BIS gaining from this mod

So bis have been making alot of money since the release of this mod, arma2 has been a top seller on steam for over a month now. It was never this popular before should'nt rocket be getting some sort of cut for all of his hard work and breathing life into a game that didnt really take off?

If it was an EA Game, they would have sued him for all he got and will ever have, then murder and rape his family and pets and then sell the mod as it is now for $40 in octobre.

But Yes, by now, i would name 20 players who exclusively bought arma for the mod.

Unique player has risen to 330.000 i would love to see some numbers from april.

Anyone have figures of how many copies they have shifted since day z came out? I know that i, along with many others, just bought Arma 2 for day z.

Ive obviously gone on to find out that its a pretty buggy engine! I hope that Arma 3 fixes a lot of the issues that day z has encountered/unearthed.

developer? yes but so what this mod alone would have given bis a huge boost. should be getting more than an average cut of the earnings from it considering its taken bis over 9 months to release a new patch that has been in beta the whole time. That hasnt brought new players in if anything it scared players of like me. Im only back playing the game because of dayZ. Rocket has released more content and patches in the last 2 months than bis has in the last year......

Wrong. He was contracted by BIS for Arma 3 as a designer, but that's it.

read somewhere they have now switched his role to working on day-z full time (while bieng paid)

the more succeful the mod the more money they make, the better the mod is if they fully intergrate it into arma3 as speculated

EA would no doubt pay him alot more, but he'd probably end up making a street basket version of DayZ.

Rocket announced and wrote in stone from day one that, even though earning money from such an apparently new and loved idea, he walked into this intending a response from only the small Arma community but instead got another 10-20 thousand buying the game just for the mod. On assumptions and Guess-timates I'd say the additional sales would be easily into six digits, which is an insane boost.

With rumours flying around about how easy it would be to shift over the DayZ concept into the new third engine, along with BI granting their support for the mod, I would think the game will either become an expansion which ships with the game or a stand-alone expansion obviously based on the engine.

The engine itself, unlike popular belief, is an amazing piece of moldable work intended for the fantastic MilSim that Arma is. If you were to play the game you purchased for something other than an alpha Zombie game I think you would be surprised with the smoothness in comparison to the mod.. Obviously because Arma itself is a finished game and DayZ is a alpha mod, though people seem to underestimate the sheer awesomeness of the ArmA engine in regards to its fairly easy access and ability to adjust internally.

This will no doubt improve with Arma 3, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Alpha remains as such until the third game of the series is released, and then shifted over onto that parallel engine.

It really depends how much salt you are willing to take with the speculations.

You know that's the beauty of the modding community. I'm not saying rocket doesn't deserve all the money in the world. But that's precisely why BIS and many others put systems in place that allow for it. So people with a vision like rocket can give us something great. That's why it's here for. Little indie teams doing mods.

Think Counter-Strike! A privat team put it together and Valve took the mod and hired some of the original mod devs. There was a shitton amount of mods back in the day. Boah too many names to mention pop into my head.

I foresee DayZ to have a similar future like Natural Selection. Such a great mod for Half Life 1 that is being today developed as a stand alone game. And not unlike rocket they were and still are very much in touch with their community. Looking back you were actually able to follow how they put together their own company and kept you updated about even the smallest features with people donating for something that would come to fruit years later (this summer <3 <3 <3 )

To put into perspective how many copies they sold on steam, the BIS/valve contract of download codes ran out! They literally couldn't sell the game anymore because they were out of codes for a few days, so BIS and valve had to get a new contract going!!!

From what I have heared, Rocket is an old BIS dev of some sort, and after making this mod, BIS came to him and said, polish it, make it good and it'll be in three.

With the success of sales giving ARMA 2 a second life, I think it would only be smart that they include DAYZ in the core of the game. At the same time though, idk how many of the ppl who joined just for dayz would play the rest of arma 3, so it may be even more worth while for BIS to split arma 3 and dayz into two seperate games using the same engine. I'd buy both. I bought arma 2 about a year ago and played it pretty consistently, but then DayZ came along and it sucked me in. Haven't touched vanilla arma in a few weeks now.

well rocket threw around the idea of a stand alone DayZ the thread is still up i believe, its blatant the idea is likeable, I never miss out on hype and impulse buying, although i had played warfare a few times and that was my other driving force in buying my own copy of combined ops.

well i hope DayZ takes off just like CS did, it certainly has the potential, if that happens (if it hasn't already :P) then i'm quite sure rocket will get his effort rewarded.

even so, would you need much acknowledgement other than the fact that 300k ppl are enjoying something you made? monetary gain is good but that comes when the product is finished ofc. there probably are lots of ppl waiting for DayZ to enter a more stable phase or even until its released so that's something to look forward to.

Last time I read numbers, DayZ had made over 20% of the lifetime sales of Arma2.

Of course, that was about a month ago...
