Extreme survival mode

Recommended Posts

Thinking about playing my next character in extreme survival mode (possibly recording it for youtube)...

The conditions I'm thinking of implementing:

1) Server must have 30+ population.

2) Hardcore (though at first I'll play with whichever of my characters dies first, giving me a fresh spawn).

3) No guns - only allowed melee weapons and crafted bow.

4) Only allowed to change pants and shirt once. Must craft backpack.

5) No vests, no headgear, no masks.

6) Allowed to eat and drink looted food/drink until light green energized and hydrated. Once that status is hit for the first time, only natural food (hunted meat, apples from orchards, fish, etc) and water (lakes, rain)

Added:

7) Obviously no glitching or gamma-tweaking.

8) Only wood fires, no gas fires.

Anyone else ever tried something like this? Got any suggestions for more rules?

This is of course a self-governed ruleset, which is why I might record it, if it proves fun to play.

Until they implement ways for the environment to kill you, that sounds pretty boring.

This.

If you want extreme survival mode, arm yourself however you want, join a full server and stay alive as long as you can in Berezino while switching buildings every thirty seconds.

That's currently the only way to make DayZ hard.

This sounds really really tough. If you give it a shot and can edit a documentary of it I'd watch, seems like it could be amusing enough. I don't think I'd have the motivation to try it though... even on a high pop server you should have success in avoiding human contact if you go to the right places.

Harder yes, but for some just survival is fun. For me at the moment the PvP is dull, only when survival itself becomes a real challenge will PvP encounters actually mean something :)

I agree with most of you... But yeah, PVP has gotten boring. It's still vaguely fun when running with a squad or whatnot, but really if I want that aspect of things, I can play battlefield or whatever.

Now I recognize the environment is still quite weak, aside from hunger and thirst. I still think it'll be a challenge to find enough arrows to survive, and have to gauge using them for food, or to defend against a player who might spot me. Also, getting skilled with the bow would be pretty cool.

kitchen knife son, nothing else for self defence, it opens cans, it kills players and animals an it butchers em too. Want to be hardcore badass survivor? kitchen knife all the way.

I aim not to use canned food though. If wood was a little easier to find (the logs, I mean, I know you can search for kindling), I'd totally sub out the axe.

I suppose I COULD be a vegetarian survivalist... A hunter of hunters... I only eat appes (And the occasional zucchino or orange I find)... and when I see someone kill an animal, I hunt them with my bow and blade... lol

This sounds pretty fun. I'd be down to join you on this survival journey/or try it myself. Although I do also agree with others, that it could get boring after the initial couple days of play. Without having the environment being a threat.

I'm always up for playing in groups. Start a "Mountain folk" sub-culture in DayZ ;)

I think lay on the evening time utilize just the head light and the electric lamp not utilize flare and utilize just bow shaft for chase the creature, no kill the pig on the grounds that is genuine unicorn of dayz and never shoot on a fellow in the event that he don't doing assault first on you

That is a great idea. I would like to see more explanation of why the player is behaving like this.

Is he/she not handy with guns? Or does not know how to operate one? Is the player alergic to some ingredients in canned food so he/she must hunt animals?

Please add some content so the story has more flavor! ;)

That would be awesome! If you would find a whole tribe of survivors eating only cows and worshipping rabbits for example! nice
