Tyrianrage 39 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) First off I would like to start by saying this isn't a bandit complain thread. Please don't insult any of the posters, and please refrain from psycho- analyzing people for their opinions; if your a psychiatrist you should be busy charging people 200$ an hour for your work. Not criticizing people on a public forum about their gameplay styles. I'mNot justifying being the bad guy, I'm purely interested to see what others experiences have been. Now that that's out of the way, lets address the topic at hand. In dayz, if your a bandit, how do you go about your daily activities? (I want to go on record saying that kos'ing unarmed players, without any good reason, especially from a distance is not my opinion of a bandit.)People who have been victimized, how was your experience? Funny? crappy? How, if at all, did the experience entertain you? I've played nearly all playstyles since I've started playing; hero, survivor, loner, psychopath, stalker. All of them in my opinion were a lot of fun in their own way, but what stuck with me the most was being a bandit.Something about capturing and robbing other players of supplies/information has been the most fun role playing I've had in dayz so far. I never carry food or water so i have a reason to capture people, something to gain from it. If the player is cooperative and roleplays with me, i always release them. And the fights that happen after a group of armed players try and save the victim, well they are the best part, but that's not what I want to talk about in this thread. So ill tell you a few quick stories representing the types of players I come across. And explain why some attitudes are counterintuitive to the game.Player A.I ran into player a a few days ago, he was walking up the stairs into a pub in svet, in which I was waiting at the top floor. As he comes up I pop out from the corner and point my weapon. 'Freeze, put your hands up'... He starts walking down the stairs. So I say again 'stop! If you run I will shoot' he doesn't reply and try's to run. Player A is dead. Why shoot him? He wasn't armed, but he was dangerous. He now knows where I am, what I'm equipped with, and showed that he doesn't care if he lives or dies. That's dangerous for me. So he had to go. This just isn't fun. Would you run from the guy who tells you to stop when he has the business end of a firearm pointed at you in real life?Player B.It was on the same day a little after player A had died and the server restarted. My jacket was ruined by a wall wackiness zombie and I was in need of a new raincoat, and some food. I saw a guy walking down the street, totally naked but with a Prestine green raincoat. So I run up to him and say 'hey man, *wave* *point weapon*'. He replies, 'oh shit, umm' I then tell him were gonna switch jackets, and if he agrees he won't die. So long story short, and after a bit of talking, he relinquished his coat and said he was leaving to find a gun. I told him to follow me. I then led him to a fully geared player I had killed a few minutes ago and told him to go nuts. He was confused and asked why? I told him it was for being a good sport about the coat. He was anxious and didn't want to die, he complied the best he could, which in the end got him his life, and full gear.Player C, he's my favourite. This is by far my favourite experience in dayz so far. We captured a Bambi and he was role playing. I mean reeeeaaally role playing. He said his wife and child had died to a group of bandits. And that he wanted revenge. During this encounter I made a friend. We ended up grouping with him and hunting down the bandits that 'killed his wife and child' and gearing him up. We still play together. I love these guys so much because they make bandit role playing fun. This is the kind of person i am when I get captured. So I'm excited to hear what your experiences are as a bandit, or victim. What you like/don't like.If you don't care please don't post. Thanks for reading. Edited September 16, 2014 by Tyrianrage
robbyj 77 Posted September 16, 2014 I feel as if I am as veteran as you can get for the Dayz Standalone. I am jaded. I do not care about other players. My only goal is to explore and survive. My only rule as a bandit is never back stab anyone. If you are going to stab them, stab them in the face. What I am trying to say is, fight a true, an honorable fight. Do not pretend to be friendly and then execute your prey the first chance you get to compensate for your poor PvP skills. I also never rob people, usually you end up with a couple of scratches and about 4 minutes of trash talk. Just shoot, loot, and move on.
dirrly 70 Posted September 16, 2014 So I'm excited to hear what your experiences are as a bandit, or victim. What you like/don't like. I actually never bandit because... i can't... robbing another player even in a game like this makes me have a guilty conscience. No joke. So I stay in the role I am able to play: Mr. Nice Guy. And that of course makes me the perfect victim for all kinds of bandits. And I really like roleplaying bandits... as long as the roleplaying is more than just "Put your Hands up." - You are dead. Then I can even enjoy being a victim and even to die in the end, if I get for a knive or machete after being robbed and try to take my revenge or stuff back. ;-)
sab0t 109 Posted September 16, 2014 typically after sighting someone, i will stalk them both to gauge how much of a threat they are, and to get a good opportunity to strike. if it's somewhere like NWAF where they are generally well armed i'll follow them into the treeline after they think they've gotten away. i've never really held someone up or robbed them, seems like a great way to get yourself shot to me. Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted September 16, 2014 The last time I held someone up I merely cuffed them and ran off laughing, I didn't even take anything, I just wanted to cuff them and leave them on the road. Mostly because it was funny and really didn't harm them much (unless someone else or a zed came along). It's all a part of what makes the game special and different. I like the player C story most btw.
Pandema 352 Posted September 16, 2014 I gave up "banditing" after everyone decided that going out guns blazing was the best course of action. That, and dead bodies don't find back much when you try to take their things.

Cynicism and the zombie apocalypse do go hand in hand in some casesI actually never bandit because... i can't... robbing another player even in a game like this makes me have a guilty conscience. The worst is people who just cross their virtual arms and go 'nuh uh' when they get stuck up. typically after sighting someone, i will stalk them both to gauge how much of a threat they are, and to get a good opportunity to strike. if it's somewhere like NWAF where they are generally well armed i'll follow them into the treeline after they think they've gotten away.i've never really held someone up or robbed them, seems like a great way to get yourself shot to me.Yeah I used to play the stalker role, I don't normally bandit with people near military locations though, if I'm near a place where everyone I'm seeing has the same gear I do, I play the stalker, try and kill them In a place I can loot them more easily.Yeah I've been killed a few times doing it, that's why I never corner myself, and I always have a few eyes in the sky. Hard to kill a guy who is prepared. The last time I held someone up I merely cuffed them and ran off laughing, I didn't even take anything, I just wanted to cuff them and leave them on the road. Mostly because it was funny and really didn't harm them much (unless someone else or a zed came along). It's all a part of what makes the game special and different. I like the player C story most btw.Lol I reserve that punishment for the guys who hate bandits so much they refuse to play along at all. So I handcuff them, break their legs, and burlap sack them, then leave them to crawl around blindly for what I'm sure must seem like an eternity. That'll teach em. Person c is a champ lol.
The Aquatic Land Walrus 565 Posted September 16, 2014 Being a hero is harder than being a KOS "bandit", but just slightly more difficult than being a true bandit. I've played both, and having rarely killed anyone, I'm surprised how fun it is. People generally gave me a positive response, and anyone who insulted me got shot in the face. I call that a win-win.
robbyj 77 Posted September 16, 2014 Interesting thread. I can't say i agree with some of the tactics listed above. I can say however it must be up to player preference because I have seen some very talented heros out there.
Bigbadchuck 97 Posted September 17, 2014 I don't think I'm a bandit. I wake up, take a swig off my canteen. Nibble on something to eat. Them I grab my gear and go hunting. I pick a high traffic area and find me a nice lil secluded area to set up in. I set some bait a few hundered meters away and wait. Anyone dumb enough to stop and look at the loot bait get shot in the head. Bodies make the best sniper bait. Same thing every day. Pick a spot and kill anything I see
ld-airgrafix 403 Posted September 17, 2014 My choice of play is lonewolf explorer, i stay away from other players and avoid airfields and army barracks. I came across a player at some ruins, with nothing but clothes on his back. I was tempted to get my first kos, but i thought interaction was better, i had my mosin pointed at him and told him no funny stuff. After a brief chat i gave him my badly damaged coat with two cans of opened food and drinks. He was happy and thankful. His story was, he got robbed not long ago and asked if i could spare a gun or something for his revenge. I told him to move away a certain distance and i will drop 1911 with some ammo. He asked if i can help him with his revenge, i decided to continue with his roleplay by telling him i dont want to get involved, it was his fight. The truth was im logging off soon. He did as i said, i dropped the gun with 15 bullets, and walked away. He took the gun and walked in the opposite direction as promised. I decided to go back to the ruins to see if he was honest. I could see him running down the hill when all of a sudden he decides to loop around. I dont think he knew i was back in the ruins. Even after loosing him in the tree line, i positioned myself to face the direction i was supposed to be at. Few minutes passed and he pops out of the trees, exactly the same spot i supposedly left.My mosin pointed at him, i asked why are you following me, he immediately fired his gun towards me, but after running his gun sway was really bad, i didnt even hear the bullet hit anything. Also not sure if he knew but i didnt have a clip so he could only fire a bullet at a time. I shot at his chest, i saw the blood but he didnt die, he ran back to trees. I shot few more times but nothing. I have to admit im not really comfortable at pvp, and my record shows that, i usually come out second best. Normally i would have backed out and ran the other way, but a wipe is supposed to be coming so i had nothing to loose. I circled around and crept forward , but couldnt find him.Anyway it was a great little roleplay, and i enjoyed it, i survived.

Parazight 1599 Posted September 17, 2014 I bandit KOS with your standard fare of melee weapons. Well, at least until they introduce the sock with a roll of quarters in it. Then I'm using that for sure.
