Sticks on forest floor?

So i follow most of the dev team (tweets, bogs, occasional reddit) and one of the things they talked about for this update was sticks spawning in the forests, and ive been looking and looking and i cant find any, even running around in 3rd person looking at the ground from directly atop. So do they spawn? is there a technique? i cant imagine how difficult it must be to find one in 1st person mode with all the fauna. 

just to be clear ive run from new town to nwaf to polana to krasnostaf and back to devils castle.

You get kindling (sticks) from chopping small trees. You can also turn tree logs from larger trees into 3X sticks.

Yea, I haven't seen any spawn on the floor either. Gotten them from chopping the big bushes.

It's the ones that are at about ankle or knee level. If you just walk around stopping every once and a while at a shrub on the ground, looking at it, and mashing "F" you should find it fairly quickly.

I first figured it out by the Rify just pushing F at some grass underneath a tree.

looking down on forest ground ( best use 1. person) will give you mousewheel action "search for kindling" ...press F  ...after a while you will get a message....

Go in first person in a forest, look at the ground, and select the action "Search for Kindling"...

Simplest way I have found? Go to a forest, walk through the forest (don't run) while continually scrolling the mouse wheel. As the process of gathering kindling is an action it will show up at the top left of the screen ("Search for kindling"). Of course you would need to trigger the action for it to start but it at least gives you an idea of where you can search. Simply retrace your steps until you have the action available and perform the search like you would for any other action.

 

The same method can also be used for searching for apples although at least with apples you can see the relevant trees you need to search.
