OptimumVision 60 Posted September 7, 2014 Based on dayZ origins I think it's safe to say that the virus originated in Taviana, whilst the virus was still unnoticed it hitched a ride on numerous aircraft to places like Namalsk, Lingor Island, and Chernarus. To support this theory on Chernarus+ there is a crashed airplane in the middle of Chernogorsk, along with that the zombie population in the south is considerably more then the north (Novo compared to Elektro.) meaning that the plane that came form Taviana could have crashed in Chernogorsk spreading the virus. However this can be countered because the planes rear is in the direction of Balota airstrip meaning that the plane may have taken off from Balota and just crashed when the infected got on board.
Katana67 2907 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Taviana, Namalsk, and Lingor are not in the lore of ARMA II at all, in which Chernarus+ has been situated. They're user-generated maps for mods. Plus, the south is densely populated (i.e. more people to turn into zombies). Whereas the north (until recently) has been sparsely populated. Interesting theory though! I'm all for folks putting forth their own interpretations. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/186377-framework-for-lore-discussion/ Edited September 7, 2014 by Katana67
Chaingunfighter 917 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Besides the fact that DayZ Origins, Namalask, Taviana, Lingor, and most other maps aren't canon at all, I don't think the fact that a plane has crashed into a building somehow proves where the virus came from. The crash could've because of an intentional terrorist attack, engine failure/mid-air collision, the plane being shot down, poor weather, or simply a random plane from an unknown location crashing because of infected passengers/crew. (The only maps that are canon in the Armaverse are Chernarus, Utes, Takistan, Zargabad, the "Proving Grounds", and Shapur. However, the only place where zombies are actually canon in the DayZ universe is Chernarus, everywhere else could be fine for all we know.) The most likely idea is that it was just added to create a cool setting in Chernogorsk and that it's really up to the player to decide what happened, rather than it actually being significant.
