OnePersian 0 Posted May 18, 2014 Not to sure if I should be posting this here but, here goes. Whenever I load up the servers joining DayZ, the server list shows about 20-30 servers. All that are showing are below 100 ping (usually in green). All this time it never occurred to me that there are WAY more servers out there that I just couldn't see. When I move my max ping up to 350 in the server settings (default is 100), 100+ servers show up. But the problem with these servers are that they are averaging around 200-350 ping. Is it possible to play online while having ping this high? Will I be at a disadvantage if I get into a gunfight? I mostly join servers that are below 100, just to be safe and for optimal gameplay. I live in Hawaii so the internet out here isn't the best, I get around 15mb download and 1mb upload. I read somewhere that those numbers don't make a difference regarding ping. Does anyone have any experience with this? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Whats much more important then you max speed is your stability and conection quality. Excessive ping fluctuations and packet loss can both lead to desynch experienced in game. as to ping? ive never had a problem playing on anything 250ms or below, however know that if you do have ping fluctuations many servers have a ping limit and you may get kicked at a ver bad time automaticly due to ping. since a copy of your character stays behind for a few second (to prevent combat logging) this could result in you being dead when you re-connect. I am the only one that uses the internet. But I use wireless connection through my laptop, would I have better connection if it was wired? My router is about 5 feet away from my desk, I just don't have an ethernet cord of that length.
kichilron 8550 Posted May 18, 2014 Yes, you can play on high ping servers, as there is no kick for pings yet - atleast I have never seen anyone being kicked for it. But it's getting less and less enjoyable, up to a point where it's horrid to play above 200 ping. If you do have servers that are below 100 in your list, do play them - as everything else is just a struggle.
DropBearChick 1217 Posted May 18, 2014 My friend got kicked for a ping of 987,870 once
soulfirez 901 Posted May 18, 2014 I have seen( and play on it as one of my normal servers) a server that lists it kicks for pings higher than 250. Dont know if they actually do or not it is merely the server message you get when you log in (perhaps to scare away high ping players. Really if possible stick to the lowest ping you can get with the population level on the server you can get ,is it playable beyond 200 sure but it aint great throw in being wireless connected to boot and i can feel some rage in a CQB shoot out happening. It can ruin your experience and it can even effect those inside your network bubble.( but this usually only happens with extreme pings) the game even sort of tells you your quality level below 100 its green above 100 its yellow and not sure at what point it lists pings as red ..
