New animated DayZ intro. Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

So I've been trying to come up with a new intro for my vids. I didn't want to re-use arneoog's popular "DayZ intro" since everyone seems to be using it these days. Not that it's a bad thing, I just like to be different :D. Anyways what do you guys think of what I've made so far? I tried to go for a rustic Chernarus backcountry look. There will probably be different variations but this is the 1st version...

Looking good!

Maybe for the future you could add a ruined city in the background? Like an overgrown, ruined Chernogorsk.

Thanks guys! Yea I have a few ideas I want to do for using one with a building environment. I want to do a dilapidated, crumbling building with volumetric fog, dust and particle effects. I have some ideas I just need to put it together one day lol. Thanks again guys, beans for you!

I don't like the font, but the concept is cool. Part of the problem is the specific DayZ font/logo has been entrenched into my mind, so seeing something else is odd. Even without that, though, the y going into an underline just looks silly to me.

Adding a desolate, crumbling city in the background would be pretty sweet. I agree with that idea. :)

Really good work. About the perfect length for an intro too.

Yea I don't like the line under the "Y" either but I had to do something because the Y looked more like a "V" with the overgrown grass and it really looked weird like "DavZ" :D. I guess if my real name was Dave I would be golden heh!! I also didn't want the text floating in air so that's my easiest way to solve the issue. I know what you're saying about the DayZ font being engrained in your brain. It's what I kept fighting against when using a font as I kept wanting to go towards a more DayZ "traditional' font, if there ever was such a thing lol. I suppose I could find a different font out there but glad you like the concept and thanks for the CC!

Just my two cents:  At 0:09 when the camera stops moving, it looks a bit awkward.  May I suggest haviong the camera always moving, as if someone is holding it?

Right after 0:09 is where my transition will typically go from intro to gameplay video so you likely won't have the same feeling of it sitting there for so long ;). I always like to keep a few seconds of the last frame still to give me some 'wiggle room' when it comes time to editing the final video with transitions and such.

I was going to go all out and have the grass "lay over" as my camera moves through but this causes a TON of computational resources to simulate as each blade or stem would physially interact with each other but thus drives my final render time into the multiple days area!! I have a different method I'm going to try for the grass which should free up some reasources and add to the atmosphere. We'll see how it goes on version 2 :)

Typo doesn't look so good. Idea is nice though. If you made the DayZ look more authentic, choose better font then it would be really cool.
