Why do YOU prefer SA over the mod?

Recommended Posts

Haven't played any of the mods since SA released. Been considering returning to the mod as the alpha is beginning to feel.... bare at its current stage of development.

While the SA has the foundations to outshine the mod, I think the mods available currently have more to offer. Can anyone with experience with "both" games give me some advice?

The mod has more to offer,

yet the Standalone will have more in-depth mechanics (look at the M4 for example)

and overall i think the standalone will be far better optimized once it's finished

The Standalone needs people testing it and giving feedback for faster development, so i play it and give my feedback

thats what an alpha is for

I love the mod for the more things you can do like vehicles, bases and the rest. I went back to it today to be reminded that my ping is about 50 or 100 higher than in SA. Mind you I do play on a 3G vodem stick. :(

SA has better graphics even in its alpha state and the new towns are 100 times better than the mod towns already.

I prefer SA over the Mod purely because the mod is incredibly clunky on my machine (probably due to the amount of assets loaded from arma2:OA that aren't used) whereas SA runs quite well for me, that is pretty much the only thing (although I do miss the extra elements from the mod)

I don't.

DayZ mod and all the variations might be getting boring after countless of hours but I still have Breaking Point for Arma 3.

Why would anyone choose current SA over mods? It has very little content, more bugs, very little working mechanics. So what is left? Looking for new clothes?

I use to like standalone because of the amount of heroes and friendlies. I also liked having more bandits, because the mod had few of each. By "bandits" I mean people who hold others up. The bandits that you probably refer to are KOSers. In my opinion, bandits and KOSers are very different. The thing is though, recently it seems to all be KOSers in standalone now. So now that the standalone is the same thing as the mod but with less in it, I prefer the mod.

Personally im stuck in limbo at the moment...

I play the mod for 30mins.....im pining for the cloths system, food drink system and extra buildings of the SA

So I swap over.....30 mins in im pining for tents, vehicles, weapons and loot tat spwans in proper places. Not to mention zombies that can actually be a threat when looting.

So I usually end up on the A2/A3 editor messing round with zombie scripts lol

A few more things into the SA like respawning loot, zombie AI and base building....then il never look back. For now though id recommend the mod. Once you got your personal gear, toolbelt ect, its not so much a case of "where should I go to shoot peeps".....its more "what should I do next". Theres actually options beyond PvP :)

I'm with some others who said I don't like the SA over the mod.  I actually never played the mod until after I go the SA but other then graphics the SA is pretty boring after you get geared up.  I'm not complaining about it, I know that lots more is coming to that game and it's alpha and all that, I'm just answering the question.

I think the SA has great potential. i wouldn't say its better in its current state. I really hope they find a balance. those who played the mod feel more mil gear has a place and Op vehicles should be OP. if they arent theres utterly no reason to fix them, hoard them, or fight over them which imho is a fundemental part of DayZ. On th flip side i can appreciate what the pure survivialists want. i just hpe the devs can produce something that keeps both the 'Arma II with zombies' crowd which made dayZ the succes it is, as well as the newer crowd both happy. it's a very fine line to walk and a little tiney bit to one side or the other will completely ruin it for the other side.

This is always an issue when a title evolves from a previous one, from a mod, or is a 'reboot'. any creative liberties taken or fundamental shift in gameplay will be met with a back-lash from veteran fans of that title/series.

I think the current state of fire arms is horrendous in the SA and they are if anything a disgrace and should be more like the A2 ones. nothing will change my opinion on that. thier choices for base weapons stats if anything are purely to add value to thier crappy atachments system. i say throw the whole system away and port guns + ballistics direct from A2. done.

There is enough feedback, not enough development.

At the moment the MOD (EPOCH) is a far and away the better game experience.

Its hard to call SA a game right now because it simply has zero content in it.  I think berry picking, spray paint, iv-bags, and the craft-able backpack are the only things your character can do/use to actually interact with the world.  I may have missed a few but the point there there isnt fuck all to do in SA once you are geared up.

SA did do some things right though... the inventory system, controls, buildings, and lighting/graphics are better than the MOD.  Its just going to depend on what content they add and how long it takes.

At the current pace I am sure by 2018 SA will be a cool game if it can survive all the other games coming out that already seem way more polished

SA has much more content, you can enter all buildings, more beautiful animations and better graphics. Suck it up, MOD fanboys.

The SA looks better and gave me more shivers the the Mod ever did, Don't know why but i get more paranoid in the SA then in the Mod.

The generational gap is showing in this thread.

Generation A.D.D. thinks shiny good looking graphics is all it takes to make a good game. LOL

Old farts like me (38) actually need something to do rather than something to look at.

because mod became too much unrealistic for me. Spawning bicycles really? vehicles everywhere and guns

the most unrealism for me is at epoch. Epoch is just for fun like rust

An interesting question here is.....What Mod??

When I reference the mod I think of vanilla. I hated epoch, overwatch and so on for basically making it into a RPG zombie version of CTI. Adding junk like economy and traders, then letting us establish these completely unrealistic bases. To me in a survival game a tent should be your only thing to call home. A tent with some wire fence round it is a "fortified base" to me, there was never any need to go so ott

Some people probs think vanilla was boring, and that things like epoch gave it more depth. SA has a fine line to walk to keep everyone happy :)

I would be one of those people who think vanilla was boring... however I acknowledge that a lot of EPOCH servers go way too far with 50 tanks spawning in Cherno and fully geared custom loadout spawns.

I personally like the player economy (even in Mad Max there was Thunderdome)  I think it is one of the things that can organically create player interaction/co-op which I prefer over forced interaction like spawning everyone in B-Town.

Tbh, the reason I like the SA.

* Is due the massive community playing the game

* Knocking out a player with punches in very satisfying, something I wish I had in "ArmA 3 Atlis Life"

Have any of you tried dayz aftermath? That was the mod I was puttering around on when SA hit steam. It was the most fun I had in the year I was playing various mods.

Modular, craftable weapons, base building, ability to break into bases (no more keys and such none sense. Sledgehammers) and an implemented prison and additional military/quarantine installations. Only problem is the small community that is left. We need more bodies!!!
