Some RP items and 'minigames'

Recommended Posts

There's a new game on Steam called "Tabletop Simulator" that has the perfect approach, DayZ-wise, IMHO.

Basically there should be no rules, no winning/losing, that's all up to players to determine. You can just move pieces around on a board, or hold cards in your hand/put them on the table. It's up to you and the other players to decide how to regulate turns, if people are following the rules, who is the winner/loser, if someone cheated by moving the pieces or pulling a card out of their sleeve when you weren't looking, to grab the prizes in the middle when you think you won, or even to flip the board/table over and pull out a gun if you think you were wronged. Everything, down to whether the game is fair or not, should be completely player-driven.

A freeform model would also allow players to make up their own versions/rules for any minigame for which the set/pieces get added as content. For example, chess variants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_variant

This is completely perfect, I had no idea such a game existed. If dayz bought the rights to use this in game it would be incredible

Mini games? Have people been drinking Old Spice & Harpic cocktails again?

When I read 'minigames', I got scared, but what you suggested seems like it would help immersion. Making two people play a life or death game of chess would be awesome.

Get high, get drunk,... what for?

An eye-candy effect you would try to see for fun & curiosity, and only once (just like many other games)... that does not worth resources and time wasted to work on it (don't even mention extra animations work some would expect).

Minigames, that's a different story.

Rock, paper, scisor & cards (poker or else) sound good way to interact -and play- with other players.

But as we already know KoS would derail this feature. :(

*nods* Assassin's creed is a great example of ambient minigames. They just add a little more depth to the world and they're well crafted.
I certainly think there will come a time when players are stuck holed up in a barricaded building in a storm waiting for a hunting party to return, idling away the time playing cards or chess by gas light. It would really add to the world and the feel of the game, so yes- beans for you sir.

While we're on the subject of mini games, I want to play russian roulette!

People would find ways to use it for fun.  How about having 2 people given a half a bottle of vodka each then make them have a wild west style shootout.  Winner gets 20 bullets.

im down for chess and cards, but i woudlnt want to see them as a mini game, no way, idf want to see them in first person as normal.

i also made a topichere a few weeks back,  for a pool table, which i think would be amazing, in  a bar far from coast. but i realise that it would probably never happen, although being able to interact in something like this, in first person (not different screen mini game, not rules implemented by game, but by players) would be a real move forward for first person gaming in general

Yer describing them as 'minigames' may have been foolish, I agree that you should be able to look around at your surroundings while playing. A few large bars with pool tables would be pretty great.
