the future of dayz

Recommended Posts

this is not a rant post or a why this game sucks post or any other type of post that can appear negative or unhelpful. this is a general discussion of one thing.. the future mods of dayz SA. lets face it.. maybe in a year or so.. modding will be able to be utilized.. and i can tell you right now that epoch, orgins, and all those mods are already in the working for dayz SA. this "vanilla dayz" we have now in my opinion will come to an abrupt end once these mods come to surface. now, i know there are those who dont want all that frou frou stuff in thier game.. they just want the barebones and immersion that comes with it... but you know once all the youtubers play the mods.. people will switch and so on to private hives and servers with all those fancy gadgets... later there will be servers where you pay to get starting gear and pay for admin rights.. and well if you want that.. by all means go get it... so to sum this up.. will mods, when they hit dayz SA, change what we know about it, like the dayz mod. (even though you cant comparte them, just an example of what mods due to a game) again, this is not a rant just wondering what "our" future gaming experince will become from other view points. :)

I hope mods get held off as long as poss. However when they do come, aren't most of those all private hives?

The main pub hive should always be vanilla, and everything that enticed players  about it should keep it populated. However I do fear the "vanilla" scene will die out quickly in the wake of mods :(

Well this and everything will get muddles so badly your not going to be able to tell which is a true vanilla game anymore like with the mods.

The closest to an enjoyable vanilla game play i get is ether Origins or 2017.

the future is bright and shiny as long as we´re busy trolling the forums instead of playing the game.

Assuming mod support will ever be implemented.

I'm not saying it won't but i tend to consider things for what they are, there is currently no mod support in DayZ. And the devs can still change their mind.

I look forward to the Epoch Standalone. Maybe a better trading interface?

Well...since Epoch and 2017  for Arma III is coming, i dont think they just gonna drop all the work they are doing to make the same mods for SA...

Still...i hope we getsome cool maps and other features...

yeah in fact 2017 is strictly mutants for the most part from what i understand.

Yeah, they completely moved away from the zombie thing. To be honest, what they have now is far creepier and will probably lend itself to being a better experience overall (not that it will be better than DayZ, but that it will have a different atmosphere and won't be just a DayZ clone).

I can't imagine why the teams behind Epoch or 2017 would create the mods for SA. Their goals seem to be to have a total conversion mod for Arma 3 specifically, not to just tweak the DayZ experience. That being said, I also don't see why SA won't have mod support. That appears to be a pretty big thing that drives BI, allowing for people to mod their games. Why would they shut off that ability on their biggest game? I understand not allowing it for alpha or beta release, but I would think the final release would allow modding.

Honest to god, I still think adding mod support is a bad idea at this point (or any point in the foreseeable future).

It hemorrhaged players away from the vanilla mod, drew down support for it (see "Epoch/BP/Overwatch has X, why doesn't the mod have X?"), and pushed players into experiences which were profoundly NOT DayZ.

I respect modding, and recognize that DayZ wouldn't exist without it. But it can't go on like it did with the mod.

..::  infinite diversity in infinite combinations ::..

i welcome mods. and private hives. i think it is good for the game and for the community.

pewpew-faction can have their mod, disneyland faction can have their mod, griefers can have their mod.. makes the vanilla experience more pleasant with all those people gone ;)

who in their right mind would want to mod SA...lol

the only appeal would be the map...

arma 3 is far better for modding and look what people have done already in comparison to SA with a full payed dev team haha

look @ the top 2 mods for a3...

I just want to clarify for those that think zombies are NOT creepy if you ever saw one in real life ripping and biting and tearing ppl apart you'd be singing a whole different tune. Not everyone would be so badass and hard core about a walking corpse. In fact im sure it would unnerve the most hard core veteran of war.

The whole Dayz clone thing is irrelevant as mutants have been just as over done if not more than zombies have. within the 90s era in every single media you can think of.

Ugh, can't say I'm too excited about mod support, don't know if that's just me though.

I just don't really know what they'd include with modding, I hope there's a way to stick to a vanilla server, a private hive vanilla server even.

To me Epoch doesn't feel like DayZ, I think it's mainly the NPC traders, just seems waaaay off. Base building is cute but if that wasn't included Epoch would be pretty shit.

I didn't realize base building was something considered cute?

So we can expect lots of pink right?

I'm saying that base building in Epoch is 'cute' as people make all kinds of 'castles' around the map. Hell, kind of similar to wasteland.

EDIT: Nice picture by the way, reminds me of Disney Land. *cough* *cough* *wink* *wink*

It would be the most non noticable base ever! XD

But then you'll have to worry about the Westboro Babtist Church clans camping your house.

Uhh... Why can't it? It kind of will. Plus, Rocket already confirmed this as an upcoming feature.

And I don't think said upcoming feature is a good idea, given what it ended up doing to the vanilla mod.

I'm saying that the only thing that kept vanilla alive so long was the ability to modify it. If you look at server counts, Epoch has three thousand-some while vanilla only has one thousand some. Without Epoch, BP and the like, it would probably be dead by now. However, to each his own. You enjoy playing on vanilla. I'm fine with that, because I can play Epoch.

Future not good there already deleting and locking post concerning hacking. They got hacked and lost source code. Hacking has been steadly increasing and will rule the servers once vehicles are put in. Hopefully I'm wrong not likely. But when locking and deleting starts its never a good sign lol. They can't get it done simple.
