Gassed Out Areas.

So I was thinking:

 

What if the gasmask and the respirator were given a purpose?

 

Obviously if the land was being taken by zombies the government would have tried something drastic like say.... forms of aggressive gas? Think about it, there could be small pockets, or zones of gas that go away at certain times of the day, there could be a part of Chernarus COMPLETELY covered in deadly gas. In these zones where there is deadly gas, there would be some form of rare loot.

 

For example:

 

In a zone on the north side of Chernarus, there could be an entire MASSIVE area filled with gas, and it would be terribly hard to see through, and there would be no life inside, you would need a gas mask and protective gear to get through, and you would have a limited time to get in and out. There could be TONS of rare, untouched loot inside the zone that you could find nowhere else, and would be exclusive to this zone. Attached to this concept, there could be many types of gas masks with many types of different filters, some lasting longer than others.

 

Now, for this rare loot zone, you would need many things to even get in, think of it as a place all people strive to explore.

 

1.) Gas mask of some kind.

 

2.) A few good filters.

 

3.) HAZMAT Gear. (Gas burns the skin)

 

4.) Other protective coverings.

 

5.) A light source of some kind or thermal goggles to see through the smoke.

 

After you have all those, you can walk into the zone. After you walk into the zone, you have 20 minutes before you have to leave, and put new filters on. The gas would be blinding, making stuff very hard to find, and many other people strive to enter this place, so you'll see many people inside the zone, probably hostile.

 

I just thought of this, and I thought it might be neat. Please share your ideas for this concept.

but yeah useless gas mask doesnt need to be in game. maybe they do have plans for it, hope so

I like this idea, I enjoyed the way gas masks were used in Metro, maybe an slight integration of the same style.

It's actually white, just scrolling fast downwards makes it look pink for whatever reason. It blends in with the white in the edit screen aswell.

 

Also your comment had nearly nothing to do with the idea. Come back when you have something to contribute, or something to say about it. Thaaaaaaaanks. :D

 

And yeah, I sort of started thinking about gas masks as they were used in metro and STALKER, as I have played both. I was sorta talking about this as a sort of merge of the two gameplay elements.

Well I apologize for not being able to read white/ dim pink text on a white background.

Anyway, Ice wanted somethin like this for awhile. Particularly in military/ high loot areas (airfields, elecktro, ect) as a last ditch effort to.control the infection.

First question that comes to mind - why would the gas linger? It might look a bit odd coming across an area that has a constant cloud of gas around it. Something like radiation seems to make more sense, but makes the gas mask theme a bit redundant. Not against the idea at all though.

Gas can contaminate the atmosphere, some of them at least.

 

Some gases like VX gas which is insanely lethal actually lingers for a long time.

 

And some gases have been engineered to linger for YEARS.

 

Oh, and Owen? Sorry, I figured most people used the default theme. So that was my mistake. Sorry. (Who is Ice?)

i like to think that the respirators were handed out to the civilians in the initial days of the infection/virus and the military was issued the gasmasks. like they thought it might be spread via air so they handed out the masks as precaution.

Great idea but I thought I can change it a bit. Useless gas masks are really boring. And gas lingering is stupid cuz DayZ is set I remember 15 years after the infection. So I thought It can be implemented to underground structures.

 

Now Dean mentioned they have ideas of underground structures but not before the release.

 

I don't know what kind of ideas they have but I have some;

 

underground bunkers, labs, vaults (maybe similar to fallout vaults), ammunition depots, maybe one nukeleer missile silo/base.

 

These underground structures can have secret entrences deep in the woods or in mountains. (To add a purpose going in to woods and also it helps attracting players out of the cities. It also makes it super fun trying to find and explore these structures)

 

Some or all of it can have deadly gas in them. Thus adding a purpose to the gas masks.  :D

Hidden and fairly well preserved underground facilities filled with deadly gas, extremely hard to see, and it would be filled with all the rarest loot in the game. Experimental army weapons and armor? lol.

 

I'm gonna go for ALL of it filled with gas.

Perhaps even prototype "teargas" style grenades that would allow you to use the gas elsewhere to keep zombies and ill-equipped randoms away while looting? Aside from being poison to inhale it couls also be corosive or caustic which sould esplain its effect on zombies as well? exploing these extreme pimp gear areas would basily required weeks or months of searching out uber-rare chmical protection gear?

Mukavva, from what eceryone here says its days/weeks after dayzero. And if it was 15 years, why are we washing up on the shore? Castaway simulator pro? XD

When you enter a location with the gas, or nearing one, you could get a text warning such as:

"You smell a musty and bitter smell in the air."

or

"The air smells tart and burns your lungs as you inhale.

 

Just ideas.

I agree.

 

The messages are a plus.

 

As for gear you would find after days of looting for the right gear to go in, I'm going to say maybe some type of prototype weapons and armor? Maybe an armor using the liquid that turns solid after being hit with blunt force?
