Mosin burlap wrap with grass

Recommended Posts

some tweakage is needed.

Why not the following:

find the shore of a lake and use mud on the stripes to darken them. Like you can add grass...

Problem solved. Also as Khanarac pointed out, it is covering vital parts of the gun that actually make it a ,duh, gun :D

Gunkin up a gun...noiceeee. We should be able to spray paint it like we can with the rifle itself

Wow. Nice 'camoflauge'! Those brilliant white stripes totally won't give us away like a flare at midnight. The burlap strips need to be much thinner, and much darker. Preferrably slightly more green/beige like the original burlap models. Also, some way to cover up the scope (not the ends you look through, just the large black mass) would be appreciated. I do understand that in reality this would prevent you from making zeroing adjustments, but then again in reality you could cut holes in your burlap or simply remove it while you make adjustments.

All these claims and only close up shots. Why not have one guy lay in a snipe spot among tall grass and have another guy 200+ meters away and then lets see if it blends or sticks out?

Indeed, we did just that. My friend was indeed very hard to see!

But the gun wasn't... When he removed the wrap, he blended in much more although due to the way the ArmA engine renders things at distances, it is impossible to be truly hidden at range. Character models have much higher detail than their surroundings, even more so than the leaves on a bush or the stones in a wall. Back in ArmA 2, at close range, a ghillie crouching in a bush was quite hard to see, but at long ranges he might as well be wearing bright pink. And this is still the case. I believe this effect is slightly compensated for by raising terrain at distances so that the character sinks into the ground a little, but nonetheless it doesn't hide the entire model and that which is not hidden is very obvious. If the entire model was hidden, then we could wear a medic uniform and still be invisible at 300m and that is most undesirable, so a simple solution may be to decrease texture quality on characters or increase the texture quality of the environment. I think decreasing the character detail at range would be far more FPS friendly, considering even some people with high-end computers suffer minor frame drops (especially in cities). However, this entire solution can be circumvented somewhat by a player altering his or her texture quality/detail in the Video settings. So... yeah. Snipers, beware: There is no such thing as invisible! ...at least not yet.

But, again, I can't help but say that the new items/clothing as of late seems to be too... clean.

Just spitting ideas here, what if its a precurser to items being able to become dirty? The same way the new bandanas are able to be done up as face masks as that feature came available? I'm also thinking the recent removal of rotten fruit could be a precurser to fruit rotting over time. This of course is speculation, just spitballing.

I like that these kinds of things are being added, though personally I don't use it as the colour of the burlap sticks out too much and covers the iron sights. The model could be improved as an artist finds time (as it covers the rifle's action completely), and the functionality could be added to other weapons which would be sweet.

In addition to that it's made kinda illogical. There is no visible strings or anything to attach the sack and the sack covers the chamber of the gun and the lever to reload but not the frontal part of the scope, where there are no instruments for zeroing or anything for your hands.. Seriously? Whoever made this didn't care or didn't know that guns eject bulletcasings.

Have you never wrapped anything cylindrical before? You don't need to attach it, friction of the fabric on itself holds it in place. You should also try considering with the high fidelity of other assets that this is a placeholder item. Take a step back, and relax. Chris Torchia is the art lead, meaning he very likely has a hand in all the assets in the game. He also appears quite aware of how firearms work.

Stating an opinion without going on the offensive is possible, please try it in the future.

Personally, I think it's just a lack of coordination with some of the artists. Not out of incompetence or anything like that. Just like painters have different styles, but it just shows in-game when certain items (of clothing specifically) just clash because they're rendered differently.

But yes, I would like it if they had things get dirty.

Everything is too clean. All things when they're pristine look like you pulled them directly out of a plastic bag at the local factory.

The damaged look of all clothing and items should replace pristine.

Why?  We're not more than a month into the apocalypse based on the fresh oranges laying around.  Clothes should still look nice if they were stored halfway decently in a drawer, let alone brand new hanging at a store.

Based on all the ultra rusty cars we're not. The setting is prone to change at this point so I wouldn't base any arguments on how long it's been since the start, yet.

It was just my opinion, it wasn't in its own thread in the suggestions sub forum. Most pristine condition clothing I haven't found packed away in a store, but left on the ground at residential buildings emptied out of pretty much everything else.

Don't like how loose the wrap is around the gun, would prefer it more like this so the iron sights can still be used

As it is it just looks like it would fall off pretty easily as you were running around.

Yeah, it's a little white, I like the idea some people had of rubbing it in mud or something, like how you can add grass.  I think there needs to be more grass added as well, imo.

I really don't like though, that it obscures the iron sights, though that could be a balancing feature, because your obviously turning the weapon into a pure sniper rifle if your camo-ing it. idk.

Another thing, I'm not sure if people noticed, but I think the wrap actually bugs the mosin's damage, making it hit like a sporter.   Watched Jam Jar's stream the other day, and hit a guy 4 times in the chest and he didn't go down, with the wrapped mosin.  (the guy later went down after 2 more shots from KDWolf with the new Carbine)

Off Topic: With the addition of fishing hooks on boonies, and the grass added to the wrap, I could see them start making it possible to add shrubbery to boonie hats in the future too.
