Calvin Candie 189 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) I have looked at myself with/without camo and it always seems like I stick out either way Dress a friend. Have him run in front of you - there is a huge difference. Your inventory image is artificialy brighter and 3rd person view is too close. For example. Try wearing a UN helmet at night. That thing GLOWS. Camo is REALLY camo. :) Edited August 6, 2014 by Calvin Candie
James Hawke 114 Posted August 6, 2014 I believe camo does matter. My current regular char wears full camo clothing and more often than not my friend loses sight of me in the forest although I'm right in his field of view, not even five meters away. I have to move for him to actually realise where I am.
Merrick362 (DayZ) 263 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Camoflage is only as effective as the person using it. Colour is only a small part of the scheme. CHAPTER 2FINDING THE ENEMYSECTION 1DETECTIONWHY THINGS ARE SEEN1. The ability to observe effectively is an acquired skill. Things are seen because they contrast with their surroundings in one way or another. There are 11 reasons why things are seen:a. shape; b .shadow;c. silhouette;d. movement;e. spacing;f. position;g. texture;h. colour;i. scale;j. noise; andk. shine. This is a really good read for anyone interested and is very applicable to Dayz.http://www.scribd.com/doc/6141631/Canadian-Military-FieldCraft Edited August 7, 2014 by Merrick362
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Yes and No. If you're running around in a red fireman's outfit you will draw attention. But as said above, it's not particularly effective a defense as you need to lay in the right environment to make your tone blend, and there's a varied environment tone throughout cherno (brown forest, green/yellow grassy hills etc..). Colour is less important than is breaking up your body profile, or restricting the view of potential/enemies from a location.things like boots/helmets/hands and gun are readily recognizable while your side, back or lowered weapons are less so. It's not going to make you the predator. You're still going to need to obscure your vision to target as much as possible through not running along ridges, open fields and sticking to denser cover that reduces the snapshot of players looking at you. That said, hiding in conifers/shrubs is much easier if you have the appropriate tone, but as with any game out there, if you move (sometimes less movement is worse than more) i'm going to see you. I've got a keen eye for it, and i'm guessing lots more of the FPS crowd do too.And as above, if you're playing on ultra low graphics, you're at an advantage to spotting people as they stand out like dogs nuts. Remember when you used to be able to turn 'smoke grenade effects' down to V-low on counterstrike and see through the smoke? yeah, that kind of easy. All this said and done, I found the green raincoat in ruined condition to be a better camo than most mil gear as it's less bright and more neutral with the grey and red tears through it. Also, for beach running, nothing beats beige caravan shorts, red/grey hoodie and yellow checked bandanna. You'd be surprised how easy it is to blend into the dead grassy fields and shrubs with that ghetto kit. Edited August 7, 2014 by q.S Sachiel
krow 8 Posted August 7, 2014 I play as much stealth as possible,Depending on where you want to spend your time hiding, there is camo for most areas, e.g. wooded.Winter camo works best in towns and lighter camo for grassy area's.I have had several close encounters, with players where laying prone in grass without moving has got me through. Some running past quite close.Movement is what gets you noticed more than the camo, but I believe camo definitely helps.
werodar 7 Posted August 7, 2014 Mid to close range depending on your surroundings it does matter. At long range the game makes everybody look like a black stick man so if ur in a field u stick out like a sore thumb Have some beans for your awesome profile pic :P
hotcakes 348 Posted August 7, 2014 People have pretty much covered it all but it doesn't matter a whole lot, especially with people turning their settings really low for maximum advantage. If you're playing on high settings with shadows and all the foliage etc, yeah some camo will be helpful, but as in the mod, I believe most people who are into pvp turn their settings very low and then it becomes much less of a factor. I wish they'd find a compromise for that, but oh well. No, this isn't true. Currently, the terrain setting is locked by the server. The other setting that influences spotting is called Objects Quality. It changes your spotting distance for stuff and consequently also makes players disappear. At very low, players disappear at around 300m to compensate for the reduced foliage. Turning down your settings is a nerf in this game, because it makes you blind.

Try turning trees to all vs turning it to none, or whatever the lowest setting is. The foliage is noticeably less dense by a great degree. Setting your grass on also increases the grass you see. Turning off shadows obviously makes anyone in shadows easier to see. There's multiple settings you can turn down to get an advantage. I personally don't, but many of these settings function the same as they did in the mod.Object detail is pretty much one of the only ones you'd want to keep on high, which is what I implied in this part of my original post:At a distance colors become a bit muddied in terms of clothing, even with object detail set to highest, and the colors you wear don't matter much, you'll look like a bit of a dark blob regardless especially when moving. hombrecz 832 Posted August 7, 2014 I wish that one day Arma/DayZ would draw grass up to atleast 500m and also in optics.
Krawallkurt 118 Posted August 7, 2014 Since most firefights are close calls and not 500m Sniper shotouts i think ill keep my Gorka. Had a lot of Fights where the other player chased me through the pines and lost me cause i huged a tree. Dont think that would have worked sowell i a blue checked and a red mountain backpack. roguetrooper 201 Posted August 7, 2014 is help bevause human eye is notice more the differents of color so yellow jacket on the green wall is easy for seeing but green and brown is same like the nature so if you having militery cloth you are not invisible but is more hard to see you but also wen you is move the human eye see you more easy so find place where is same color of the cloths and stay vary still and most player dont see you Black punctuation on black background is a great camo.
