Weather in Chernarus

Recommended Posts

First off, I used the search function and could'nt find anything on this, perhaps I missed it.

Okay, so we all know that weather will eventually have a big impact on how we are to play the game. My question is- will the weather be synchronised across the hive? If it isn't, I fear that servers will empty out as soon as it starts raining, just like when it gets dark, because it will interfere with the Berezino death match. I would hate to see servers emptying at the first sign of an increase in the difficulty of survival. Thoughts?

Makes a lot of sense to me and I guess it should stop server hoping during night time, etc..

I have no idea, and thats part of the reason I made this post.

There is so much that could be done with the weather from having wind noises to creating granular levels of conditions (ie: rains in the West of the map and you can "follow" that weather front so that it rains in the East maybe 20 minutes later) to dramatic climactic changes in temperature (day warm, night cold - and resulting affects because of it).

I don't understand why I still get the fully soaked message and status when I am wearing a pristine green raincoat!

Yes, there is already an implementation.

Yes, it is already there.

I can't tell you why, but it's noticeable that when weather was brought in, all clothes items had a 'dampness indicator' (insert your own joke here), yet that has now been replaced by the overall one for the character. Personally I preferred it when it was specific to the clothing. After all if it's raining and you are wearing a raincoat you wouldn't maybe expect your other clothing to get wet however it would make a difference to what footwear you were wearing. After all you run about in the rain, or through grass in trainers you should get wet feet while with military boots and wellies you shouldn't.

I do wonder how much the dampness will affect your character other than just health. After all if you are carrying matches in the pocket of a hoodie in the rain you could expect them to get damp, and thus not work, while having them within a jacket pocket (whether a raincoat, puffa or bikers jacket you could would expect maybe not).

This also leaves the issue of the backpack. You wouldn't expect a raincoat to cover your backpack, but you certainly get rain ponchos that will cover not only yourself but your backpack. If these existed they'd probably need to be in a different slot to your upper torso clothing as with a poncho you wouldn't expect any pockets although you would expect it to keep everything you wear (apart from your footwear) dry. Would a rain poncho also have a hood? Probably.

Well, eventually there won't be a public hive from what I understand, so switching servers will result in you having to start from scratch anyway

If I'm not mistaken, that already happens. At least it seems to, perhaps it's just desync.
