Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 1, 2014 Unlike all other attachments, M4 handguards can only be 'swapped' - they cannot be removed and put back into inventory (perhaps this goes for the AKs, I don't know because I'm an M4 guy). But even if you have inventory space for the swap, the one being removed will often disappear. This is a particular problem if, like me, you are cretinous enough to actually try running around with two M4s; because somewhere in the back of your mind you'd like to give one to a noob. If you try putting something like a pristine RIS on your spare M4 (the one in your hands), the old one will disappear, and you will not be able to get the good one off - at least until you find another handguard at a crash site. But it's also a problem more often than not if you have one M4 and just try to swap one in your inventory for the one on the gun. The one being swapped out will just disappear, whether or not you have inventory space for it. I'm assuming this particular mechanism is because no one wants to be able to fire an M4 without a handguard, but it does seem a little broken.
RagedDrew 209 Posted September 1, 2014 If it's vanishing then yeah something isn't right, I've been able to swap hand guards and the other has always appears in my inventory. I've not done it for awhile so I'm unsure if/when it broke.
Dagwood 680 Posted September 1, 2014 I'm a noob in need of an M4...
Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 1, 2014 I'm a noob in need of an M4... Sorry, already dumped it  . It was the only way I could solve the conundrum. At one point, in a very misguided attempt to solve it, I put them both down, and one disappeared. I found it eventually (20m away), but the only way I could get the old one in all its MP/ACOG attachment glory back, while retaining the RIS handguard option, was by finding another handguard at a crash site and swapping them out. For some reason, I'm very lucky with guns. Over the past two weeks I've dumped an AKM/PSO/drum, a 101 with a PSO, and about two hours ago another 101; all in favour of M4s. I just can't be faffed running about with two, and it always seems to lead to unhappiness.

I must have M4!
Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 1, 2014 Look at the probable crash sites and figure out a run which takes in as many of them as possible. Experienced heli hunters know exactly the run I mean. You have only a 4.5% chance of a site spawning, and within that of an M4 spawning I'd guesstimate about another 5%. When I was actually desperate to find one, and after I'd found a pristine version of every single sight and attachment available, I did my standard run for 48 hours before one turned up. Then, just when I'd stopped looking for M4s, I found another two in the space of two hours... :P The char I had before this ran straight to NWAF, found a 101 and a mag in the barracks, and then noticed there was a crash site on the runway which had an M4 on it. It's just a mix of luck and persistence. Alternatively, go to Berezino on a high pop server with an SKS and kill a hacker. If I find another one I'll PM you, but it's wipe soon. <_<
hells high 676 Posted September 1, 2014 I've done this on AK's before. I carried a 101 in my hands and an AKM on my back for my friend, and swapped the handguards (wanted the AK74 look for my 101 :P). The wooden one appeared on my 101 but the plastic one seemed to disapear. I swapped to the AKM and alas, no handguard. Took off the stock, put it back on, still no handguard. I reloaded, and poof it appeared. The invisibility glitch is a very bizarre bug, and I tend to lean towards that being the culprit of most incidents over actual item deletion. blacklabel79 949 Posted September 1, 2014 Op you dont like the BIS ? IF i find m4´s one of those things is allways Close. IMOH a better iron sight Option than the handguard.
Mookie (original) 799 Posted September 2, 2014 No, I like the RIS just fine. But I'm not sure if it affects any of the stats on its own - does it?. It's the bipod that affects the stats, assuming you're prone, etc. Whereas the MP handguard seems better for accuracy no matter what.
bauertschi 254 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) No, I like the RIS just fine. But I'm not sure if it affects any of the stats on its own - does it?. It's the bipod that affects the stats, assuming you're prone, etc. Whereas the MP handguard seems better for accuracy no matter what. Here is a table - not from me, found it somewhere in this forum. If those values are correct, the RIS reduces dispersion by itself and is the second best handguard, if no bipod is used. And when thinking about the bipod, do not discount the dexterity malus. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17Vy-Z05L0kZxNiV-ebcRlAORoRvDoURLLzHFgaKSKTA/pubhtml Edited September 2, 2014 by bautschi
