What is the difference between "Worn" and "Pristine" (Clothing ONLY)

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry, but no clothing in DayZ acts like a condom. So no protection at all.

There might be a slight difference, but I'm not so sure.

Worn clothing is closer to being ruined, I think that's the only difference at this stage.

Well, there are "ruined", "badly damaged", "damaged", "worn" and "pristine". Pristine literally means, that it was never worn. It is a new item. But yet we find them on the dirtiest places and once worn, clothes do not get the status worn automatically. While some clothes, being damaged or badly damaged, can be upgraded to worn with the sewing kit, they will never reach pristine. Once they are ruined, they cannot mended with the sewing kit. Just take pristine for the highest status clothes can have. Maybe in the future there will be some effect for them being pristine. Currently there is no visible difference.

As bizarre as this may sound, but worn underwear is worth more than pristine/new.

But yes, what Max said is also correct.

Pristine is brand new. Coming out from the store, still in its box, nobody never uses it...

Worn is mean the item has been used already even if it have no degradation, hole or damage. It is not as new as when it left the shop...

Well, then damaged, badly damaged and ruined are quite clear.

What are the disadvantages for keeping badly damaged and ruined clothing?

Some of it can be repaired with the sewing kit, some turned into rags. Nothing else, I think.

Basically, Pristine provides the most protection, with ruined/nothing being about the same.  The results seems rather linear from pristine>worn>damaged>badly>ruined=nothing. Also, clothing type doesn't seem to matter.  Although wearing a chest piece like a assault vest provides extra protection.

Note that these small sample sizes means it could just be randomization, so take it with a grain of salt, but I mean it makes sense from a logical point of view.

Ruined is worthless as far as I can tell. Badly damaged clothing can be fixed with a sewing kit and brought back to the state of worn. Badly damaged Shirts can be torn into rags and you can use these for splints, bandages, kindle, ... rag bandages can be brought back to the state of worn with alcohol, to give you clean bandages.

I heard that there will be a higher risk of sickness and illness depending on the state of clothing and bandages in the future, so it's now a good idea to start getting used to the various mechanics to repair and clean clothing.

Try putting a 'buffer' item to increase the durability of your clothing (1-2 shots at best) such as small container, ammo box, med kits or even cooking wares. I tried getting shot at and my chest piece still in Pristine condition while my small container is ruined along with all the stuff in it. Better then dead i suppose.

I get that we should always upgrade to a less worn item when possible. My questions is: Say I have a badly damaged/ruined assault vest, I want all the extra inventory slots it provides. Will items stored in the ruined clothing disappear simulating holes in pockets, and are items stored in ruined clothing more susceptible to damage and therefore you should only keep less valuable/common items in ruin clothing?

Items in ruined clothing are definitely more susceptible to damage.  You won't lose them in that they will not disappear, but more damage will eventually ruin them as well.

Try to keep your essentials in your backpack.  I like to keep ammo boxes (unopened ammo, not the 300 round cases) in my shirt/pants, since when those are ruined you can still open them for the pristine bullets inside.
