At What Point Will You Say, "This Is Now DayZ"?

Recommended Posts

I played with my friend on 1.8.1. Dayz mod server one evening, for 3 or 4 hours. Spawn at Balota as usual, and making way to cherno. In multiple trips to fire stations, we found 3 M4s with some ammo, few pistols and Winchester. Rest of time was constant strugle with zombies, sickness, and much needed gear that was almost imposible to find. First no matches anywhere. When we found them, we went to cook some meat out of town. Then I broke hatchet while making firewood, and broke canteen while boiling water. Back to town to find ducktape, which was now imposible to find. I that time my friend died 3 times to zombies (3 hits and you are down to 3000 blood) and I was down to 1500 blood few times. When we finaly geared up, we went north but didnt get far. We found smoking smoking heli crash site in woods outside Mogilevka. There, zombies both from town and spawned at crash site killed one of us and we quit the evening.

When that feeling is in SA, then I can call it dayz!!

Zombies are dangerous! There are lots of them! Rare weapons! Gear breaks down and you have to repair it! Everything you eat or drink can kill you in slowly paifull way!

That is DayZ! Not Berezino team deathmatch!

- Tents

- vehicles

- more military weapons

- loot respawning

- zombies not going through walls/floors/fences

- many more zeds than now

So basically most of the stuff I expected when alpha got released after all that time it was under developement.

Well, I think we can agree on one thing... DayZ is not one thing, and anyone who says it is... is nuts.

So yeah, what stated inclusion on the roadmap and/or factor from the mod do you personally think will represent that crystallizing moment of the DayZ Alpha actually becoming DayZ?

Because for me, by virtue of being fairly early on in the testing process, I haven't felt that I'm playing anything distinctly DayZ-esque yet.

Now, it should be said that this isn't meant to ask "Under what criteria do you think DayZ will be complete?" Nor is it meant to ponder the transition from Alpha, to Beta, to Release. I'm talking about the experience. I'm merely curious as to that point in time at which the disparate inclusions of the Alpha actually coalesce into an experience that we can call "DayZ."

For me, it's tents and persistent storage. All I really did in the mod, was go around looting people's tents and it really defined my routine.

For most, I suspect the big factor will be coherent/working/decent zombies.

As a secondary factor, and a novel one at that, I suspect the survival mechanics will also help solidify a new DayZ experience.

It should also be noted, that none of us can really suppose an objective "this is what DayZ should be" mentality, hence why I wanted to ask people's opinions. Nor are any of us in a particular position of knowing what DayZ is from a holistic perspective, as we've always been testing an Alpha and therefore do not know what any given system is intended to be.

But yes, what systems/mechanics/inclusions will make you say "This is now DayZ"?

Me as well.

I will feel ready to call it the primary experience when they have persistent storage and vehicles.  That is really the two main things separating it from the MOD.  Of course the persistent storage includes things remaining fixed on servers too.

When people stop d*cking around Berezino and head inland.

Plus these 3 things:

1. fixed zombies

2. client optimalisation

3. zombies&loot respawn without server reset

Well the second day I had the Standalone, I was tied up and force-fed some rotten food by a bunch of pants-less people chanting some weeaboo song. I'm almost certain that when it it happened, I uttered the fated words. "This is it. This is DayZ".

In all seriousness though when there's:

-Barricading

-Persistent, non-respawning loot

-Tons of zombies that don't respawn in the area I just killed them in...

-Massive optimization

-Full release basically

I dunno minus all the bells and whistles mods like Epoch and Origins bought in (which I loved).  The core of the game for me is the suspense of interacting with random people. Which is prevalent.

Though I would like when I shoot someone in the face that they die, not turn around shoot me back and than decide to die.

When I can sneak around undetected from Zeds again.

Fix the de sync and ill be pleased.  All the added stuff later on is just a bonus.

Storage will be nice, but not crazy shit where you can have 50000 guns in a safe.  That doesn't make any sense.

I remember coming across my first Dayz video on youtube. I got a sudden chill for what it would be like to be in a zombie apocalypse. Played the game for the first time and snuck into Cherno to get med supplies all while sneaking around zombies because I was so afraid of them and had no idea how to deal with them...it was an amazing experience and I want it back!

Dayz SA will feel like Dayz when;

I'm struggling to stay alive

When I'm actually afraid of zombies

When I see another player and think I can use his help instead of just ending up in a firefight

When I can set up small camps across the map

Vehicles would be cool too but I really hope they make them super rare and the gas too.
