Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?

Recommended Posts

Treat anyone you see as just another Bandit without their weapons. They were probably just killed and of course will be super friendly, until you have something they need. The name of the game is survival, and we do this through looting. So if you see ANYONE they are a threat to your survival. Even if not directly, they are competing over the same stuff. I only pal around with people I meet on reddit, here or regular friends that play. Anyone else i avoid or kill if given ample opportunity.

I'm friendly, I've just learned to avoid other players that aren't part of our group.

I am somewhat new to the game, about 48 hours or so playing time, and I have had many encounters with people, more with people than zombies, and have yet to find one single person that doesn't end up killing me. (Excluding the people that have freshly spawned). I will see people and I can EASILY EASILY kill them if I wanted. I'll catch people looting a car with their back turned. Opening a door, eating food and looking the other way. I have had SO SO SO many chances to kill people, but I have yet to kill ANYONE without being damaged myself.

Like just today I went to airstrip and saw a guy running from zombies, I saved him and he was weaponless. Well, me being nice I let him get a gun out of the building, because quite frankly I was way better equipped and the weapon was rather useless to me. I made sure to keep my gun lowered and let him have his space and what not. Well, Next thing I know he is laying on the floor in a room i go in and he shoots be breaking my leg and then runs out of ammo and I end up having to kill him. Or another time a guy with just a garden hoe attacks me and I said multiple times I will not shoot, my gun lowered and everything, I even offered to help him get started and he just charges me and i end up having to kill him too.

I mean, I rarely die from the people that try killing me, but it's the concept of me saving them or obviously having all the chance in the world to just kill em there and choose not to and it seems EVERYONE still tries to kill me -_- Am I the only one that just seems to have this bad of luck with meeting people or should I just quit being nice, because quite frankly I am about to just start killing on sight(Excluding fresh spawns and weaponless of course) because it seems anyone with anything to hit you with, even if it's a measly shovel will try to kill you -_-.

I'm only a bandit if you have nice gear <3

I try to be friendly as a gerneral rule. I'm usually on the Australian servers and have encountered a few friendlies. Usually a case of the 2 of us running into each other and freeze ( I'm new to these games and seeing a "real person" can still freak me out a bit - 70hr of game time so far ). The other players have generally been better equipped than me and have asked if I needed anything... Whether I do or not, my usual response is "no I'm fine" and we have parted company..... Communication for me is only through direct chat atm as I need to get a working mic.

While looting a military base a player came up behind me and shot me. When I came to he actually said sorry and patched me up before taking off..... Still got shot by bandits about 10min later.

But I have killed..... Had just resporned and was coming down a hill into a large town and saw some player and zombie activity in the distance. After coming down slowly and looting a fire station, I was heading to the cop shop and came across 2 players fighting ( they didn't see me). They were both much better equipped than me, both having guns, but one eventually died. I peeked over the wall I was hiding behind and the live player was just standing there (prob going through inventory or something). I figured this guy had killed before and would do the same to me so I snuck up behind him and axed him in the head.

I've made a few mistakes as well - was stalked by (what I thought was a single bandit) so set up an ambush.... Got the kill but was also trigger happy and emptied my whole clip into the guy.... Only to be capped by him mate a few seconds later because I didn't reload fast enough.

Another time I was shot by a guy who started shouting (was only a glancing wound as I was still conscious) but I panicked and run for cover... He shot me dead. Don't know how it would have ended if I had stopped and put hands up but I guess he did what I would have done and shot dead a player running for cover to shoot back.... Was real angry as I had been packing a fully bombed AK and never even used it for a single shot.

Want to try teaming up with someone eventually when I get a bit better.

I mean, personally I want to be friendly and all, but that's hard to do when you help someone out and they end up shooting you in the back. I don't WANT to be one of those guys that KOS, but about 80 hours of game time and yet to meet someone who doesn't take me help then attempt to kill me anyway is annoying. I've met 2 people that have been anything but hostile.

One, we were both fresh spawns and we ran around together boxing zombies. made it pretty far. Till server restarted. Second guy i met in airfield. He saw i OBVIOUSLY had him dead and he put his hands up and i lowered my weapon and gave him a drink, bandage and a blood transfusion and he in return gave me a hefty amount of m4 ammo because he had a mosin and we went our separate ways.

Bro,it's quite obvious people will kill you to survive,I'm one of the many people you can trust if I get DayZ.I can't afford it.Someone can find a free download or a steam code I will do anything for you.Get you loot, stay friendly, anything,I promise. It's just a wish that I get DayZ.I feel sorry for myself that I don't have a great game like this...It's completely awesome...I wish I can have it...Please anyone can be a good guy and tell me a way to get it for free/give me a steam code...

yea I remember when I was a friendly player many moons ago. Now I SOS and have no remorse about it. All to often I have been shot in the back, knocked out and ambushed by so call friendly players. Now with a little over 400 hours in, if the people are not in my clan, I don't take any chances I blow yer azz away lol. My clan guys are the only ones I protect thats just how it is.

Amen, brother, Amen.

Used to be super friendly myself, but I've had far too many instances of people betraying and killing me. Usually safer to just kill on sight if the person is geared. Berezino has become a warzone these days, so EVERYONE there is fair game in my eyes. I've had bambis distract me while their buddies setup shots. They try to lure you with tales of woe and then BAM! You can hear them laughing through their mics.

Having said the above, I deeply respect the players who continue to play friendly. You're taking one hell of a risk, and you're making someone smile at the end of the day. If/When someone decides to turn on you and take your life, I hope it doesn't spoil your good nature like it has mine.

You're damn right that's my cake LOL!! I'm glad there are assholes in DayZ, honestly it's what makes running into other people so interesting. If you DO meet someone cool that makes it even better.

back on topic: Yes, there are friendly players in DayZ-SA.

obviously, the percentage or concentration per server is variable. the point, i think, is that the game gives credence to the freedom of heroic actions or banditry. its up to you.

i log into the game with this notion: its a game. its in alpha. while most of us have paid for early access... it is not for everyone. especially at this stage.

if you want to run around, looting the same spots for hours a day, getting some incrementally superior loot to the things you looted yesterday, that is your right.

if you want to kill other players for their loot, that is also your right.

do you really see yourself doing that for the next year or so?  each update, might give you access to some better gun... to what end?

oh but that player has a M4 with a scope and i want that scope... ok great. now you got that scope... now what? on to the next victim? ad infinitum?

personally, i have never killed a person in game. i only kill zombies. even then i try to avoid anything that moves regardless.

every time i have been killed on sight, i heave a heavy sigh and lament, but thats about it. every time i come back, i seemed to have gotten

more loot [and better quality] each time.

the way i see it, is that people with the passion to play a certain way, will find each other, and everyone else will simply be filling servers with users of their own type.

theres a reason why its easy to be a 'kill everybody' asshole and why people like Frankieon1080p have millions of subscribers following their exploits on DayZ.

i.e. being a dick is easy. being a hero is not.

there is a relevant notion here about turning your enemy into your friend from the art of war... but i digress.

i postulate this: when everyone kills on sight, eventually the server is just PvP, why bother even playing a zombie-survival game? you dont really want to survive, you just want to battle other humans...

there are places for that... e.g. not DayZ

i think there is a certain mania to a person that likes fucking with players. while the game is, ostensibly, escapism at its best, there is something

about the idea that, just recently, ive seen servers with specific entitling to the notion of NO PVP or LETS ALL GET ALONG...

which seems to be an inevitable way to invite KoS douchehats. [sigh]

at the end of the day, people like me, with a certain playing style can and will be able to afford our own servers and limit this behavior.

and everyone that enjoys being killer assholes, can continue being killer assholes, whilst be devoid of any quality that might have otherwise been garnered through a gaming style divergent to the 'omg its a game, lets kill everybody' -rhetoric.

tl;dr

when the game releases, people like me will, hopefully, be able to play, while keeping all the assholes out. thereby being able to afford a high quality experience through means and connections.

solution:

money and private servers will solve all these issues. at the end of the day, you are just pissing off real people, wasting their time and money.

so these same people will go off on their own thing, leaving assholes to play with other assholes.

problem solved.

I'm generally friendly, but I've been on the receiving end of unfriendlys too many times. I will go into a confrontation with my gun at low ready; and if possible I will try to sneak up and get the drop on someone. At that point we do the exchange and I try to make a gut decision about how it's going to go. I've met some good people that way, and a few not so much. Luckily, those "not so much" times were no longer a problem.

The latest was a guy that didn't say anything. I waved, he gave me the finger. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he just hit the wrong key, but alas it wasn't to be. So I shot him in the face.

I really enjoy the option of helping people. I was just leaving Berezino with a friend (actually someone who I met by getting the drop on him) and lightly geared woman was in trouble. It looked like she was trying to attack the zombie with a chemlight. At any rate, she went unconscious. I was unsuccessful at reviving her, but maybe the player had a little more faith in his/her fellow players after that.

I posted this before on my Worst Deaths thread. I was literally almost dead from starvation. I have a .22 rifle, no ammo, and a silenced pistol with one chambered round. I fired my shot into the air, begging for someone around me to give me food. I make it to the air strip south of Novo. I go to the air control tower, expecting to be shot. Instead, three heavily-armed, possibly duped, friendlies were taking shelter from snipers. They told me to get inside. As soon as I did, I collapsed. They attempted to force feed me, but it was too late...

tl;dr

they exist

A guy walked in on me earlier in a house, he was unarmed and I had a machete in my hand. We watched each other for a minute then he went his way and I went mine. Best outcome, in my opinion, so I think that makes me friendly. Usually though I just try to avoid people.

Honestly, I wish you lot wouldn't use the eff word so much.  I cannot understand why you can't just give each other a hug and play nicely.  You know, I'm the one sitting here getting report after report when some outraged member complains about your language.  *tuts and shakes her head*

Depends what mood I'm in...

It's also not as cut and dry as being friendly or not. If you are friendly to me and I feel like you aren't acting shady then I'll be friendly. If you are being weird or rude, or trying to kill me I'm not going to be friendly.

Only a sap would be friendly at all times, in all situations.

To any friendly player or anyone looking for more social aspects: Join a group. Better yet, join a "hero group" or anything close to it. You can find big and small ones in the recruitment section, and I might also point you in the direction of 2-3 specific ones.

I never get to BE friendly. I usually get shot at first and either die, defend myself successfully or book it, depending on the situation. Problem with all those experiences now is that I find it hard to trust. So I won't KoS, but I don't meet anyone without my gun out anymore, which makes them more likely to engage me. A mean cycle.

Just gonna keep being a loner I suppose, except for those rare situations where I run into completely desperate players (bleeding out etc). The group I usually run with is full of trigger happy maniacs, so that's no good for friendly.

People seriously should to stop thinking "being friendly" in DayZ means "meeting a total stranger and immediately go around adventuring together". Being "friendly" means simply you talk a little and keep a fair distance. That's all...if something more happens (trade, tips about best loot nearby, team-up offers) it's entirely a bonus - but don't take it for granted. In order to go further than a simple, polite "hello" people need to trust you. And let's be honest there...as I said in another thread, many people either knowingly or unknowingly act aggressively or suspiciously when they encounter another survivor.

Sprint towards a guy you just met yelling "friendly"? That's aggressive. Failing to keep a fair distance between you and a guy you don't know? That's aggressive. Talking with a a weapon in your hands? That's suspicious. Running around with a camo'ed mosing with compensator and long range scope, or any kind of assault rifle? You're sending a message, and no one cares if it's knowingly or unknowingly - many people will simply shoot you because they don't want to take any chances.

IMHO before crying for friendly behavior and less KoS we should learn how to proper interact with other players.

I'm friendly. Never fired the first shot. Well, I did shoot a few bandits but they shot other people so it's okay.

I'm your friendly neighborhood wookiee so yes. If you see me just don't begin a sentence with "put" or "drop" because I'll start shooting before you can follow it up with "your hands up" or "your weapons on the ground" :o
