Would assume that they'd have to iron out the zombie aggro stuff before they can make suppressors decent as well.

No SD ammo so no point to silencers atm

SD, or subsonic ammunition, is not required to make suppressors useful.

1. They could just make them "Hollywood" in that they silence supersonic or "regular" ammunition

2. Suppressors still reduce the dB level of supersonic ammunition (by 30 dBs average). They don't magically make it subsonic. They don't make it quiet, it's still really loud with a supersonic round, but it does reduce the dB level of supersonic rounds. Likewise, they modulate the sound of a rifle's report to be more difficult to ascertain the origin of a shot down-range.

3. Lest we forget, they also minimize the muzzle flash of a weapon, which is substantial in DayZ.

Amphibia S pistols have a built-in suppressor. The only problem is finding a mag for them which is stupid rare. However bullets are not too uncommon, and you can chamber single bullets which is still handy for clearing zombies silently. Not my weapon of choice against players though.

Hey,

The Amphibia S is very silent but it seems to take more then a single head shot to kill a Zed. Maybe its me but what good is it for a silent zombie killer pistol if you can't take a Zed out with one shot?

The Amphibia S was one-shot headshotting zeds for me. Perhaps you were desync'ing and the headshot didn't register properly?

Also, I believe suppressors will not reduce the noise signature to a complete zero, there is still a little sound, possibly enough to attract zombies that are within a close proximity. Still beats dinner bell rifles.

All gunshot sounds attract zombies within the same 100m range, and if you kill a zombie with a gunshot, one will spawn nearby.. If it spawns within 100 meters of you, it will automatically aggro onto you. If you are in wide open areas with no way to break LOS/Pathing, then the zombie will attack you.

So as far as Amphibia's go, they're only good for reducing sound that players hear, not zombies.

On topic: Heli crash sites, and they're rare as fuck.

True, but this is arma, which means silencers only work with SD ammo.  Therefore: no SD ammo in, so silencers don't work atm.

I wondered why when shooting a zed with a silenced rifle, another 4 came running my way.

suppressors were strategically withdrawn from the loot tables pending support for their function.

No, this is DayZ. Where they've separated ammunition from magazines and suppressors from weapons, and can change the values of a suppressor with a .cfg file.

They can make suppressors work however they wish. They (the developers) create the game. They've even said that they're not going to include subsonic ammunition, or don't plan on doing so. Yet suppressors are, or were, in. And they're now removed until functionality can be added, so, it's not like they're useless without subsonic ammunition either way.

EDIT - And no, if I recall correctly, even when using a mag of non-SD ammunition in ARMA/DayZmod, it sounded suppressed either way. It aggro'd zombies like nobody's business, but on my end, all mags (SD and non-SD) being run through a suppressed weapon sounded suppressed.

If I recall correctly, you could not load Non-SD ammo in an SD weapon.

However, you could load Stanag SD in an M4, fire that M4, and while it sounded unsuppressed, it would be silent to zombies (and zombies only).

Interesting they removed silencers until they are fixed. Why not remove ambient sounds until those are fixed as well?

Silencers never worked in the first place dummy.

He never said they did, dummy.. English probably isn't your first language, but you know enough to call someone a dummy so you should know enough to not to draw false conclusions.

One could argue that neither have ambient sounds...

That has been my experience as well.  I thought it would make a decent zed gun after they f'ed up the melee hit boxes but I found that it would still attract zeds in the nearby area.

What the fuck? I didnt say that silencers ever worked. I was saying why only remove silencers for being broken when a lot of stuff is broken? In other words, what made them chose silencers to remove over more serious broken things like ambient sounds.

There were a couple guns that would fire normal ammo through an SD Weapon. I believe the Makrov SD, which isn't in the normal vanilla mod but is in several others would do that.

In other words, what made them chose silencers to remove over more serious broken things like ambient sounds.

Well, they can't remove all sounds and all sounds are broken. Silencers, on the other hand are very misleading if they don't work. You work to find one, take the risk, put it onto your gun, then sneak up on a group of zombies and "Holy AGRO! Agh... ah... too many zombies!"

That is why they removed Silencers, they would mislead a player into doing something they didn't realize was stupid.

Saying that something is removed to be fixed implies that something is broken. When something has never actually worked, it's not broken. It's just not yet implemented.

When you compare silencers to ambient sounds, you're being stupid and I'm forced to call you a dummy.

You're being stupid by insulting him based on your inability to understand the nuance of his English.

"Fix"

1.
to repair; mend.

2.

to put in order or in good condition; adjust or arrrange:

She fixed her hair in a bun.

3.

to make fast, firm, or stable.

The Silencer was not working the way silencers are intended to work, therefor it was broken. It never worked. It was always broken. It needs to be fixed. It was removed until it will be fixed to work the way it was intended.
