Chernarus really needs a river.

Recommended Posts

I'm talking a real river, like the Moskva or Elbe, not the tiny streams we have now.

A river that could be a massive landmark, dividing the landmass in two, providing us with a waterway and choke points (bridges). The river could have old mills, perhaps canals connecting tributaries, old sluices, it could have a northern city built around it.

We could craft canoes and paddles out of wood and go downstream or trudge our way upstream.

There could be tributaries and forks, and deep canopies of trees to hide under, or hide canoes under while exploring dry land.

Guba, but I don't think that exists in the SA. Think it was replaced with svetlojarsk. I don't know if pobeda dam, or any of the other landmarks went, because I haven't traveled that far in standalone.

If they expanded the map, yes. There are two large rivers that run throughout Chernarus, the Svetlaya and the Burnaya river basins. The Svetlaya runs the length of the Western border with Takistan and through the capital Novigrad (Chernogorsk is NOT the capital), and the Burnaya runs up North through Kirovograd into Russia (Kirovograd is a factory town which makes all the weapons for the Chernarussian Army, confirmed via CR-75 weapon description). There is also a river running through Miroslavl and stopping somewhere in the center of Chernarus. Miroslavl is only 5km away from Kamenka (confirmed via roadsign in the center of town, check it out). And ANOTHER small river running north of Guba & Sveltojarsk, south of the Black Mountains which divide the border with Russia.

Ivan Buchta (leader of the map design team, original godfather of Chernarus), had stated in numerous interviews that HIS intentions (not the teams, but he's still the most experienced map designer they have) is to expand the rest of the map towards the undesigned bits.  This fits the lore, and prevents me from going into a fit of fanboy rage, but that doesn't matter.

I'm still VERY inclined to disagree with anyone who wants to fuck up the lore.

This map is amazing, but at the same time, look at the scale of this map.

I don't imagine we will get it in our lifetime if they're going to expand Chernarus to that size. I'd rather they just carved a riverbed in the current map, because that could actually be done in a decent time frame.

He meant separate maps that you could travel to through separate servers and border crossing. Besides, Altis is 30x30km2, and 900km2 if you count all the water. Make all that inland, and you could easily fill up the majority of central Chernarus, including the rivers. Separate maps for the coastal areas and major towns/landmarks (Lake Beloe & Belozersk, Novigrad, Miroslavl, and the Black mountains). Hell, Bystrica and Bukovina are actually part of Chernarus (well, according to Bohemia and the campaign for ACR. Still a shitty DLC).

It doesn't NEED to be a single continuous map.

And one old bridge, massive PvP for bandits there and survivors need some boats to cross the river. I think that's a great idea !

Sarcasm noted, however in real life bandits would group together and terrorize 'choke points' which travelers need to use to reach key locations. This would simply encourage players to adopt new tactics, such as using a canoe, or swimming across. And while I don't understand bandit players, I can appreciate how they somewhat emulate how certain people would act in a real life apocalypse. (There are just a few too many of them...)

That's not the problem. The problem is the development time that would be required to make more landmass that is the size of this map, and the quality+detail level of Chernarus.

ACR is, by far, regarded as the worst DLC in ArmA history by the entire community. Shitty texturing, outdated equipment/shit not used by ACR, and the ironic fact that it's the armed forces of Bohemias native country.

tl;dr It's a really bad DLC that I want to forget...

I wasn't too fond of the British Armed Forces DLC. The map they added with it is incredibly small and essentially just a tiny Takistan/Zargabad. However, the British were something people wanted to be a part of the main game for a while and the weapon selection was okay;

The L85, L86, & L115, and the L110A2 and L7A2 GPMG were new to OA but had no difference from the M249 & M240 from ArmA 2, and the AS50 was available in the PMC DLC. They also did not include a Browning Hi-Power or Glock 17 with it, so they were just stuck using 1911s for some reason. They added two new ground vehicles (the Jackal & FV-432) and four helicopters, two of which were just re-config'd versions of the already existing CH-47 and AH-64. I've had fun playing with the addon but I generally consider it to be lackluster compared to what they could have had.

The PMC DLC is, by far, the best. Almost all of the weapons were unique to the game (not including the XM8s they reused from A2, but still), the SUVs with miniguns were terrific, and the helicopters provided a different functional role than most of the others (Instead of being your standard; CAS with miniguns). It had less content overall but it was more unique and detailed.

ACR was meh, though they finally added sidearms and a good number of primary weapons., The semi-trucks with guns were a really nice addition, and the air support in the addon was well done (Bohemia really loves their L-109s).

But regardless, most people bought combined operations or just downloaded the free versions of the DLCs, so complaining about it is sort of ironic. There are plenty of addons that have equivalent stuff, and it's not like you're being asked to go play a different game (unlike some people here who like to think that; "Go play something else" is a valid argument)

Helo there

yes the ACR wasnt all that we hoped, but ive had plenty of fun with it (albeit only recently and for a cut price)

Regardless, we are going off track with the DLC banter.

River is what its all about and I used Cherno 1.5/Bystrika to show it can be kinda done...ish.

The long bridge on Namalsk springs to mind here. Been killed a few times trying to cross it in vehicles or on foot.
