[Discussion] Melee, Zombies and Item Swapping Issues

Since a Mod though it would be funny to move this discussion to troubleshooting, when its a discussion on certain bugs, i had to repost the Discussion here again, please mods read before moving posts.

 

Anyway on with the issue!

 

Right who is having issues with the current build when using melee weapons?

 

I had 3 zombies on me and was using a fireaxe, could hardly hit them, I had to stand still and bendover slightly just to get a accurate hit on them, this when I was in a gun fight with 5 other players, normally I would have no issues but I only killed 2 out of 5 of them, 1 disappeared and 2 I was tracking to kill. (they killed my teamate, hence I was out for blood)

 

Now half my gear is ruined due to these bugs, I also had the new working weapons bug, had to relog, this is when I had a shot on someone, they should of fixed these issues being putting it on the stable branch, this is no way useable. to me I believe dayz is now bugged,

 

I also thrown my AKM with all attentments and a drum bag due to the G changes, had to remove the command from my control options.

 

I feel as if this has broken DayZ SA for me, I do understand this is still a game in testing but you would think the expermential would still be for longer before adding these new features.

 

But I don't want to be trying to kill a zombie with a axe with the hit area size of a tea cup....

Anyway, as I have said on my older post the swapping issue right now is annoying, being chased by a zombies and my character stops to swap to my axe that has a hitting range of a jelly baby, anyone found way around this?

Wow,  getting pretty fiesty with the mods!

 

Since the patch I've taken on 4 zeds at once with no issue - you absolutely MUST be accurate with meelee now. Before the patch so long as I was generally facing a zed I would hit it, now I must be spot on and even lead the target a little it seams. It took some adjusting but I wouldn't in any way call it broken. I think it's better to be honest, it's almost as if the game assist mode has been turned off.

I'm not really sure if I understand why they made it HARDER to kill incredibly glitchy zombies...

 

I mean its almost like they're trying to make up for the lack of them and how ineffective they are as part of the game by simply making them harder to kill, which I think will lead to a lot of frustration down the road. And I don't mean harder to kill in the good challenging way, but harder to kill because the mechanics in place MAKE it difficult

So I logged in today ready to start looking for a tent to set up camp. I was running toward a hill holding my decked out AKM.. pressed G to speed run forgetting it was fixed. Accidently threw my AKM into the hill. Spent 30 mins trying to find it on ground. No luck.

 

Kept running and hit a few towns on the way to NWAF.. Found a new camo bandana I opened and turned into face mask.. Put it on and got attacked by zombie. Tried to meele it but kept missing. Finally killed said zombie. He ruined my new bandana though..

 

Reach NWAF and hit the barracks. Found the new CZ rifle. Had ammo..just needed to find a clip for it. Searched the prison and found a clip laying on top floor on the bed bunks. Clip was to far on bed against the wall. Could not reach it and pull it into bag. Tried for 30 mins.

 

Cursed the game for 30 mins. logged..went to work.

I would rather them hit harder and take more hits than not being able to be hit at all...

Same what happined to me, minus the CZ rile, me and my teammate kill 4 out of 5 man team.

 

While trying to kill zombies with our Jellybean Axes.

I actually like the increased challenge though I would rather like the old 0.44 zombies with 0.46 melee targeting. Still better than those laughable 0.46 zombies - and now you got actually a reason to shoot them. Edited by Evil Minion

I still want to melee them just not this way, try hitting something with a axe like a log, not hard and this game is meant to be realistic as possible, hence why melee is broken now.

This, DeatHTaX just hit the nail on the head!

 

There is so meany ways they could make zombies harder, zombies AI different from each other, ones that learned how to open doors, more stronger ones, faster running ones, slower ones, more health before dieing, they could put all these stats and have zombies that spawn in with ransom stats,

 

so not all zombies would require the same tactic or way around them, could also make certain zombie types more sencitive to sound or sigh, also could have some zombies that have night vision, so much possibilitys but they go with "change melee" just to make them annoying now.

Seems like 0.47 are meant to be shot instead of engaged in melee. I can live with that - got tired of that "oh a zombie - casually draws melee weapon - casually hits zombie - casually walks away routine". So now its "shoot them or run" - we all know that from zombie movies.

This will kill stealth though, unless they fix SD attactments, I don't want to use guns on zombies, want to keep players away from me much as possible and not know him here.

Is there any good reason to be this painstakingly accurate with a fire axe? I mean, seriously, can you realistically MISS a target with a fire axe if you're aiming at its chest from about half a meter away? Honestly, I don't think so.

 

My friend had no chance against the zombies with his splitting axe today. Partly because of his relatively high ping (which was no issue before), partly because it just doesn't work right anymore. I had problems with my fire axe too. In the end we both just resorted to wasting ammo on zombies because getting frustrated with the melee didn't sit right with us.

It said in the patch notes that this is a bug, not an intended feature

 

the location that all melee weapons hit is off, so they look like they hit somewhere, and actually hit somewhere else. It's extremely noticeable with fists, you have to hit up and to the right of a zombies head for it to connect (into empty space) - take note of where they're bleeding from and you'll see.

 

I'm sure it'll be fixed along with persistence next week, for now just shoot zombies, and I recommend ditching your fire axe for a splitting axe - the fire axe is so out of sync you can barely get a hit at all, the splitting axe seems to be the least affected melee weapon, it's (pretty much) the same and in fact seems to be one-hit killing zombies sometimes, I rarely miss with it

It always bugged me that the only thing worth shooting was another player. Bug or not zombies are worth shooting now which is nice.

Nope not worth giving your position away, if silent attachments worked then I would agree, also I found the sweet spot for axe'ing zombies, if you look down abit and face slightly left of the zombie it should hit it but still hard.
