Zephyr880 1 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) So, I was playing DayZ on one of my very few days off, and my brother and I were going to the NWAF for the very first time. I have a total of 33 hours in this wonderful game, and I just never thought to go to the KOS infested airfields, but we figured why not? We ran for hours, looting any of the military locations on our way north, and eventually made it there. We were lucky and found a heli crash a little ways away from the medical tents, looted it, looted the med tents after scoping them out with binocs for 15 minutes, then made our way into the airfield itself. Now, the entire time we were running we were talking about being sniped by someone in the trees, or being gunned down by a dude in the ATC tower, but neither of those things happened. We got comfortable in the prison after looting it and just started talking and trading loot. This is where it gets a little dicy. I was looking through my inventory, just trying to organize everything, when my little brother yells that he sees someone. I kind of freak out a little and close out of my inventory, get my gun ready, and turn to the door and what do I see? A dude with a CR. He fires all his shots, knocks my brother out, then tries to run out of the building. I figure now would be a good time to try out a frag grenade I had gotten from one of the places we looted on our way north. I missed (of course), because I'm a noob and bad at game. So, I take out my AK, fire all of my bullets into him, then heal my brother and we move on with our lives.Just wanted to say, you're the third person I've killed so far, and every single one of those people have shot at me first. I wasn't doing anything to bother you, you just thought you could take my stuff. So, I hope you had a good time getting all your loot back, and I wish you a nice day.Is this just the common thing in this game? People shooting on sight? I would have been completely willing to give him any of the things I had picked up throughout the day. Heck, there was an AK I had left upstairs with a 75 round mag in it. (I currently have 4 or 5 of the things and I'm starting to think I should drop em somewhere)All I'm saying is, maybe people should be more willing to talk to each other first, instead of trying to kill everything that breathes near you. Edit: I'm a noob and said CZ instead of CR Edited September 14, 2014 by Zephyr880
stinkenheim 249 Posted September 14, 2014 It was an airfield, people's mentality changes at military locations and you will be very hard pressed to find a friendly player in one. Occasionally you would at the old NEAF because there was a higher chance that you would meet a new spawn there but don't hold your breath on it.Basically it's because to be at an airfield you will, 99% of the time, be armed. You will also likely be looking for similar gear to other players therefore are competing with them for the same goals.Lastly, paranoia is an amazing thing. Most players (myself included) adopt a very aggressive mindset in military locations and will therefore assume every other player will be thinking the same way so no one talks, no one takes risks, they just seize an opportunity that they find. kitthegreat 43 Posted September 14, 2014 Nwaf is a pvp zone, expect to be shot on sight. As stinkenheim says a player who is generally friendly (like myself) will shoot first and ask questions later at big military spawns like that. Personally it's where I like to go for a fight, not a big fan of the cess pool berezino.
Zombie Milkman 167 Posted September 15, 2014 I had a new spawn run into a tent I was in at NWAF. He had nothing. I had a 101. He was talking to another buddy the whole time so I heard him coming all the way. When he sees me he says, into the mic "blah blah blah blah in this tent... HOLY SHIT!" I say in a fake Australian accent, "Have a good one mate! She's all yours 'cause I don't kill new spawns. G'day!" And blew out of there.
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) Gday is an inappropriate exiting dialogue. The appropriate australian 'goodbye' is a finger to the air, a slug to the chin, and a catch ya later *insert expletive of choice here* Your chance of surviving at NWAF or military spawns decreases dramatically with every player on the field. Get in get out, or stay and kill and be killed.Aside from fierce competition of valuable resources, other players are quite aware of the risk, and the 'he'll be agressive' mentality compounds in a downward spiral as other have said above.Definitely not a nice place to befriend people, unless they're already on the end of someone elses barrel. But then DayZ players are notoriously underhanded to boot. Also, he's probably gone in, got spooked and decided it's safer just to off your brother than run away and risk being shot in the back or chased to the ends of the earth. It's what i'd do, except then i'd clear the building, kill you, close the doors and then slit open your stomache and bowels, so as to release your soul to the afterlife, allowing you to respawn once more. What i do from there is my own business. Catchya c***s! Edited September 15, 2014 by q.S Sachiel

The kid sounded like he crapped his pants when he saw me though. Even if I was a KOS guy, I would have let him live on principle. Men don't kill other men taking a dump. It's a 10 point deduction on the Man Card if you do. Edited September 15, 2014 by Zombie Milkman
Rammur 59 Posted September 15, 2014 You do relize why people go to nwaf? They go to gear up and they dont gear up to kill buggy zombies they gear up to kill other players main reason why people are gonna assume hostile over in that area chances are full military geared players are in fact looking for pvp and others to kill always assume hostile only players i will actually engage to see if they are friendly are players who are sporting civvy/survalist gear like basic clothes and maybe civvy weapons.
