Question about the certainty of this game

Recommended Posts

Well, before we got off topic (which i indicated earlier and was obviously not read) the original topic had nothing to do with EA.

Im done arguing about how much money they have and blah blah blah.

If anyone has anything else constructive to say, by all means go ahead.

Another constructive post!

You: "They already have their money, why do they bother to keep developing the game?"

2 reasons:

DayZ has BOOMED Bohemia Interactive beyond belief in Popularity and Sales.

Maybe those Normal People that are helping develop the game want a nice survival zombie game to play, just like us.

Maybe because they are NON-PROFIT? hahaha what do you think that means, bud?

And bohemia is NOT a non profit. Someone, somewhere is profiting immensely from this game right now. Which brings me back to my main point.

What is the point of finishing the game if the person with the idea has already made enough money to want to get out without all the hard work. The promise of a full game is there to keep people buying the alpha, but how do we know this will ever actually happen?

The right answer is we dont.

Yes, they are non-profit. I was illustrating the point you seem to be missing, Gross does not equal Net.

Of course we don't "know" but we, as adults, can make an educated estimation that based on historical dealing with BI they will continue to develop and support the game. See, I look at the work done on ARMAII and the fact that despite SA being out there is still work going on on the ARMAII DayZ Mod, to be evidence that they are likely to continue to support this game for a while. If they were nothing but greedy bastards they would have shut down the Mod and given us ONLY the SA for DayZ.

I've already explained this, but you like everyone else refuses to read back through the comments before posting.

I bought the game for 30 bucks because it is worth 30 bucks for me at its current stage. I've already logged ~200 hours and had a dam good time. Plus i try to be active on the forums and try to give suggestions (Which always fucking end in an argument because there is a bunch of 14 year olds playing this game now).

So... what exactly is your point? You have gotten $30 worth of enjoyment out of the game so apparently BI has done what it needed to do for you. Any development past this point is more or less gravy for you. Unless you are lying about thinking the game was worth the $30 investment to you. That is what you are implying by saying they should be further along.

On one side you say:

"I've gotten my money's worth."

On the other you say:

"They should be further along based on the money we gave them."

From the sound of your comments it seems the later is the more true statement, that you are not really as satisfied as you are trying to say you are and you need to just own up to that and say, "I want more!" The thing is, that if you do that we will be able to say, "Dean warned you not to buy into the game at this point if you can't deal with it in development." and you know your whole point will go up in smoke at that point.

Classic fanboy response. "They are trying their best"!

Lets put this back in perspective. SIXTY FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. you could buy your own fucking private country with that much money. There is NO excuse for not getting things done at this point. And don't use the "too many cooks ruin the soup because its not the same at all. There is a vision in place, and there are KNOWN problems with the game. I get that makes sense if you are talking about fine tuning things, but every cook knows how to make broth, just like every coder should know how to make a base for a game.

And we are definitely starting to get off topic lol

Slice this in about half for taxes and expenses, and divide it by the number of employees, then you can estimate how long they can keep a given person employed in that team.

And yes, too many cooks do ruin the soup, having worked with other people in the past on multimedia projects, it's all fine as long as you don't have overlaps in competences. The more coders you have the more difficult the source code become to read, the more outdated the documentations become, the less clear the writing style become, the more often you have to do reunions with the coders to discuss how to tackle this or that problem.

And that's just the code, it would be wonderful if every team member built a nice little brick that can be nested with all the other bricks perfectly, but that's not how it works, it's more like tetris board where instead of 12 shapes with 90° angles, you have 50 billion shapes and none of them fit euclidean geometry.

Of course. If you do not find interesting ways to explain how you are sick of the alpha progress, LIKE I SAID EARLIER, you will get the "IT ALPHA SHUT UP NOOB" response.

And you are missing the point.

When i bought this game, i was interested in helping a alpha game along, and being there for the ups and downs. Turns out, this game is fucking awesome. Didnt expect it to be this good for an alpha game.

I got my 30 dollars worth, but now, seeing this game finished is worth WAY more to me than the 30 dollars i spent.

Did i lose you again?

I think the trouble arose when BI had that big dispute, and people left and they kept making promises and never came through on them. Thats where this whole post stemmed out of. It seems like they have gotten more professional as time has gone on, but i think thats all due to the community of mature players who are giving good feedback

Plenty of companies do it just fine. Waah waah. I'm BI and ive grossed 60 Mil on an alpha game. Its really hard guise!

Im not impressed. If they ever want to get a foothold in the game market and have people take them seriously they need to get their shit together.

Don't forget the Studio they bought out.

Ok, so lets say so far (Since DECEMBER 2013) they've spent 3 Million dollars out of SIXTY.

What the fuck is your point?

And yet, you're the one whining that all of that "supposed" money was "supposed" to fix everything. Sorry sonny boy but that's not going to happen. You're trying to compare a 70-man INDIE (Indieindieindieindie) dev team to Electronic Arts....

Yup, buying out a new studio and hiring/paying a fuck ton more developers costs only three million dollars.

Oh yeah, and steam never took a cut of that.

Its clear they just have a taste for shotgunning 40's of Robitussin instead of coding. I mean, who wouldn't with, what do you think it is, sixty million?

Shit, if i had sixty million dollars lying around, i would say fuck coding too.

There is no evidence that BI is closing the door on DayZ SA so speculative "OMG what if they don't finish it?" is a lot like sitting around wondering what you would do if someone you are dating decides to break up with you some time in the future while they are cuddling on the couch with you watching a movie... pretty pointless.

Fail troll is fail.

As far as I know, the 70 people that work on DayZ is the original studio and the new studio combined.

New "Studio" Lets say 1 Millon dollars (counting electricity internet and the building so far)

Per person probably 40K a year they have like 140 people, right? 40000X140 = 5.6 Million dollars For a year, so lets just say 2 Million so far

Say stem takes a cut of like 1% on each game sold. Steam has gotten like 600,000 so far.

Yup. were still at like 5 Million, bud.

DayZ:

Studio #1 located in Prague, CZ

Studio #2 located in Bratislava, SK

Employees: 70 in all.  160 if you want to count Bohemia itself.

EA:

While we making up numbers, I will say with absolute certainty, that of these imaginary 60 million dollars, Rocket as pocketed 78% of the money.

One question that has been bugging me this entire time is why the hell do you have your power supply and operating system in your build specs? hahaha

Yet another person who has refused to read.

Read back through, bud. All this has already been addressed, you were just too lazy to read it.

Absolutely.

I also believe that out of the 60 million dollars or whatever was made up, that at least 25 million was spent directly on hookers and/or cocaine.
