hellzone than ever before and it fucking sucks you have to be extremely lucky to get anywhere now it seems. If you want to look in literally any building you have to somehow survive many zombies with no weapons and it's just ridiculous, even if you manage to lure them away or kill them without losing all your blood you're not likely to find anything useful anyway.

Just wtf has happened since I last played the game a couple of months ago? It's just insane now. Last time it was at least survivable now you spawn hungry and more often than not get cold within seconds.

Sounds like you got very unlucky to me. Yeah loot is more scarce now but if you cant find it on the coast, search for berries and apples and move inland. The game is heading in the right direction if you ask me. Just needs a bit of tweaking thats all.

THAT YOU PAID TO PLAY.

No. That I paid to have access to. And I have access to it. The fact that I enjoy it and that I'm able to play relies on myself. I don't feel sorry for people who have regrets, it's their right, and their choice.

I paid. I play. I'm happy. B)

My healthy character says hi! Can't really give you beans, I fish for my food.

Hahaha, if he/she is raging about how hard it is in the SA you should not advise him/her to play the mod

Where is loot scarce? On a 40/40 server last night Berezino still had loot, enough to get semi geared. I'm not sure where you guys are looking but loot is everywhere. There were food houses passed over everywhere even in the middle of a death match with 12 to 15 people shooting anything that moved.

My idea of semi geared maybe different than most, hat, gloves, jacket, a garden hoe or splitting axe and my hunger and thirst status in check. Even found materials to make an improvised backpack and a bit of shotgun ammo. Hell if you can't find food eat apples to get you by until you find proper food

Edit: look at the pic Odin Lowe posted, if you manage to find the proper materials you'll never go hungry again

Persistent servers have a very low loot spawn rate...i literally gone through full towns that had NOTHING, not even a pair of trainers.. things still spawn, but is a lot harder to find stuff.. i like it personally, but i'm a bit masochistic .

Well you have a point, I play on some servers that say persistance enabled as well the plain generic non named servers(LA,NY,ATL etc). I'm not sure which one is telling the truth, I mean people name them friendlyhighlootnopvpclanserverjoin=kick but I always have the same character with respects to 3rd person/1st person hives.

I usually have no need for trivial loot like canned food/drink after about 25 to 30 minutes, as I've usually acquired all the stuff I need to survive, melee weapon/fishing pole with hook, water bottle and a backpack. Maybe I'm just lucky in finding loot

Hey everyone, I also suck at this game but I go on game forums and talk all big so people don't realize how much I suck.

It's really not that hard to find food on most servers. I find kiwis all over the damn place. Even under barracks bunks.

I like that its a challenge to survive the zombies, the cold and the hunger. I had to play and die a lot to learn how to do it. And it was fun. What is fun with surviving until they wipe your character with a new update? Now I don't die as often, but my current character needs matches to stay allive from the cold. I got full gear and are now faced with death without some fire! Its fun ^^
