SamualACarver 7 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) I dont know how it is in Russia or other countries, I would think it was the same but, in The U.S exterior doors on houses open in (into the house). Most modern commercial type buildings do have exterior doors that open out but, houses dont. I am a carpenter I notice things like that. Besides being more realistic it would make it so much easier to enter a house or any building. Especially if your in a hurry (being chased or trying to avoid being seen). Instead of needing to stand in exactly the correct spot or getting pushed out of the way by the door (like it works now) you could open and go straight in much faster. Which between getting in or out of a building in a hurry in Dayz Players usually try to get in faster and dont need to get out as fast. Storm doors and screen doors on houses open out. Exterior doors on commercial or public buildings (more modern buildings with doors that dont have knobs) open out because in case of an emergency people can evacuate the building faster and easier. Imaging running to a door to get out of a burning building and having to pull it in toward yourself instead of just pushing it open. Imaging a whole crowd of people trying to get out. applejaxc 2500 Posted August 6, 2014 Residential areas open in, but just about everything else (in the US) opens out after that nightclub caught fire. Everyone was so crammed against the door no one could pull it open and a hundred something burned to death.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted August 6, 2014 They're called International Building Codes for a reason (though you always go with the more strict rule) and there's all sorts of stipulations (IE a Hotel room opens inward to keep the hallway from being blocked, but public rooms would have to open outward). This has been brought up before, I can't remember what the consensus was but I would guess the doors open outward in game because in the mod players would get their legs broken or even killed when they got caught between a wall and door when it swung open and they never got around to fixing/changing it. King Raptor 191 Posted August 6, 2014 They just need beter functioning doors. Being pushed away is indeed annoying.
Evil Minion 943 Posted August 6, 2014 OP is right - usually residential homes will have exterior doors that open into the house while official buildings will have doors that open out (or in both direction). The reason is the different purpose of those doors: Homes are build for getting in and handling from the inside. You simply have more control over your own door if it opens in and you don't have to leave your home in order to move the door. Official buildings are build with escape in mind. If a panicked group of humans tries to get out they are more likely to push than to pull (and sometimes pressure from behind makes it impossible to pull at all). A convenient side effect is that groups of people have a harder time getting into them by sheer pressure as well (if you want this - some buildings avert this by doors that open in both directions). On the other side control and handling from the inside is a non-factor because those buildings are meant to be visited by many different people.
doctajones 123 Posted August 6, 2014 Agreed. I think I heard that doors would be reworked eventually to even the point of gradient usage (idk how to word it). Basically, you can open or close a door as much or as little as you want, aka crack it open to peak inside or leave it half closed when you leave.Doors also need to have SOUNDS when they open and close. This could tie in with the above change as opening a door slowly wouldn't make much noise, while flinging it open will slam against a wall
