Thoughts on the AKM?

Recommended Posts

It's big, apparently fucking heavy, and sways a lot. Its accuracy is pretty bad but it killed my targets really easily. The scope being 2D is bloody amazing, so I think I'll keep it.

Have only owned the AKM with 75 rnd drum mag and PSO scope. The stock and hand guard comes off, so there might be tacticool attachments soon. Oh yeah, and the PSO scope is boxed like a camera. It also doesn't accept bipods.

On the PSO

Or are those not mildots? Not very familiar with Eastern bloc weapons/terminology.

No those are chevrons.

Mildots are a very specific western Ranging reticle.

Both work in similar ways they allow you to estimate the distance to something by knowing the known size of the object.

I haven't done much testing with it, haven't been able to get hold of one with a mag for long, however I see it, for the moment, quickly becoming the go to for players who are on the move.

I'm the medic for my friends and if I find someone in need I'm always quick to offer a hand if I can, as such this leaves me vulnerable to traps and ambushes if my escorts aren't on to watch over me, as such it's nice to have a POWERFUL auto/semi weapon (used to use the SKS, cause the M4 simply took too many rounds). The sights are nice and clear for closer engagements, despite not having a fiber optic sight, the 75 round mag makes it good for prolonged use without the need for carrying 80 mags, and the scope makes it good for scanning for snipers, single shot mode, as with the M4, seems to increase the accuracy for some reason, once the weapons get overhauled we will have to reevaluate each gun, but for now, it's a good choice for both medium and close encounters.

As for power, as a fresh spawn a guy was running around killing freshies in an orange raincoat screaming about having the new rifle, he popped one guy in the dome, turned, and to my surprise shot me in the leg, took about half my health I'd say, maybe a bit more (I just stood still knowing I couldn't beat him with his moto helmet on, and took note of how much damage it did) second shot, dead, so for full health? maybe 5 rounds at most, that's pretty decent in my eyes, though the SKS can still take 1-2 shots to kill, so it's a toss up which you prefer, high accuracy, or high fire rate.

7.62x39mm can OHKO badly armored targets. Not big news.

Should be the same damage as the SKS as they're the same round, right?

Maybe you'll be able to get a different handguard that allows the bipod attachment eventually.

Except it didn't OHKO, I was still standing, the only thing that happened was I broke my leg and my screen got blurry, i didn't go down at all till the second shot, then it just outright killed me with absolutely no gear whatsoever.

It OHKOs on the torso area if it doesn't have much clothing/is bad condition. Your saving grace was getting shot in the legs.

Ill still take the M4A1 over the AKM. I really do think there going to go back in latter and make it a better weapon. Its just a matter of when. And there going to have to make it good to justify rarity now anyways.

Sounds good atleast the damage is good.

Would be more interested in seeing if the ballistics are done right and they somehow simulate and visually show how devastating the round is to cover.

Currently when you hit an object there is no visual market on the breached side of the wall that demonstrates that a bullet is penetrating.

If you empty the 75 round magazine, you get three stacks of 20 and one stack of 15.

Wat.

Is 3x20+15 not 75?

Sounds like they didn't make the same mistake they did with the m4 of letting ammo stacks go higher than they're intended, just because you stuck them in a mag.

Damn shame too, since the ammo is so hard to manage.

I think it's a nice way to keep things in check, and also provides more value to magazines themselves.  Currently, with the m4 as an example, you only really need 2 60 round mags.  One in the gun, one to swap out.  Reloading the one you swap out with piles of ammo, since you could have more stacks of ammo in the slots than the mag.

It places more value on mags, and adds some more thought into inventory management.

Hopefully the fact it doesn't work on the akm means they fixed it for m4s as well.  Can anyone confirm?

Sks has a longer barrel, netting it close to 100 ft/lbs more energy at the muzzle...  This is about a 6-7% increase compared to the akm.

Haven't had a chance to get the AKM. How much space do magazines take up?

Thats all we need is a giant Hello Kitty running around with an AKM drum in hand......

And regular mags are 1x2, probably?

If I could get a Hello Kitty sticker on my bright blue UN helmet, I'd be the first to do so. Then I could roll with my AK to heart's content.

Ah, thank you. :D

Personally I find the ranging method of PSO better, but that might be me.

Just watch out, if you can FOV, ranging gets screwed same as in mod :-(.
