blackberrygoo 1416 Posted August 27, 2014 Well as the topic certainly says ; where's the talk of barricades ?!? This has been my most beloved feature on the roadmap (and is on the roadmap for quarter 3 which technically ends by the beginning of October ) but there has been absolutely no talk of it for the entire alpha development ... I'm assuming the zombies clipping through walls would have to be addressed before they could start to work on the barricades but im surprised more people don't talk about this ... So barricadeZ, if anyone has any info , spill the beanz , otherwise post your comments of obsessions over 2x4's here !!
pillock 850 Posted August 27, 2014 Dean Hall spoke about it briefly in an interview I saw a month or so ago. Didn't give much detail, but they are working on it. I can't remember where I saw it, unfortunately. But anyway, they obviously need to get the persistence mechanics working much, much better before barricading can be implemented, otherwise it'd be pointless. I agree though, this is the most important upcoming feature as far as I'm concerned.
Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted August 27, 2014 It's because we are far early from seeing bug free infected that are considered a threat to the survivors.I don't see a benefit in having a barricading mechanic disccussion without functioning zombies. When the renderer is implemented and if we get significant performance boost, only then we could increase their numbers (who knows how long that will take). haknslash 763 Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Yea Dean has briefly touched on barricading before. He said he draws a lot of inspiration from how barricading is in Dead Linger. After seeing some ArmA 3 Epoch yesterday, I can only hope it's a blend of Dead Linger and ArmA 3 Epoch because that would be amazing! @damnyourdeadman, Barricading in DayZ is less about the zombies and more about the other critters ;) Edited August 27, 2014 by haknslash

Deathlove 2286 Posted August 27, 2014 Barricading doors and windows will be a nice touch to the game once it pops up! Should go great with item persistence anyways.

I don't think that's the right way of looking at it. In gameplay terms, we don't actually need hunting yet in order to survive (because lootable food is so abundant) but we've still got hunting mechanics. It's not a case of balancing gameplay elements, it's a case of just getting features in the game. DayZ is (apparently) on course to be "feature complete" by the end of 2014: zombies, as a feature, are technically in the game already so I wouldn't expect them to be perfected until well into next year; whereas, we should have barricading, vehicles, and everything else - in some clunky and unfinished form or other - all in the next 4 months. hothtimeblues 128 Posted August 27, 2014 This is a great question.I would think that barricade work can be put in the game a lot easier than vehicles. So I see you point as to why is there no talk about it lately. It's safe to say that they probably realized that fixing the engine, ambient noises, and major stuff like that is sucking up their time and resources. Which is understandable. It looks like we are seeing the issues of having such a small staff for months, and months now biting them in the butt.We also have not heard anything about the ambient sound progress since hiring dedicated sound people.
