Yeah but, Is the Standalone eventually going to get more things in it? Plus it's not point me getting the mod if I can't play it.

For sure the mod honestly, in terms of performance the standalone isn't full optimized and on 32 bit so even high end gaming rigs have issues fully getting the FPS they want.

The standalone runs out of the Arma 2 Engine which isn't too bad performance wise.

Yes the standalone will get more things added to it, it's only in alpha at the moment so there is much room to work with. Optimization doesn't come until towards finalizing the game.

Standalone has much better performance then the mod.

But again Standalone don't has ~700 zombies running around on 55 players servers like the mod.

For me, ArmA 2 lags less purely because It's better optimized.

Are you talking about lag or performance because those are different things.

The SA suffers more from lag/desync and connection sort of issues as nearly everything is done through the server, which means you'll see guys sliding around and performing weird animations and get less responsiveness in your actions many times.

The mod performs many tasks clientside so you experience less of that.

Performance wise I feel like the mod is less graphically intense, but neither game runs as well as you'd expect it to.  Generally I think you get better frames/performance on the mod.

I'm talking about FPS Lag, And Yeah I thought the SA Would have less lag as it doesn't have as much stuff, But I guess that's not the case.

In your place, I would get the Standalone. Why? It is constantly improving and by the time it is finished, it will be a much better game than the Mod in every aspect.

Fps wise, there is NO difference between the MOD and the SA. They can both lag in the cities. They can both run at a nice 60fps away from cities. It is just when they lag, they lag for different reasons. The Mod because of tons of stuff, players and zombies and the SA because it is in not-optimized pre-alpha state. BUT the SA will get optimized to run better as time progresses, and the MOD has probably reached it's peek.

Post your laptop's specs and we will tell you how good the game is going to run.

It has more stuff really.  There's a ton more enterable buildings and especially objects.  Character models, skeletons and animations are all more complex.

The only thing it has less of is zombies, but the zombies it does have are also more detailed.

The mod is more demanding for my pc than the standalone, and since you said you have a crappy laptop, i'd go for the standalone. Also, the standalone will have more stuff in and work better than the mod, so it's simply the better option in the long run.

Mod, especially DayZero.

You might get better performance in SA compared to mod server with 1000 spawned zombies and a buttload of vehicles, but on the other hand SA server in such situation would just melt your PC.

4GB RAM

Intel® Core i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.0GHz

nVidia GeForce 540m

32bit

Next week- Adding 4 more GB RAM + Upgrading to 64BIT. So 8GB Ram

When you upgrade you should be flying. Only chokepoint I see is the graphic card. Since I am no expert on GeForce cards, can someone pitch in?

As far as I understand geforce 540m is around radeon 6700 range.

Its always a crap shoot when it comes to running RV games my best guess with your hardware it will be low to medium settings ( some low or off some medium, experiement to find what works best for you Dont forget to do some changing in the CFG file like view distance scene complexity and some start up parameters may help a LITTLE bit)

But all that considered id say 20's in cities and mid 40's in the wild so playable just not fantastic the problem with either the mod or the SA is it is cpu heavy and not the best multithreaded so single core performance is kinda key. But hey you may get lucky and it runs it better than that i have seen some low specs blaze through the SA quite well and i have seen some decent rigs tank the game..

The 540m is not an amazing gpu its base scores for G3D mark is around 700 ( to give you an idea a gtx 750 ti which is a cheap desktop card is around 4000 for the same test. but i believe it will run it just at lower settings dont expect it to be fantastic..

Edit radeon 6700 has a G3D mark of around mid 900's so its a bit better but not alot..

8GB will help you with the Mod i guess, 64bit won't make that much difference since the Mod only runs at 32bit. But is the CPU what may be a problem for you, 2.00Ghz is a bit low this days... and the graphic card isn't that good neither.

Some people consider an FPS drop to be lag, but really it isn't technically. Lag is internet connection/latency related.
FPS drops causing similar visual effect when your hardware isn't so great and/or the game isn't optimized.

I firmly believe there is no such thing as a gaming laptop.

So.... Get a desktop

Except there's one issue with simplifying it as much as you have: in the case of DayZ SA, a lot of activity takes place on the server itself and is then sent to the player... meaning game performance is affected significantly by connection speed (both at the server and at the client PC) and not just by the player's hardware. The game behaves VERY differently for me depending on where I play it and what kind of connection I have at those places.

As for the laptop comment: just stop. I'm not going to argue with you, but if you're looking to start an argument then I'll just report you. Making anti-laptop comments will accomplish nothing except starting a flame war, and I'll leave it at that.
