DayZ is far more optimized than you think tbh...

Recommended Posts

Why dus the online modus affect your FPS? As FPS shouldn't be related to your internet connection or anything like that  ?

Well, the client has to wait for a server response, if the server is ticking low fps and can't send data fast enough, the client will hold until it receives, this is what causes the drop.

Yup , The engine does not reward a high end PC.

Ive got an R9 290x

16g Ram

i7 4k Oc

Day z now getting 50FPS and in some cities 25FPS.

however Dayz standalone seems a lot more stable at 25 compared to A3 which leads me to believe it may be a server drop in FPS

but i totally agree with you the optimization in either game is way off.

And the worse thing the more content that goes into the standalone the worse the FPS will be

I have practically the same rig and both games run silky smooth, maxed out, while streaming.

Maybe some people are just really bad at keeping their computers "optimized".

There's no need to post on these forums either, but we all do. :)

The game is definitely in better shape than when it started, but it's about as optimized as tits on a fish.

Agreed its not optimized, and it might never get optimized, the way people think it should be, but it still doesnt change the fact that a lot of progress has been made so far, and updates is only becomming more and more regular :)

Really , so you get more than 30FPS in cities maxed out on a populated sever ?

prove it..................

And for the record i did say it still runs smooth its just low FPS. hence why i said it could be server side.

Arma 3 on the other had is god awful. and dont get me started on the A3 life servers.

DayZ is optimized in a way that if nothing happens near you you get a nice performance. In Arma if there's too much action on the other side of the map you get poor performance. The server still kills he performance and I thought the new server architecture would already prevent that but it seems to be that there's much more to do.

Big town fps for me can go around 20-25fps. But the game still looks bit smoother with low fps than in the mod. I'm not sure do I imagine that smoothness.

100% this

Oh yes, you two are guru's of PC optimalisation, having tons of FPS with max details and full hd or better resolution, while majority of other players are just n00bs unable to install a PC game?

Or maybe you consider 20-30 FPS in towns as silky smooth in which case we have nothing to talk about.

p.s. client optimalisation is badly needed and even Rocket is aware of this, it is just matter of time.

I started playing Arma3 again (haven't played since Alpha/Beta) and wow... Comparing to that game, DayZ is 100% optimized. I was actually surprised, having read that multiple improvements have been implemented in A3 but the FPS doesn't seem to have increased for me at all.

I have even played bit of DayZero recently and even on the most optimized mod of them all - i.e no grass land - I have been dropping frames like crazy.

Right now there aren't many zombies in DayZ but I think that even once those are added we can enjoy higher FPS than all of the other RV games.

If there was a single player DayZ Stand Alone version I am 100% confident everyone would get steady 60 FPS. Most of the FPS lag is due to the server and not you rig. For example, on Arma 3 I can get steady 60 fps maxed out in single-player, but online I get between 25-40.

BTW my specs aren't super top end:

i5 4670k @stock

GTX 770 2GB

4GB RAM

None of these games are install on SSD.

There's your problem. Obviously, clown.

No, what we are saying is some people go out and buy the biggest baddest PC but it doesn't matter if you can't keep your PC optimized.  The point is, people keep bitching about fps in a a game that is a an early access un-optimized alpha and are completely clueless as to why.

Fair enough, but some people will argue to the death, that the game runs silky smooth for them, which I don't think is truth, not in certain towns atleast.

And yes, it's alpha and the client optimalisation is yet to be done as was announced. I simply can't wait once those are in.

The problem with arma performance is that all scripts running on the server are calculated by your machine aswell, afaik

this was for example why all zombies from DayZ Mod disappear when you have spawned them and disconnected

the engine arma is running on is just a complete mess, just try playing Arma 3 wasteland on altis...

you will get one server synchronization about every second, making it hillarious to drive around in a car with some friends

what amazes me is that every full 30 people server i am on i get about double the frames when compared to being on a full 40 people server in DayZ...

Dude.

Check out your FPS meter when you're not connected to any server. In the menu.

It generally shows the same number as in the server.

Server performance has nothing. nothing to do with what FPS you see in game. Why should it? The server just tells you where the objects are. It has nothing to do with displaying stuff.

For some reason it does.

DayZ is weird for me. My home rig has an FX 8320 and an 7870 AMD card. I max most GPU intensive games on the market, but ArmA and DayZ don't get along with it very well. My second PC has an i5 2400 quad core and a GTX 650. Guess what runs it better? The second PC.

That REALLY suprised me, as the 8320 trumps the 2400 in EVERYTHING. I don't really know what the deal is. But I live with it.

Oh- another thing. The RV Engine hating is really unwarranted. I can max original A2 and have playable FPS (40-50), yet I can only squeeze 30-35 on the same settings in OA. Strange, huh? But the RV engine is good at so many things, like scale, ballistic simulation, even the texture and poly count isn't too shobby for something from 2009.

Besides, most people come to this game expecting sixty frames on max settings. In reality, most of these people have VERY mediocre rigs. Seriously, upgrade your computer.

You recognized him by his totally nonsensical gaming rig, didn't you? Only someone named MLG420blazeit would game on such a random combination of hardware.

What makes it a nonsensical rig?

I always thought that 32bit programs (and DayZ: SA is still 32bit, isn't it?) can only use 2 GB of your RAM.

So when I'm playing DayZ my open programs are:

* DayZ  =< 2 GB

* Windows 7 =< 1,5 GB RAM

* Teamspeak  + Steam ?? I don't know at the moment, but shouldn't be more than 500 MB

8GB would be better, but due to my experiences (playing on a 800€ notebook :| ) DayZ does not really depend on RAM. Your CPU is way more important...

If you have 4gb RAM like I did for so long, you'll see the difference when you get 8/12. This guy comparing performance on two games that are pretty high end due to optimisation issues is idiotic considering he only has 4gb of RAM in his PC.
