Irish. 4886 Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) So do you know how to spot server hoppers even when looking at the server list? Do you despise hoppers? Ok, then keep reading.. ;) If you see a server that looks like it has a hopper or are on a server that has a hopper join do this: Go to name change on main title screen. Change your player name to: IHuntHoppers, HoppersMustDie, HopperKiller, etc.. Join game. Now sit back and profit as the hoppers leave the game once they see you on the player list.. LOL :D (I did this last night to much success.. like 5 times. Within minutes the server hoppers leave the game, ROFL! Now if players stay in game, and never leave while you're there you can assume either 1: they dont care or 2: they are sitting in a bush, or at the top of the stairs, somewhere paranoid out of their minds) You can also take this to a REAL extent and while in game be camping a highly hopped location like Balota, or NWAF. randomspawn 215 Posted July 12, 2014 people read the names on a server list? when I server hop, i do it the right way. I catch a server right at the reset time, hop in while it's still empty and hit the high profile area my toon is parked at. Sometimes, it's just a firestation because I'm looking for a case, or maybe the NWAF where I can hit tent city or the control tower. Other times its the military base south of NWAF with the 3 sets of barracks. I don't bother reading the player list, and I am seldom on for longer than 5-10 min. If you manage to hunt me down in that amount of time, you are probably hacking anyway. When I am hunting and not hopping, I just try to pick a highly traveled area and do some damage. My player interaction count has dropped a lot since .46 went live. I am heading back to Berez to see if it is still lively now. This toon has been alive too long anyway. His boots are starting to smell funny.
Irish. 4886 Posted July 12, 2014 1. people read the names on a server list? 2. when I server hop, i do it the right way. 3. If you manage to hunt me down in that amount of time, you are probably hacking anyway. 4. When I am hunting and not hopping, 1. yes, when they are hopping and paranoid about people joining.. apparently they do 2. There just is no right way to hop ever.. unless you never. ;) 3. Or... Or.... I am hunting server hoppers that do EXACTLY what you do. No need to hack to get a kill doing that.. I join in at Veresnik Military Base.. I quickly run in, and see someone looting the barracks. Only guy on server and it just started.. I shoot him in the head. No hack needed for that. 4. "When I am hunting those that are hopping.." <-- there fixed ;)

I'm sure they're afraid of someone called IkillHoppers on a 250 squared KM map. Good hoppers go on when the server just resets and blaze through, or at least scope the place they're camping out before running around. Your method if flawed and you coincidentally saw people you thought to be hoppers leaving. 2. There just is no right way to hop ever.. unless you never. ;)Whilst loot doesn't respawn many people have no choice but to hop so they can get even the basic loot before going back to 40 man servers. 3. Okay. 1/10 flawed logic.
irl-calibre 744 Posted July 12, 2014 I met my demise in the NWAF to day on a low pop server, i'd been living in it - is that hopping? for about a week looking for crossbow bolt between it and Vybor depending on the length of play time, ran round the corner in a jail momentum carrying me up the stairs and blammmo - sweet dreams, just saw the stars and stripes in the moonlight as he opened up. thankfully he continued shooting my body I hope he destroyed my pristine mosin parts and all my trade stuff. Was a great run though, December 18th - July 12th. about three hundred hours in game in total i'd say.

Irish. 4886 Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) if you see someone on multiple servers in quick succession, guess who's ALSO server-hopping, and a hypocrite. Yep. I server hopped last night to test this and to hunt some hoppers. But I do not server hop for gear ever (and with the exception of last night I dont even hop to hunt players. One time affair. It was fun though.. making people scared in the middle of the night).. which I can tell some of you do by the way you reacted to such a benign post. UNLESS YOU HOP. ;) Yeah. I'm sure they're afraid of someone called IkillHoppers on a 250 squared KM map. Good hoppers go on when the server just resets and blaze through, or at least scope the place they're camping out before running around. Your method if flawed and you coincidentally saw people you thought to be hoppers leaving. 1/10 flawed logic. Did my post make you mad? ....Because you server hop? Why does that upset you? I kill server hoppers.. I tested this, if you read the post you would have known that, and it works. Server hoppers logic is easy to work around and they are some of the easiest targets to hunt in dayz.. you always know where to find them. So keep up that thought process, and anger. Ill keep killing server hopppers when Im in the right area at the right time.. and guess what if they are not a hopper and I kill them.. well, they were in a high pvp area to begin with and thats DayZ. Lesson learned. ;) Have a great morning, mmm'kay? Ive been "living" there too since about December 2012 in the mods.. I fell in love with the place and honestly no other place in dayz makes me feel at home. I can call out ranges at almost any position around NWAF from memory Ive been there so long.. love that place :) Edited July 12, 2014 by lrish
TiggyPooh 134 Posted July 12, 2014 I remember looking for the M4 heading up to Zelenogorsk after searching through Balota and Pavlova military bases. At Zeleno I didn't find one because it had already been looted, so I went into the town and logged off in a residential building.I have 5 servers on my favorite list, so I switched to another server and headed back to the Military Base and finally found the M4.After that I went through the jail building looking for some more interesting loot and while in the top room another guy comes storming in and shoots me in the leg.I emptied the whole 30 rnd mag into the guy.Now you can say I server hopped and maybe the guy I killed server hopped too. I would like to say I never eva server hop, but I would be lying.I've done it on occasion for reasons I can live with, like an empty looted area I spent an hour to get to, or when the server switches to night time and then mostly only on the servers in my favorite list.I also like to look for servers that have appealing names and low ping, like "Grumpy Old Gamers", but I avoid servers that advertises for "High Loot". At the end of the day, I am guilty of server hopping. :(

I just found your hypocrisy quite entertaining and I called you out on it. Yep. I sure do server hop! There's nothing to stop me except a little wait time between doing so. And there is nothing to encourage me not to. When loot respawns I will have no need to server hop and will remain on 40+ man servers to get the most out of the DayZ experience. But for now, why not server hop? Especially when I die on a full server and have no prospect of getting food, a bag and an SKS to get myself started. Remain on your self envisioned high horse if you will. I'll still be laughing at you.

I used to be a moderator for BMRF.me and there was a very disciplined community there that most did not believe in server hopping, combat logging or coast camping. Some of us, myself and several other mods and veterans would not log out if shot at.. even if the baby started crying in real life. Our thing would be just lie prone, walk away from PC and hope when we came back we were alive still.. Thats how we did it. Chivalry. But some here seem to think I am some sort of hypocrite for taking a piss at server hoppers last night.. thats fine. Trolls are easy to ignore when you have popcorn. :) The way I see it there are people that have a server they stick to and people that roam around looking for things.Things don't need to be the best loot, it can be anything really, even friendship and when you find it you might feel inclined to stay for a while. If that didn't happen then some of the more popular servers would have never become so popular... maybe. When tents and base building comes I am sure more people will have places they call home and roam around less.
Bigbadchuck 97 Posted July 12, 2014 Server hopping is just a means to an end. The end of the hopper. I love to sit in a building looking over the electro or or kamyshovo police stations. I just think it's funny to watch a person die while staring into the trunk of a police car or at some shelves. Scoped AKM is the best weapon for the job

Red_Ensign 990 Posted July 14, 2014 the op is just tired of OTHER hoppers getting to the cheese first. it's okay dude - you'll learn to hop smarter with time. also, is targeting specific players or camping a spot waiting to shoot a spawn in the back of the head REALLY less lame than hopping? anyway enjoy your spawncamping, if that's what's fun for you. karlkurtz32 59 Posted July 14, 2014 First, who sits and analyzes the player list. Second, I would never care what anyone's name is in the game. I've server hopped plenty of times and never even once cared about the other people in the server.
trev186 389 Posted July 14, 2014 I prefer to screw with them these ways:1. Go to barracks find rare items do not take them open all doora...most hoppers will leave if doors are open before checking.2. Or go to barracks take all rare items and then close all doors ;)3. Go to barracks damage rare items and leave ;)4. Hunt and kill them is always good too

I've server hopped plenty of times and never even once cared about the other people in the server.I always check server list. Are there squads ? That makes a big difference in who will be where. Also I check the list now and then to see who is still on. This tells me where people may be to som degree. For example if NWAF was clear it wont stay that way for longer than 1/2 hour. So anyone travelling there could arrive soon but if people page less likely they are coming.
darthbane67 92 Posted July 14, 2014 This is dumb & shows you to be a borderline sociopath it is very sad to see players taking the law into there own hands in this manner. How come the guy that you find looting an empty fresh restart server to be a server hopper that must die? I don't server hop but I am that guy looting the low pop server that just restarted, not multiple servers but just the one, and you killed me?!?! Someone who is breaking no game mechanics or doing anything wrong just looting in relative safety. I am not saying that I should be safe or that you cant just shoot me for no reason but I should at least be safe from this buffoonery.
