I fucking love this gun. It's my favorite weapon in game right now. It's just so beastly. Recoil is really manageable, the dispersion is almost non-existent other than anything over 150 meters. It sounds really good, but the sound effect could be a bit beefier. The iron sights are really nice, very easy for target acquisition and it's always full auto.

All in all the AKM was a really good addition to the game, easily beats the M4 in my honest opinion. (FIX THE M4! :P )

What are your thoughts about it?

Since it's latest addition to the arsenal, it might get overglorified.

But yes, I love me some AKM, I would also love AK-74 in 5,45x39mm caliber.

The model is done, no idea why it hasn't been implemented yet. I have a sneaking suspicion that most, if not all the models of the weapons are finished, but they're only releasing them in increments to make it seem like content.  Which is a buzzkill if true.

Based on what Torchia dude wrote, they just don't want to introduce 5,45x39mm caliber that classic AK-74 uses.

Maybe because not so many other weapons would use it.

He said, they could put AK74 in, but it would be in 7,62x39mm caliber, which would make many people (me included) mad.

I kinda can't understand that logic though, few more calibers would not bloat loot tables too much and would be good for diversity.

I fear that every rifle will be either 7,62x51 or 7,62x39 plus nato 5,56x45mm that M4 uses.

They admitted to this early on, but I think they've passed the point by now.  Many of the early items/guns etc were things already all but finished that they were putting in.  But I think since patching has slowed a bit, most of the new stuff is legitimately new.

I think you can find the tweet by Chris Torchia if you look back far enough on it.

As to the AKM, sounds pretty cool and I'm looking forward to it.  I probably won't use it much myself, as I'm not a big fan of AKs aesthetically but I look forward to fighting against people with it, and more variety than everyone just carrying a mosin or m4 :D

I was prying around up north trying to find one last night as I had all the attachments, but no luck. I was skulking around Vybor when I came across a fellow survivor being chased by a hungry one... We sorted her out and then proceeded to have some small talk. To my delight, I got offered an akm!

Turns out it was one of our very own forum goers! Hetstaine! Cheers dude  :D

After Het logged off (it was getting late), I ran around for a bit firing off shots at some hungry ones before I called it a night.

I really like the feel of the akm, and it looks beast! 100% agree with you Daemonkid.

The only thing I noticed, is the sway on the akm seemed to lag more than say, the sks. It could just be me, as I haven't played too much since they changed the mouse input/weapon sway. I also note, I have been actively not seeking out firearms on exp, as I wanted to test the features. So my experience is limited.

Ammo for the AKM needs to be balanced as it uses the same as the SKS.
In experimental I have the AKM and a 75 round drum, I am now searching everywhere for the ammo to fit without much success.

I suspect the reason why the AKM is not in Stable is the loot tables that need to adjusted.

I know. It frustrates the fucking hell out of me. I don't understand their logic. BLOAT THE LOOT TABLES. That way I actively have to SEARCH for stuff. I want different calibers for different weapons. I want the weapon that I use to be dictated by what I ammo I can find. The streamlining of the game to and weapon calibers and not adding weapons because "They're functionally the same" pisses me off. All guns ARE FUNCTIONALLY THE SAME. THEY TAKE BULLETS, AND SEND THE PROJECTILE OUT THE BARREL. I really don't understand this logic and if I ever met these guys in game I would rant at them so hard. Their design decisions are getting really absurd. Gah, I can't talk about this, frustrates me.

Really? My buddy has 4 drum mags, FULL. I have 5 30 round mags FULL. I also have 5 boxes of SKS ammo in my pack, while my buddy has 6.

Heavier weapon. Part of the dexterity system, it feels really nice; the sway tbh.

Actually, they said it will probably be 5.56x45mm, not 7.62x39mm. Regardless, Chris was simply talking in the immediate term; they don't want to add a huge variety of calibers and stuff until loot is centralized and they have enough content to justify it.

There are 7.62x39mm variants of almost every 5.45x39mm AK-74 type weapon. Sure, you miss out on a quite a few, but it's not necessary. Also, I doubt we'll be shut out of a variety of ammo for now, just until later on.

They only want to prioritize, and making 5.45 is rather pointless since it's almost exclusively used by AK-74 variants, and a few other rifles/LMGs.

That makes sense dude! Thanks  :)

I must clarify, I didn't mean it was bad in any way. I rather liked it too. It was just different to the sks, which is the only gun I have picked up since testing.

It's not exactly difficult to code in a new caliber. It's not pointless, because it adds a select ammo type to be added to the lootspawn, thus causing any other ammo type to spawn in its place.

So, instead of just finding say 7.62 or 7.62x39 you have this new caliber that also spawns. This bloats the loot-tables requiring players to actively search for the proper ammunition type for their gun. Regardless of it only being used in select rifles, that's good because it's something you may want to hold onto if your looking for that ammo, or to throw away or leave if you do not need it. More calibers means a bloated loot tables a bloated loot table means we have to go actively looking instead of just the generic ammunition types we have now.

Anyways, i'm getting off topic.

Akm is a good addition. Now, for more AK variants and more traditional weapons. (The long horn makes me lol)

I agree with you - I'd rather have 5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm, 7.62x51mm, and 7.62x54mmR instead of just the middle three, but it's semi-understandable at the current game stage. If it were up to me, I'd tell them to just make the 5.45 ammo since the AK-74M model looks (essentially) completed. However, 5.45x39mm has relatively similar ballistics to 5.56x45mm, and 7.62x54mmR is pretty darn close to 7.62x51mm (The difference is there.)

I do know that the devs don't want to over complicate the amount of ammunition, but they may simply be waiting until they can centralize the loot spawns, so for example, the massive surplus of .357 rounds we have now will be controlled. That, and it's probably better that they expand on the ammunition they already have in-game before they go along adding new weapons of new types. We've only got 1 .357 gun and they could probably take .45 and 9x19mm a little further before going about with new ammo types.

The Longhorn's a cool gun, just as much as any other. Ironically enough, it's less out of place than the other pistols; the 1911 is some super expensive tactical Kimber variant that you tend to only see in the United States, the CR75 is based off of a new prototype CZ-75 SHADOW, the FNX-45 is an incredibly new handgun which just came out two years ago, the magnum is the hyper expensive Colt Python, and the Amphibian is an internally suppressed pistol (Very few of which exist, and most are extremely expensive). The P1 is probably the most reasonable pistol, but the LongHorn isn't terrible either, because it's reasonably affordable and/or common compared to the other pistols.

-snip-

My proposal for weapon that takes .357 would be the Marlin 1894C Decent lever action rifle.

On an unrelated note. I want to see this ingame.

Which should not be the case in any respect.

I believe now that the M4A1 *DONT call it just an M4 cause your pretty much just referring it to the M4 Carbine than* is a chopper only rare drop i believe it needs to be a better overall weapon in terms of accuracy and dispersion to make up for lack of power the AKM brings.

Hopefully this happens within the next couple of patches otherwise you cant really justify the rareness of the weapon period.

I like the weapon.

But the problem is that now everyone will throw away all other weapons.

If M4 before was pretty common among most players, AKM will be much more, as it is reliable on SKS bullets and you can find magazines also in police stations.

So expect on next months all players with an AKM. No more shotguns, sks, .22 and blazer.

A survival zombie game with all players equipped better than James Bond.

Meh, I'd rather it be a Winchester or Uberti model 1873 chambered in .357.  IMO the marlins are kind of crap quality, and the 1894s chambered in .357 or .44 tend to have stove piping issues compared to the 1873s.

Not really so odd since the AK is one of the most prolific weapons in the world these days.  If I didn't know better i'd say AK's breed like rabbits.
