Smartsham 21 Posted June 16, 2014 I searched the forum and dev notes and havent seen anything on fixing the random ambient zombie and player sounds. Is there any action taken on this yet or is it on a list somewhere?

DemonGroover 8836 Posted June 16, 2014 I'd say sounds will be one of the last things they work on. Getting everything in and working seems the best bet before adding the sound effects. Could be wrong though. And you can kill rabbits in experimental cant you?

rickyriot 1009 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) The title of this thread is wrong, it should read "all noise is broken". While at a push you should be able to detect the (rough) source of a sound like a gunshot in general the Alpha is extremely poor with the sound. I've not checked the devs and their skillsets but I am sure that Rocket spoke about someone dedicated at looking into this months ago (long before the staff expansion) yet very little has changed. It's a real shame as if DayZ has any pretensions in being a true survival/strategy game then it must, absolutely must, implement a proper set of sounds and expand that to support surround sound. Ideally I want to have the ability to navigate almost blindfold around a town based on the noises of the shuffling and grunting zombies, the footsteps and door creaks of the opposition players and the ambient real world noises of the wind sea and wildlife all combine to make an audible landscape as rich as the visual one, Edited June 16, 2014 by ricp

agentneo 337 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Its weird because I also searched and can't find anything But i think there has been a massive thread about this before.I think it would be cool if ambient 'random' sounds played if another player came near you (such as gate creaking, bird squawking and others) and could be developed in the future with visual small flocks of birds scattering when a gun is shot. Also would be interested to know what the development team have planned in terms of ambient music and the soundtrack, if any is planned, or if any producers have any sort of music they think would work nicely. I often play ambient background music whilst playing to create atmosphere Edited June 16, 2014 by AgentNe0

jukaga 271 Posted June 17, 2014 I'm so tired of the phantom zombie sounds, truncated pop can opening sounds, ammo splitting out of nowhere. Everytime those happen, I go into paranoia mode for a while, get tired of it and start discounting sounds as mere glitches. Then you run into a player who was actually making them. That's strange, as I'm able to pinpoint the direction of gunfire and generally find the shooter through the in game sounds.
inphared 33 Posted June 17, 2014 It's been said a million times by Dean & co., sounds are one of the last things they will be working on, once they get all the MAJOR stuff implemented & working properly. Is this annoying? Yes. Does it make sense to do it like this? Yes.

Could be wrong though. And you can kill rabbits in experimental cant you?in my view getting sounds working is more important that anything else that is currently not working properly. while i think this is already the best pc game ever, sure lag and desync are annoying, and wall glitching is horrible, but sound? its almost as bad as not being able to visually see whats going on on the screen, to me. That's strange, as I'm able to pinpoint the direction of gunfire and generally find the shooter through the in game sounds. the gun sound is bugged, you are not always hearing gun sounds from correct directions, distances, often you are not hearing any sound at all. its the same for everyone Edited June 17, 2014 by qww
rickyriot 1009 Posted June 17, 2014 That's strange, as I'm able to pinpoint the direction of gunfire and generally find the shooter through the in game sounds. It's far from impossible, but in comparison to other games they are definitely poor. In general you rely more on experience and logic to find those shooting at you as the sounds simply are not precise enough to pinpoint the shooter.
