bordinio 1 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) In relation to my earlier issue, I've noticed that there's a problem with grabbing things which were left by other players for examples items, bags etc. ( Dropped on the ground )I don't know if this is a bug or something but loot sometimes dissapear on sight. ( It happens also to animals ) Comfrey leaves are a bit bugged because last times I can collect em even though I got herb box. ( targeting problem ) Edited June 22, 2014 by Bordinio

( It happens also to animals ) Comfrey leaves are a bit bugged because last times I can collect em even though I got herb box. ( targeting problem ) The plant system is a little buggy if you right click to zoom in on the plants you should be given the option to gather. This is a known issue Everything we do on pickup/repair/medical is done based on the cursor target but when using 3rd person it becomes a different story altogether . The issue we have do we keep adding more systems to keep checking whats happening slowing everything down more and more or do we stop roll back a few checks try to keep the speed but have issues. As always ill pass it onto the team see if we can find solutions.
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Are any other Official Hive server operators having problems connecting to the Hive Database?? kichilron 8550 Posted June 22, 2014 Yes, the Hive is currently experiencing problems, but we're trying to resolve the issue.
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 22, 2014 Thank you, Kichilron! I'll leave my server down until I see a status update or I'll just try later to see if it connects to the database.
r4z0r49 4761 Posted June 22, 2014 You would be best just swapping to a private db. We have no control over the current hive.
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) You would be best just swapping to a private db. We have no control over the current hive. Does anyone have the MySQL script out for initializing a database for 1.8.1? If so, I already have a MySQL server running for the other flavors of DayZ I run. EDIT: Nevermind. I see Pwnoz0r has it out. Edited June 23, 2014 by Skydive
r4z0r49 4761 Posted June 23, 2014 It comes with the server package.
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 23, 2014 It comes with the server package. I have everything in place already. I just have to add another instance and run the sql script to set up the database for 1.8.1. It will probably have to wait till later this week though. I'm upgrading my box I run ArmA 2 & ArmA 3 servers on this week. Please tell me the official hive is not being hosted though HFB.
TG ! Jimmy 216 Posted June 23, 2014 .. Please tell me the official hive is not being hosted though HFB. I could tell you it isn't... but I'd be lying.

Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 23, 2014 I could tell you it isn't... but I'd be lying. That would explain it's demise. Recovering the data will probably be deemed too much of a headache at this point and not worth the effort. This happened before when the server provider for the official hive folded up. BC_Hawke 276 Posted June 23, 2014 So, is this the end of vanilla DayZ mod as we know it? I know admins can switch over to a private db, but it seemed like servers that were on the official hive were the only ones left that bore some semblance to the original DayZ game, and the persistence of humanity and gear over the life of the game from server to server is something that really drew me to the game. Damn shame considering 1.8.1 finally brought DayZ mod up to the amazing experience that it currently is. Depressing, really. It's such a great game now and nobody's playing it. :( I'll never understand why people are more drawn to GTA: Chernarus...er, *ahem* Overpoch than regular DayZ. (This isn't meant to place any blame or complain that something was done wrong, but rather just lamenting the state of vanilla DayZ.)
kichilron 8550 Posted June 23, 2014 GTA: Chernarus...er, *ahem* Overpoch than regular DayZ. It's got to do with their age and that they've never played DayZ before. Can't blame the players, that went straight to that. The only annoying part are the people that come from the mod and claim Epoch is the better mod, but that's a different topic. We've not given up on the mod and even without the Hive we'd still go on.
BC_Hawke 276 Posted June 23, 2014 they've never played DayZ before.True. This is the worst part about the world of DayZ mod. A vast majority of people that jumped in anytime in the last year and a half never actually played DayZ. I was playing the game for a few weeks before I realized most of the servers I was joining were watered down versions of the game. We've not given up on the mod and even without the Hive we'd still go on. Glad to hear it. I'd love to see renewed interest in the vanilla mod.
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 23, 2014 We've not given up on the mod and even without the Hive we'd still go on. Has there been any word that someone at Bohemia is trying to deal with recovering / moving the Official Hive db server?
r4z0r49 4761 Posted June 23, 2014 Has there been any word that someone at Bohemia is trying to deal with recovering / moving the Official Hive db server? Nope its pretty normal to go a few dayz without a response
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 23, 2014 Nope its pretty normal to go a few dayz without a response I hope for Bohemia's sake, they are hosting the SA db server in-house.

TG ! Jimmy 216 Posted June 24, 2014 The hive is up for now. There were some ideas flying around the other day during the downtime. I think one potentially viable option would be for admin who run vanilla servers to band together. This could potentially mean creating a private DB that is shared among the few remaining vanilla servers (a new hive). Of course, this would be one hell of an undertaking--and even though there aren't all that many vanilla servers left it would be a substantial database (in terms of bandwidth). If it comes down to it, we could rehash this idea. But it's something I'd consider. I have unlimited web space, and unlimited bandwidth at my disposal. It could potentially be a road we could go down. There likely aren't more than a half dozen of us left anyway. Might be worth the investment in time. Cheers,Jimmy
geryon 180 Posted June 24, 2014 I for one like this idea Jimmy. Like wise I've got an unlimited bandwidth server. For about an hour I had two servers connected to a private hive. It definitely reduces our risk. Something definitely we should continue discussing. By the way I've almost moved my stuff from HFB over to another provider. Out before the collapse :-)
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 24, 2014 I was thinking the same thing as Jimmy. I am in the process of moving, so it will be a little hard for me to provide infrastructure or servers right now, but maybe once I get settled in my new place I can help make this happen. TG ! Jimmy 216 Posted June 24, 2014 No rush. Just ideas for the future! It wouldn't be altogether difficult to throw together a small "new hive" for a few of us to join into--we'd just have to centralize a few things. A certain amount of uniformity would be a must, and agreeing upon certain things. But really, it wouldn't be much to worry about. Cheers,Jimmy
Skydive (DayZ) 71 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) What would you like in terms of servers? Two servers clustered for redundancy and HA or just a single box? Most any scenario is easily achieved if we choose to run this in my VMware cloud or it could be run on bare metal as well. Really just depends on the IOPS we need for the DB.
