Tips please

Hi All,

 

I haven't played for about 3 months but tonight, my mate and I are going back into DayZ. Obviously I've been keeping up on the forums so I'm not entirely clueless but I know I'm missing a ton of information on playing can give you.

 

My Character has an M4, I pulled it from the hands of a guy I shot in the head at the NWAF months ago and I should have an SKS too. The rest of my gear is pretty good also.

 

So any tips for all the new things now in the game you can help me out with?

They took bullet damage all the way out.

There are a couple of new towns. Novo is probably the most hostile of the new places!

Six months. Hmmm. Have the police stations and clinics been around that long? (I dont think they have)
Anyhow, if they haven't they are in most major cities and some of the smaller towns. Good source of loot and firearms, but usually high risk areas.
You'll know the police stations as they are very distinct. A yellow two or three story building with a small round tower ontop.

Check police car trunks for loot. Sometimes you can grab ammo, a pistol, clips, clothes. Good times!

You can cut trees down now if you have an axe. It's good to do this for sticks to make splints from.

The little hunter shacks in the woods sometimes have and assortment of loot in them which can include firearms, crossbows, tents, and other such things.

Barns also sometimes spawn firearms

Scouting a high traffic area before entering it can save your life. 2-5 minutes of observation could reveal someone changing positions or even a looter victim you might trail track and kill.

Chemlights and flares have been added. They make suprisingly good traps. People seem to be drawn to them. Like moths to my axe--er the flame.

You can use stone to repair axes to a pristine state (presumably you're sharpening them?)

You can hold down G to throw items---Be wary of this when holding a firearm, as they will often disappear if you accidently throw them!

Well you can hunt now, so if you've got an axe, machete and matches between you, you can cook yourselves some steaks, couple of rasputins. Have a little welcome back party....

The new loot system works in a bit of an odd way now ,you'll find a lot of police stations with just cans of food. It's more dynamic so when good stuff gets taken, it'll take a while for it to return. Server resets do not seem to influence loot tables much. Sometimes loot pops into existence right next to you.

 

Zombies are harder to hit atm and there are crawlers.

 

Other than that, nothing special I believe.

Oh, M4 doesn't spawn any more and neither does ammo. Don't spend it all in one place.

Did you know you can cut down trees? Go fishing?

Or at the very least, you can get shot in the face while attempting to find an ashwood tree from which to craft a fishing rod. Or, if that fails, get shot in the face trying to find a fishing lure.

Afterwards, you can get shot in the face while attempting to find an elusive magic-pig from which to craft a backpig. Pack. Then you can go see the sights in Novo, get shot in the face, check out some police car trunks or possibly get shot again while chasing a goat with an axe (chasing it with an axe. The goat doesn't have an axe. Yet).

Oh and looting got more interesting imo, less easy to get good loot. I'm hearing rumors it'll be even better once current experimental hits stable servers.
