Shotgun still a mess

Recommended Posts

Shotgun is still a buggy mess.  Still can't eject shells, still leaving a single impact.  The patch notes say the damage was tweaked, which I think it means it was lowered as I hit a guy with a shot that would have likely killed him last patch, but only broke his arm this patch (I heard him complaining after he killed me).

Zeroing seems to affect it more as well, I missed a shot I would have confidently hit last patch as my shot went too high (we're talking like 15m here, on a stationary target).  I'm thinking you're best off zeroing down to 50 now for close range (normal range).  Not that it doesn't make sense I guess, but it defaults to 100 and before 100 resulted in being straight on at these ranges any ways.  Just something to be mindful of I guess.

Any ways, the shotgun last patch was borderline overpowered, doing very high damage but with drawbacks.  Now dmg is seemingly lower with the same drawbacks, which is disappointing.  I just want the thing fixed to back how it was before it got broken to begin with, shooting a proper spread and reloading properly.  The double barrel has been one of my favorite guns since the mod.

What's everyone else's experience so far?

Well, the sawed off works like a charm....

Has already claimed 2 victims...

Stats are still the same. You're full of placebo, m8.

Effective range for a full size shotgun is around 60m.

Sawed-off is around 35m.

These are the approx ranges you can get that one OP pellet to hit a torso hitbox around 2 ft wide.

You're best zeroing down to 50m and using the dot to aim. The gun misses past those ranges because of high dispersion.

So the notes were a lie?  I don't doubt you and I didn't spend a lot of time with it yet, it just felt off.

Also, if you're referring to the floating dot, I recommend never aiming with that as it's not actually representative of where you shoot.  I do often hip fire and have a good feel for it, but I have to remind my friends a lot when they bitch about how they were aiming with the dot and missing, or their bullets were being obstructed by something, that it's not actually meant to be a crosshair for your guns.

Now it is in fact a representation of where you are aiming for melee, but with firearms you generally want to aim a bit lower and to the right.

Here's an image I posted in the last shotgun thread actually to show what I mean.

Notice my dot is actually above and left of him.

If you're referring to the front sight of the shotgun itself (which is sorta dot like in appearance) then never mind all that, but I'm very used to aiming that way as well.

Pretty much. I looked at the dispersions and the damage rating. They're the same.

This is sad News...id hoped the boomstick finaly had some use again :/

Well don't count it out yet.  I mean it is a mess in terms of bugginess, but it doesn't mean it's useless.  Especially if the damage is actually the same as last patch.

Give it some tries and see how it goes, so we can all get a better idea of how useful it is right now.  That was the main purpose of this thread is to gain other perspectives as well.

I usually use the dot in 1PP because the sawed-off shotgun might have misaligned sights. It's not as long as the full one yet the scoped stance is the same.

I mean it's definitely close, and in 9/10 situations it will work, I just generally discourage relying on it among my friends because it can also get you in trouble if you're not aware that it isn't a completely accurate representation, and they have bitched some times when it results in them missing =P

The devs also supposedly want to remove it, so for me personally, I try not to get attached to it.  I generally just "feel" for that sweet spot instead.

But the important thing is to do what works for you.

There's a difference between the Dot in 3rd person and the Dot in 1st person.. 1st person is much closer to an accurate representation of where your shots "could" go, but it's still off by a little bit.. At close/medium range it doesn't matter much as long as you're aiming at center mass. I've got plenty of kills this way, as it's more "agile" than aiming down sight.. But yes, ADS is the most accurate, where 3rd person hip firing is the least accurate. 1st person hip firing is somewhere inbetween.

I rarely used the shotgun and when I did I found a hacksaw and shortened it. I'd put it in my bag and use it for zombies only but I got stuck in a situation where I had to use it on a person and it didnt feel as strong as it should've been and the pellet spread was completely narrow. Though I won the shootout I had to part ways with the shotgun out of disappointment. What do you guys think of the shotgun? I'd love to see them add a pump shotgun in the game!

The shotgun that is in the game right now is not worth it, the spread is ridiculous and it takes about 2-3 shots to kill zeds and about 3-4 to kill a person point blank, if you shoot a person at close range with even the sawed off version they will make a moan/eek and there's a 5% chance that their legs will break and there's also another 2% chance that they will start bleeding and the other 93% they will run around freely probably saying "FRIENDLY OEMGHERHGAD". Of course most of this will happen on a full server, mainly because of de-sync and server side lag, hope this helps :)

I would have to disagree. Almost every infected i encountered was felled in ONE shot and no more than one shot. If your shooting in 3RD person that could be the case. But if you go FPS when shooting and use the aim option with the shotgun you do much more accurate and greater damage with the long barrel version.

The shotgun is broken but not useless.  It's still shooting one pellet but the damage is high.  You can't eject shells which is very annoying.  It's a mess but last patch it was borderline overpowered, and supposedly the damage hasn't actually changed contrary to the patch notes.  It did feel off to me this patch, which I made a thread about, but I need to spend more time with it before any real conclusions.

I can agree that the shotgun needs some work.

I think it should be the ultimant CQC defense weapon, hard to miss with and does a fair amount of damage.

Right now its harder to hit someone with it than the crap fireaxe/new melee system.

I keep a sawed off shotgun in my backpack incase I ever get held up, so I can drop my m4 and then pull that sucker out and hopefully hit what I aim at.

Hmmmm, just recently dropped a fully geared player at NW with a sawed off from 5 meters. Everything on him was ruined, but he was totally and completely dead.

I think the shotguns are great.
