MagneticToast 102 Posted September 6, 2014 Like suggested before, all players should spawn with an ID card that they can fill out anyway they'd like.
doctajones 123 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) It's obviously the place to put your dime bag, since they are planning on adding that too. Edited September 6, 2014 by doctajones

sachad 1016 Posted September 7, 2014 I like the idea of using bullets as currency. Different types of ammo, would be like different denominations of coins, and scarcity of the ammo would determine its value as currency. I remember in one of my first days I traded a guy three cans of peaches for a pile of .357 rounds, and then later on traded some 5.56 ammo for a fire axe. It is a nice idea, but I doubt DayZ will ever have it's own Stone of Jordan. Loot and death is too random and volatile. An item's value grossly fluctuates; to someone starving, the could be willing to give extra weapons an ammo, while to others food wouldn't even be considered in a trade. In addition, with no complete safe trade mechanism, why trade your precious can opener when you can have a friend snipe the would be trader? A few months ago I proposed a wallet for the following reasons:Carries your ID. Whenever someone is killed, you take their ID and keep it in your wallet. You can keep a tally of your kills, and if you are ever held up, the people check check your wallet to see if you are a killer or not.Can carry maps, notes, etc without taking extra space. I think this would increase the prevalence of death notes and the like(new) keep your dime bag
sachad 1016 Posted September 7, 2014 My friends are mostly elsewhere. I don't like playing in groups for long times, I'm too impulsive :P And I'm not a killer. No match for bandits, no threat to bambis. Trading is fun to me. And I guess some people will trade a few bullets for everything you have, but that's the apocalypse for ya. I think I misspoke too, I did not mean having ammo as a fixed currency, but rather the most commonly used form of trade currency. Especially in my case, as my level of skill usually means I spend five times as much ammo as a good shooter. I'll gladly accept SKS ammo as payment.

Bullets only have one use, and you would essentially be bankrupting yourself by shooting them. Also, if you don't have a firearm chambered in that caliber, the bullets are literally worthless. Also, bullets (more the gunpowder, specifically) go "bad" (decreased power, range, accuracy) over time due to chemical decomposition. Also, quality cannot be controlled very easily. Scarcity of replacement smokeless powder, primers, and worn out cases (modern bullets require chemicals and supplies from around the world. If the shit hits the fan, there would be no more bullets being made) limits the supply of available currency. Eventually, the supply would get to the point were you would be "better off" hoarding bullets than using them, AKA useless as currency, or as a trade good, for that matter. And if a group can make more ammunition, chances are they are using commodity currency (money based off the recognized value of a specific trade good), or hell, if they are powerful enough to dominate trade in a region, fiat currency. (Essentially, governments say how much their currency is worth because they'll kick your ass if you disagree.) Again, hard alcohol. Can't go wrong. Solid trade good, and a good basis for a commodity-based currency. Edited September 7, 2014 by Whyherro123
