I don't even mind the walking so much as I would just enjoy the challenge of assembling a vehicle. Just adds more content and gameplay dynamics

Answers like this deserve a stickied thread... because the questions aren't going away.

Good point.

And this helps explain why we have 12 new guns but they have not been able to fix any of the silencers that are still broken.     All of the additions to Dayz are mostly from art.... very little programming.   But doesn't that worry anyone that very little programming has been done?

Programming is being done though. Nav mesh, new renderer, persistent loot, loot respawn, changing game engine, 64 bit servers.... All of these things require programming teams to work on them.

There's little point in putting in vehicles when there is no persistent loot because you'll lose it on server reset. Also little point when the servers are struggling with zombies and players. Far better to optimise server performance (or at least improve it) and start work on persistent items so that the car you've spent 4 hours trying to fix up is still there when the server resets.

Rome wasn't built in a day and dayz won't be fully ready in a few months. It's going to be a long, hard slog of bugs, mistakes and glitches before it has all the features added.

LOL.

Then what are they doing with 50 million dollars in sales?

Not even going to dignify that with a response. Well, yeah, I am.

Try piling a bunch of money on top of a Ferrari, does it make it go any faster? Or, pay the driver that money and tell him to go faster than 500 mph. See if that's possible too.

I don't work code.

But suppressor function is tiny.

Here you are asking about vehicles--okay, cool, You wanna know about something major.

But any intelligent dev is going to work big to small. Thats just what makes sense. Something like suppressors, global noises, etc. These are small things.

Sure the alpher gavel gets pounded a lot. But it's a damn good gavel, and the shoe fits. Alpha is for big things, beta is for little things.

Thats gotta be some kind of forum points for euphemisms.

Well on one hand I do agree with you, Katana. But I am inclined to understand where he's coming from. On one hand you can't spend too much of that money on the game because then your profit margin is out the window...but what really ARE they doing with the money to maximize production and efficiency on the project?

I think it would be a cool concept if the devs shared their expenditures with the community. Not that I think something like that should be mandatory, but would just be really interesting to see

There's a finite limit to the amount of progress that can be made at any given time. It's like expecting the US government to already have interstellar travel, simply because they have trillions.

Money doesn't buy progress. And it certainly doesn't by quicker progress.

$50 million ain't making Star Citizen come any quicker.

something the mod implemented 2 years ago.

The mod did not implement vehicles at all, the vehicles were allready available through Arma 2 OA,

The only thing really big about the mod was the hive mechanic, the zombies and the few survival stuff there is, the rest was pretty much pre-implemented in arma

Hmm I do understand what you're saying, but I will respectively disagree. Well money in the right hands, if well managed, and spent effectively, can definitely increase efficiency and production of a product.

However, I must admit, my opinion is lacking the interior knowledge of the workings on the dev team and how they allot their time and finances

Why do people want bikes when you run as fast as them?

Sorry I didnt explain that you take money and buy more help with it. I will try to be more specific next time.

We are running 25 mph? I dont think so. And we want bikes because 1. They wont need parts like a car, and 2. It may be easier to make for the alpha so we can get it before 2015.

I cant wait until these people see the requirements to actually get a vehicle moving.

I also disagree. In economics it is agreed upon that there is a top level of skilled people in their field. That is why NFL players or top musicians can make obscene pay. Because their skills are scarce. Somewhere in korea, japan, uk, etc...there are people brighter or faster than me that can solve problems quicker. So it is possible to take part of the millions in Dayz sales and recruit the brightest talent who could fast track the game. But they have every right not to seek out and pay them.

30 kph actually as confirmed by the devs, so not quite but close.

Also, how do you know they won't need parts?  Maybe they'll need wheels, chains, pedals who knows?

If I hire sixty people to screw in a lightbulb, it isn't going to get done any faster than if I just hire one person.

Likewise, if I pay that one person $60,000 dollars... or pay 60 people $1000 dollars, said lightbulb isn't going to get screwed in any faster.

To say nothing of doing things well (which is what's really important, and has always been a stated emphasis of the devleopers vice a "now, now, now" approach).

Again, there's a finite limit to what people can do. No matter how much you pay them.

People who say "very little programming has been done" are always

always .. always

people who don't do programming.

Ya know? Tell me what you do for a living and I'll tell you why you aren't doing it fast enough.

The programming - you don't see it with your eyes when you play the game.. it's like The Matrix, ok ?

When you say 'very little programming has been done' how are you gauging that statement?

Just curious given there are constant code and functionality updates coming through.
