Playstyle Poll

Recommended Posts

Let's get down to business.

Greetings. There have been similar polls according to the tag check, but here we want to see the rough overview of what the people in the community prefer to play as: Good, neutral, bad. A player group would like to analyze the results and your participation would be greatly appreciated. It does not take much, just about 2-3 clicks and a bit of consideration.

The poll can be found here, made via strawpoll:

(Why that and not a forum poll? I can embed that poll elsewhere, that's why!)

http://strawpoll.me/2636170

- Please pick the option that seems to fit you the most -

Thank you for your participation!

Self explanatory:

Rather Hero player

You mostly try to assist anyone if the situation warrants it. You may or may not have clear rules of engagement or tactics in order to avoid unnecessary deaths / kills or to encourage interaction with other players. You may or may not reserve the right to engage targets you seem "unfriendly" or suspicious by reports or gut feeling. This can generally be described as a more social approach to the game with friendly intent.

Neutral - Depends

You tend to vary or try to avoid people. You don't consider yourself a hero or bandit player on average or also change in between those depending on how you feel or if the situation warrants it according to your judgement.

Rather Bandit Player

You are usually out to get people's gear - and maybe pride. You are not looking for friendly interaction by default but social interaction nevertheless. You prefer to rob players and maybe dominate them. This can include things like force feeding them bad food or letting them go almost naked - but it may also include death at the end of any torture. People pretending to be friendly only to take advantage of others fall into this too. This can generally be described as a more social approach to the game with hostile intent.

KOS

Really? This needs a description? You get a weapon (and maybe ammo if it's not a melee weapon), perhaps some friends and you shoot or swing at anything else that is not known - because it might be a threat or because you think it's fun. Or both.

Neutral but sometimes a bandit, i like to break other players legs, rob them and then leave them, giving them the ultimate survival challenge.

The problem we have at the moment is that this game is often 'kill, or be killed'. I personally like to kill, but I will often hide from other players and try and communicate first before shooting.

If i'm taken off guard and suddenly come into a dangerous situation, it's shoot to kill.

I'd say neutral in that generally I try and avoid people. I won't snipe someone from afar because that seems entirely pointless as it's unlikely that I'll loot them (I don't randomly shoot animals for the same reason). If I'm in a town though and I find someone, have little option for escape and feel I have the drop before they discover me, I'll tend to kos or take my chances on the mic. I actually carry a pair of handcuffs in case someone survives in which case I'd patch them up and move on. It hasn't happened yet...

Since WOBOs experiments it's known that most people are opportunits, as so far displayed by your own poll "depends".

It might be nitpicking but i dont feel exactly represented by KOS. I'm one of the guys roaming the NWA area, looking trouble with people who also want trouble, preferably huge groups of people.

I call it hunter, but i guess KOS will do aswell.

You act like you are doing them some sort of favor.

Fascinating, of about 31 people so far, about half of those that took part seem to prefer neutral or changing methods of gameplay, followed up by heroes and KOS'ers, whereas classic bandits (as you'd imagine them) come last.

Then again, for the sake of simplicity it's split into basic categories: Those who picked neutral may as well be part-time bandits or heroes, too.

Need more data! Keep on voting! Thanks so far!

I play however I feel like playing at the time. Sometimes I just want to shoot people. Sometimes I don't feel like shooting people. Sometimes I feel like risking getting shot. Sometimes I feel like being a hermit.

I'd put that under "neutral", too, as it does include trying to avoid people by description.

It's just to see in what basic categories people roam Chernarus; more "in-depth" votes will certainly occur if we get enough people to take part here.

Share the vote with fellow DayZ players, folks. More data! Just takes 2-3 clicks! Thanks!

I'd like to say I'm a hero, as I've never killed another player, except for an unarmed bambie right after a firefight with another group. Though I never help people unless they're a fresh spawn and don't pose much of a threat.

100% KoS. Most of my encounters go like this

*Stumble upon other player or other player stumbles upon me*

Him: You friendly? What are...

*Bam*

I will rather play a Role than a play style... which is impossible right now... i'm not really into all the Bandits and Heroes thing with Psycho KoSers in between.... it all sounds so... childish....

I usually have several playstyles that I rotate through. Isolated, friendly, greedy, KOS. Once survival needs are met and all gear I want is obtained I usually KOS at millitary areas and leave my spoils to my murderer. The most fun I've had was being hunted and killed by "Heroes" during a camping KOS streak.

Me and my friend play as Neutral Scavenger players. The hunting aspect/living of the land aspect of the game is really rather boring to us, so we scavenge the cities for food/useful items that we can give to fresh-spawns/basic survivors (melee weapon wielding) as we move down the coast or inland. People who are roaming around alone with guns we kill on sight because they can't be trusted. People who are armed with guns and in small groups we'll attempt to make contact with and figure out if they're friendly or now.

We KoS people who are in airfields or military barracks/buildings.

The one time we attempted to make contact with some armed people in the old Balota military base we had a 10 minute gun battle and had to chase the last guy down, and as it turned out it was all a misunderstanding because a random guy attacked both our group and the other guys group.

That is my play style completely.  You need to add this option to the poll, as it does really fit into any of the possible selections.

None of these options, I don't care if you're in trouble, you're not my brother, we don't know each other, if you're in trouble you probably deserved it. I won't actively seek to kill you but if you're on my way I'll shot you without a word, I don't care about the bullshit you're trying to sell me, I don't have time for this. I keep moving, streets, forests, hills, it doesn't matter, I have my own goals and you're not part of them.

I try to reserve the killing of uninfected humans for those moments where it becomes a purely emotional reaction. I don't want to desensitize myself to violence in DayZ or I will lose that adrenaline rush I get seeing some men running towards me with guns their drawn.

Like I would do in real life, I run from most hostile encounters in DayZ. I haven't had to kill another player in the standalone yet, and I only killed maybe half a dozen in the mod. It would usually happen when I was protecting people I had met, or when I would get backed into a corner by someone who doesn't want to talk about it.

It's such a hostile world out there, I just can't pass up the enjoyment of running around in it. The rest of the playerbase being so trigger happy is actually a great backdrop for my own survival focused game.

So tempted to rename you "Max the Dick" but I won't since I'm polite and respectful.
