What do you think about the building interiors in this game?

Recommended Posts

So I'm here to ask you fellas if you also bother with how disproportionate the interiors of buildings in this game are compared to the zeds/survivors. I belive that one of the best examples of this are those red or green houses that doesn't spawn loot and has a little stair that leads to the living room, where you usually finds nothing. Notice how small those stairs are, it doesn't fit ones feet in the step!

But the proportion problem is also present in every other interior, most of the objects like chairs, tables, hospital beds, ovens, refrigerators, cabinets... you get the idea. Are the interior objects placeholders, because maybe they will add funtionality to some of them?

That big new building in novodmitrovsk, imagine if there was a fire in there and people would have to use them stairs, it fits one person only! At the top of it, the doors get annoying because when open, they block where you can walk. What it most affects imo are the graphic quality of the game, this is a thing that really breaks the imersion for me lol and it is everywhere!

Also may I ask, how do I take screenshots?

Steam/In Game/screenshot key.

Those houses do spawn loot.

Not a game  breaker.

yeah building interiors are far too small scale and it is strange that some buildings dont spawn loot ever including a some that did in the mod or earlier in SA's development.

I know what you mean about the 2 houses, they were used pre-release in dev-showcases and used as an example of how many places you can find loot and the complexities or where they can be placed... I check them out of novelty now, every time they're empty. There's a picture somewhere of over a dozen tins of beans in that house, tucked away as an example of how the loot can be hidden. I check evrytiem and i cry  evrytiem  :(

EDIT: Thought. People don't check those house anymore, they're always empty.. is that why there's food everywhere else in abundance? Because the ratio is messed up.

I do not see that as much of a problem.

True, stairs get crowded easily, but to place much emphasis on chair or table size seems pointless to me.

Yeah, it is not gamebreaker or something, its just ugly imo lol

I mean, I think this is one of the few, if not the only game that I know that has this sort of problem. It's usually more common in RTS games.

You see, take a loot at this

Everything fits, the character could interact with any object in this room. It adds a ruge realism to a scene imo, and things might get ugly when we get barricating lol

Hey I don't think you quite realise what we have come from....the original map had only a handful of buildings you could enter...now nearly all of them are. If the scale looks a bit 'off' I guess its because they (devs) wanted to keep the general layout of the towns the same and so didn't want to change the external size of the buildings/houses too much.

You are never going to get the detail that you get in a single player corridor shooter. The interiors are functional and I think they look quite good.

Yeah that is true man, I belive its because it would need to change the size of  the buildings. The Novod skycraper would need it at least. But maybe this change doesn't need to be so big in order to make things a bit more realistic

Maybe our avatars are all taller northern European or generally well fed and not to the same scale of those who were malnourished or living off vodka during the communist regime? Could always shrink our avatars rather than grow all the buildings.

On the topic of buildings the other day I started to take screenshots of pictures hanging in them. There's some interesting ones. There's a lot of touches from an artistic standpoint that I think most of us simply run right by and take for granted or don't notice. Also, every time I'm in a bedroom where there's blood smeared all over the floor I just think of that one Frankie episode where the guy in the mask with the voice changer is like, "Oh no, somebody forgot to use a tampon" and I start laughing. LOL...

Yeah smaller avatars could be a thing too!

I'll provide some nice screenshots of all this really soon, now that I know how to make them.

EDIT: Me and a friend went on a quest for them holy screeshots, and here are some nice ones. Don't mind the potato

Well damn after seeing those screen shots no wonder you're complaining LOL. You're on a potato so what do you expect? I can make out shimmering wallpaper grain on my settings.

Lol I'm not talking about resolution, textures or lightning issues, its more about the proportions betwen the chars/zombies and the interiors. There are no options in the graphic settings that change that, it will look just as bad in your system man, but with better textures, resolution and shadows'n shit. My point is only about the proportions, it would make the game look a lot better even on my system!

Btw yeah I run it in a toaster lol, with this graphics I still lag a lot and doesn't pass 40 fps. But it is enjoyable, the game is gud even with shitty graphics.

I guess since I play in first person primarily I don't see this as noticeable but I can see your point in the models not being proportionate. The chairs in Novo tower look like they are made for a child for example :Dhttp://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/73499800108282995/3004A81615F51DDD6E9BC804FC7FECF3E9EB8931/.

Yes sorry when you said graphics I think of textures and yes this game is good no matter the settings IMO :)

I like how the OP is discussing the size of objects compared to the size of a character and some are like "well your playing on super low settings, what do you expect" as if your settings change the size of objects but keeps the character the same size. Maybe these guys should have used the money they spent on a high-end system for reading classes.

Maybe you should take your own advise? I said when he mentioned "graphics" that's why I thought he meant textures as well. Besides the OP even joked about his potato so relax internet tough guy, nobody is hating on him.

How exactly was my post insinuating I'm a "Internet tough guy"? I did take my own advice and read every comment hence my first post.

Maybe bohemia has a plan for a hobbit game and will just use the same map and buildings for Shire. First will come the mod, than a standalone hobbit game.

Yes sir, thats silent hill 2. One of my favorite series and imo it aged good in some aspects. Interiors is one of them!

I would like to see dayz interiors as close as possible to say, this

Imo it would be seriously good with the lightning effects that we already got, if we had proportional interiors.

I was always chicken to play this game.

Imo it still is one of the best single player experiences out there man! I still play the 3 first games of the series, some parts are truly amazing and the atmosphere it creates is incredible. Scarry as fuck sometimes lol

Get your headphone and play this shit man, you will not regret it.
