How do you group up? (tips/triks needed)

Recommended Posts

Hello there I'm looking for ways to find each-other and group up. How do you do it? tips and tricks are appreciated. (note, no dreaming about adding things to the game, just ways in the current experimental build)

I have friends that aren't good at orienting them self, or cant see the difference between the 3 airfields, or cant tell if they are in gorka or in vybor. They don't know the map, and they don't know the names of anything except from the 3 biggest cities. How do you manage to find them, or guide them to a location you meet up. The players i play with have different orientation skills. Some have a built in compass in their head, some can only find their way using the map-marker (in the mod).

Do you come to their location? do you navigate them to yours? do you agree on a city to meet in? What if you are 3 or 5 players?

Most of the players that navigate Chernarus have been playing since the mod. In the mod it allowed you to see where you spawned. Couple that with months of playing, you can pretty much navigate standalone off memory (in standalone it doesn't tell you where you spawn, or at least I think). So, its going to be hard for your friends to group up because they don't know where they're going. I recommend using this map:

http://dayzdb.com/map#3.068.086

Its very useful and will help. As for meeting up, if we're fresh spawns we'll either gather outside northern Cherno or Elektro wants we loot. If we're already geared up and scattered across the map, we'll find a general location to meet up at.

I currently play with three others, and the way we do it is spawn in the game and our priority is to determine where we are. We do this by locating signs and translating them using the map JMocks posted, or by using landmarks. Then we gather what we need and decide where to meet, preferably inland to avoid conflict with other players and off we go. Most of the time we will meet inside of a church.

TBH I wouldn't play with DayZ DB. You will literally ruin the experience for your friends. It's x10 more fun to wander around Chernarus looking for eachother, describing each village trying to figure out where the hell the other person is.

The knowledge of the map comes with time. The more you guys play it together the more you'll learn.

And then you never meet up. It's much more fun with friends, and most people cannot play forever.

That's my problem, we get bored and log off before finding each-other. We use the online map! yes ofc but its still hard when  you don't have a compass. Where do you find compass/binoculars consistent? its so great having tools to help navigate!!

Oh yeah I know. That's why I'd recommend killing yourself until you spawn together. Little immersion breaking, but better than using the dayzdb map imo

Welcome to trying to survive.  The difference with DayZ compared to the majority of games out there is there is no hand holding.  At least not yet.

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The clouds move westish to eastish. Look everywhere, compasses are pretty common

I've only played SA so I use dayzdb map. After a while you will learn it. If your buddies don't know it, they need to learn it. Best way is to get on skype or some voip to communicate. If you don't have a compass, use wind direction and, or sun movement. And run....RUN!!

Yeah It's slightly immersion breaking, but I would add that if your playing with friends who are new to the game this is an essential tool if they ever want to learn the map and group up.

If you are playing alone I could see maybe not using it, but for newbies I think that map makes grouping up all the more fun and gives them a working knowledge of what they are looking for so they wont have to use it later on...

It all just takes getting used to. When you start playing a lot you will pick up locations of things and associate them with the names of cities or towns. Like Cherno can be easily identified by the large industrial area. Elektro by sniper hill, or the fire station at the northeast corner of the city.

Meh, I could justify it as having a map on you. But the killing yourself is not a good strategy with all the spawns. Maybe if they had less, but they don't, and I don't want them to.

Learn the map, learn landmark hills/valleys/ponds/rock formations/fields/tree lines/etc. Outside of that, the DayZdb map is a good one, although I wish they had a topographical version like the one they had for the mod.

As far as playing without a compass, stick to roads. A road will always lead somewhere (except for the ones that don't), and look for geographical landmarks. Consult the map and look at curves in the road, loot spots (barns, houses, gas stations, etc.). It will take some time to figure everything out, but eventually you'll get good enough to navigate the areas you're familiar with by memory and visual indicators, so you don't even need a compass anymore.

dayzdb map all the way, eventually you and your friends will start to recognize the spawn points or little random indicators that give you a clue to where you are.

My dad plays with me and a friend sometimes and usually I just ask him to explain where he is and to keep exploring until he can find a city sign or the ocean. If he finds the ocean I tell him to keep the water to his right and run (hes either moving east along southern coast, or hes running north along eastern coast). We will move the other direction until we find him.

Since oddball spawn points do happen, having your friends kill themselves until they get a coastal or recognizable spawn point isnt that bad of an idea.

I would definately recommend you (assuming you are the most experienced player) do the traveling to them. It could be frustrating to your less experienced friends if they have to try to travel long distances and not know the map or areas. Let them explore the city they spawned at and enjoy looting/surviving.

i do it this way:

tell my friend to find a road sign and spell it out to me.

i then tell them to hide in a two story or in the treeline.

when i get there i check out the town and without giving myself away, lead my friend to me.

Great suggestions! makes my life easier! retti and pacpac made most sense so far.

Dayz is so much more fun traveling with others. We usually travel the map. I don't like to hang close to the spawns.

I will also make a camp, or base. that way everyone is used to travel from spawn to that camp. for now its just a fireplace at some ruins.

In the mod, Zub castle (just south of Vshnoye) was my group's usual meeting spot. It was off of the coast, easy to see, and not too far away from the mod's southern coast spawns.

In the SA, towns like dubrovka, Polana, gorka, and miglioevka(?) make good rendezvous points for fresh spawns. With spawns shifting north in experimental, miglioevka and Polana may be replaced with chernya Polana and krasnostav.

In the mod we usually had one guy in the air at all times, so anyone spawning in just called it on ts3 and waited on coast. This meant that new players that didnt know the map could be with us in action. there was no need to learn the map if you never drove the helicopter or the vehicle we used to do missions or assault clans. now that those players join in standalone, there's not a helicopter patrolling the coast picking up clan members =P

the helicopter also picked up players when they was done at a mission, or if their car broke down. or dropping of at a new mission, or at one of our bases. really made it so there was no waiting time. also they could spot enemies activity. having a helicopter in the air is a great addition to any dayz clan.

1. Find other players in the game.

2. Don't shoot them.

3. If they don't shoot you, ask if they want to team up.  :o
